Abstract

As its classical counterpart, quantum Gaussian noise is an important noise model in quantum information theory. The study of capacity of quantum Gaussian channel plays an important role in quantum communications. Based on the definition of quantum Gaussian state, the entropy of quantum Gaussian state, and Holevo bound theorem, the classical capacity of quantum Gaussian channel is given at first in the paper, where the classical capacity is defined as the capacity when only classical messages are transmitted through the quantum channel. Then, the classical capacities of quantum multiple access Gaussian channels are deduced according to the classical capacity theorem of multiple access quantum channels. For simplicity and generality,a multiple access quantum channel with two senders and one receiver is used for computation. The results can be generalized to the quantum channel with n senders and one receiver.

Shengmei Zhao

Research on capacity of noisy multiple access quantum channels is the basis of the quantum multi-user communications.According to the classical-quantum entanglement generation theorem and the quantum-quantum entanglement generation theorem, the capacity regions, comprised classical-quantum region and quantum-quantum region, and noisy multiple access quantum channels are deduced in this paper. Then, the theorem is applied to the computation of quantum-quantum capacity region of the multiple access phase-flip channel, and the result The result verifies the theorem, and the quantum-quantum capacity region turns out to be a pentagonal region. For simplicity and generality,we consider the multiple access quantum channels with two senders and one receiver.

Capacity of the quantum multiple access depolarizing channel

Shengmei Zhao

The depolarizing channel is one of the basic quantum channels. For simplicity and generality, quantum channels with two senders and one receiver are considered to discuss the capacity of the quantum depolarizing channel. Two different capacity regions,classical-quantum region and quantum-quantum re- gion, are deduced in theory for the quantum depolarizing channels with two senders and one receiver. The first region is comprised of the rates at which it is achievable for one sender to transmit classical information, while the other to send quantum information. The other region consists of the rates at which each sender sends quantum information. At the same time, the performance of the quantum multiple access depolarizing channel is analyzed.

Hybrid Quantum Noise Model to Compute Gaussian Quantum Channel Capacity

Mouli Chakraborty, Anshu Mukherjee, Avishek Nag +1 more

Quantum information processing leverages the principles of quantum mechanics, utilizing qubits, to improve computational and communicative tasks. In this realm, the quantum channel’s capacity is pivotal in determining the efficiency and accuracy of quantum information handling, with its performance being significantly influenced by channel noise. Our study aims to establish a holistic hybrid quantum noise model to determine the quantum channel capacity. In this paper, we formulated a mathematical expression for this capacity and conducted simulations for both Gaussian and non-Gaussian inputs. A hybrid noise model is constructed by convolution of Poisson-distributed quantum noise with classical additive white Gaussian noise. We characterized the quantum-classical noise and the received signal using Gaussian Mixture Models. The maximum amount of quantum information that can be reliably transmitted over a quantum channel (per use of the channel) is determined by its capacity, and entropy and related quantities like mutual information play a role in calculating this capacity. Our formulation of quantum channel capacity is derived from the mutual information shared between the transmitter and receiver, encompassing the entropies of the signals. The quantum channel presents a higher capacity-to-signal-to-noise ratio for Gaussian inputs than non-Gaussian ones.

Gaussian classical capacity of Gaussian quantum channels

Evgueni Karpov, Joachim Schäfer, Oleg V. Pilyavets +2 more

The classical capacity of quantum channels is the tight upper bound for the transmission rate of classical information. This is a quantum counterpart of the foundational notion of the channel capacity introduced by Shannon. Bosonic Gaussian quantum channels provide a good model for optical communications. In order to properly define the classical capacity for these quantum systems, an energy constraint at the channel input is necessary, as in the classical case. A further restriction to Gaussian input ensembles defines the Gaussian (classical) capacity, which can be studied analytically. It also provides a lower bound on the classical capacity and moreover, it is conjectured to coincide with the classical capacity. Therefore, the Gaussian capacity is a useful and important notion in quantum information theory. Recently, we have shown that the study of both the classical and Gaussian capacity of an arbitrary single mode Gaussian quantum channel can be reduced to the study of a particular fiducial channel. In this work we consider the Gaussian capacity of the fiducial channel, discuss its additivity and analyze its dependence on the channel parameters. In addition, we extend previously obtained results on the optimal channel environment to the single mode fiducial channel. In particular, we show that the optimal channel environment for the lossy, amplification, and phase conjugating channels is given by a pure quantum state if its energy is constrained.

Capacity theorems for quantum multiple-access channels: classical-quantum and quantum-quantum capacity regions

Jon Yard, Patrick M. Hayden, Igor Devetak

We consider quantum channels with two senders and one receiver. For an arbitrary such channel, we give multiletter characterizations of two different two-dimensional capacity regions. The first region comprises the rates at which it is possible for one sender to send classical information, while the other sends quantum information. The second region consists of the rates at which each sender can send quantum information. For each region, we give an example of a channel for which the corresponding region has a single-letter description. One of our examples relies on a new result proved here, perhaps of independent interest, stating that the coherent information over any degradable channel is concave in the input density operator. We conclude with connections to other work and a discussion on generalizations where each user simultaneously sends classical and quantum information.
