Exploration of multiphoton entangled states by using weak nonlinearities

Abstract

We propose a fruitful scheme for exploring multiphoton entangled states based on linear optics and weak nonlinearities. Compared with the previous schemes the present method is more feasible because there are only small phase shifts instead of a series of related functions of photon numbers in the process of interaction with Kerr nonlinearities. In the absence of decoherence we analyze the error probabilities induced by homodyne measurement and show that the maximal error probability can be made small enough even when the number of photons is large. This implies that the present scheme is quite tractable and it is possible to produce entangled states involving a large number of photons.

Exploration of photon-number entangled states using weak nonlinearities

A method for exploring photon-number entangled states with weak nonlinearities is described. We show that it is possible to create and detect such entanglement at various scales, ranging from microscopic to macroscopic systems. In the present architecture, we suggest that the maximal phase shift induced in the process of interaction between photons is proportional to photon numbers. Also, in the absence of decoherence we analyze maximum error probability and show its feasibility with current technology.

A nearly deterministic scheme for generation of multiphoton GHZ states with weak cross-Kerr nonlinearity

Yi Wang, Liu Ye, Bao‐Long Fang

We propose a scheme to generate polarization-entangled multiphoton Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states based on weak cross-Kerr nonlinearity and subsequent homodyne measurement. It can also be generalized to produce maximally N -qubit entangled states. The success probabilities of our schemes are almost equal to 1.

A Scheme for Eneration of Multi-Photon GHZ States with Cross-Kerr Nonlinearities

Ting-Ting Xu, Wei Xiong Wei Xiong, Liu Ye

With the help of cross-Kerr nonlinearities and homodyne measurement, we propose a scheme to generate three-photon GHZ states. Under the same framework, multi-photon GHZ state can be also realized. Compared with the previous ones, our scheme is much more simplified and lower errors. Moreover, only some linear elements and weak cross-Kerr mediums are employed, which make our scheme more feasible in the experiment.

Generating polarization-entangled W states using weak nonlinearity

Ming Yuan Gao, Wenhua Hu, Cheng-Zu Li

We present a scheme for preparing three-photon polarization-entangled W states. The signal photons and a strong probe field interact via weak cross-Kerr nonlinearity that conditionally causes a phase shift on the probe coherent state. A W state is then prepared with a high success probability by the homodyne measurement and postselection. The generating method is simple and efficient.

Simple Scheme for Preparation of Six-photon Entangled States via Cross-Kerr Medium

朱孟正 Zhu Meng-zheng, 赵春然 Zhao Chun-ran

A scheme is presented for preparing maximally entangled states among six modes. The scheme only utilizes weak cross-Kerr nonlinearity and momentum quadrature homodyne measurements on the probe mode of intense coherent light fields. It is relatively easy to generate Dicke states and W states of light fields in the scheme. It is not necessary that the cross-Kerr nonlinearity is very large,as long as the coherent light is bright enough. Therefore, this scheme is within the reach of current technology. In addition, only weak coherent light beams, with which single-photon sources have been replaced in the signal modes, are needed in the present scheme since it is difficult to realize single-photon sources in experiments.

Multiphoton Knill-Laflamme-Milburn states generated by nonlinear optics

Cai‐Peng Shen, Xiaofei Gu, Qi Guo +3 more

The Knill-Laflamme-Milburn (KLM) entangled state, proposed by Knill et al. in Nature409, 46 (2001)NATUAS0028-083610.1038/35051009, has unique advantages for linear optics quantum information processing tasks, because it is able to decrease the error rate. In this paper, we propose scalable schemes to generate the multi-qubit KLM entangled states with single-photon resources and weak cross-Kerr nonlinearity theoretically. We first construct the two-qubit KLM state, through which the three- and other n-qubit KLM states are generated. For the schemes using weak cross-Kerr nonlinearity, P homodyne measurement has a higher success rate than X homodyne measurement but with narrow applications since |αeiθ⟩ and |αe−iθ⟩ are distinguished from each other, which is undesirable for most of the entanglement generation schemes. To avoid this disadvantage, Jin et al. [Phys. Rev. A75, 054302 (2007)PLRAAN1050-294710.1103/PhysRevA.75.054302] introduced the coherent state superposition (CSS), c(|α⟩+|−α⟩), to generate a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state but with a rapid oscillation term, which needs to be ignored. Through designing the optical path uniquely and choosing the phase of cross-Kerr nonlinearity suitably, our P homodyne measurement and CSS probe mode-based schemes to generate the KLM state avoid the needless term. The present scalable schemes have high total success probabilities, high fidelities even in consideration of decoherence, and may find potential applications in the future with the further development of nonlinear optics.
