Abstract

We propose a new way of detecting frequencies using superradiant Rayleigh scattering from degenerate Bose gases. A measurement of the time evolution of population at the initial momentum state could determine an unknown frequency with respect to a known one at which the pump laser's frequency modulates. A range of frequencies from kHz to MHz could be determined with a fractional uncertainty of 10^{-6}.

Frequency measurement using Rayleigh scattering from a BEC

Aranya B. Bhattacherjee, Subhadeep De

We propose to use superradiant Rayleigh scattering from degenerate Bose gas to detect unknown frequencies coupled to the pump laser beam. Theoretically we show a measurement of the time evolution of population at the initial momentum state could determine the unknown frequency with respect to a known one at which the pump laser's frequency modulates. We show a range of frequencies from kHz to MHz could be determined with this method at the currently available state-of-the-art technology.

Evgenii Dmitrievich Trifonov, N. I. Shamrov

The theory of superradiant scattering of light from a Bose-Einstein condensate of a dilute atomic gas, which was earlier proposed by one of the authors, is used to study the spectral-kinetic characteristics of scattered radiation and the evolution of populations of coherent atomic states.

High-order momentum modes by resonant superradiant scattering

Xiaoji Zhou, Jiageng Fu, Xuzong Chen

The spatial and time evolutions of superradiant scattering are studied theoretically for a weak pump beam with different frequency components traveling along the long axis of an elongated Bose-Einstein condensate. Resulting from the analysis for mode competition between the different resonant channels and the local depletion of the spatial distribution in the superradiant Rayleigh scattering, a method of getting a large number of high-order forward modes by resonant frequency components of the pump beam is provided, which is beneficial to a lager momentum transfer in atom manipulation for the atom interferometry and atomic optics.

Superradiant Rayleigh scattering of light by the Bose-Einstein condensate of rarefied atomic gases

N. I. Shamrov

The superradiant Rayleigh scattering of high-intensity light pulses by the Bose-Einstein condensate of rubidium vapor is studied using the model proposed earlier. It is demonstrated that four states with a certain momentum are occupied under the experimental conditions (two states correspond to the forward recoil and two others correspond to the backward recoil). Condensate pulsations between the zero-momentum state and the above states are detected and studied. The corresponding shape of the coherent Rayleigh pulse is found.

On the theory of superradiant Rayleigh Scattering from a Bose-Einstein condensate

Evgenii Dmitrievich Trifonov

A theory of the superradiant Rayleigh scattering by a Bose-Einstein condensate is suggested. The theory is based on a semiclassical approach. Atomic states with definite momenta are used as basis functions. The Maxwell-Bloch equations are derived and solved to describe the intensity of scattered radiation and the evolution of the population of coherent atomic states.
