Abstract

We study a one-dimensional lattice model of interacting spinless fermions. This model is integrable for both periodic and open boundary conditions; the latter case includes the presence of Grassmann valued non-diagonal boundary fields breaking the bulk U (1) symmetry of the model. Starting from the embedding of this model into a graded Yang–Baxter algebra, an infinite hierarchy of commuting transfer matrices is constructed by means of a fusion procedure. For certain values of the coupling constant related to anisotropies of the underlying vertex model taken at roots of unity, this hierarchy is shown to truncate giving a finite set of functional equations for the spectrum of the transfer matrices. For generic coupling constants, the spectral problem is formulated in terms of a functional (or TQ-)equation which can be solved by Bethe ansatz methods for periodic and diagonal open boundary conditions. Possible approaches for the solution of the model with generic non-diagonal boundary fields are discussed.

Bethe ansatz solution of the small polaron with nondiagonal boundary terms

Nikos Karaiskos, André M Grabinski, Holger Frahm

The small polaron with generic, nondiagonal boundary terms is investigated within the framework of quantum integrability. The fusion hierarchy of the transfer matrices and its truncation for particular values of the anisotropy parameter are both employed, so that the spectral problem is formulated in terms of a TQ equation. The solution of this equation for generic boundary conditions is based on a deformation of the diagonal case. The eigenvalues of the model are extracted and the corresponding Bethe ansatz equations are presented. Finally, we comment on the eigenvectors of the model and explicitly compute the eigenstate of the model which evolves into the Fock vacuum when the off-diagonal boundary terms are switched off.

Small polaron with generic open boundary conditions: Exact solution via the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz

Xiaotian Xu, Junpeng Cao, Kun Hao +2 more

The small polaron, a one-dimensional lattice model of interacting spinless fermions, with generic non-diagonal boundary terms is studied by the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method. The presence of the Grassmann valued non-diagonal boundary fields gives rise to a typical U(1)-symmetry-broken fermionic model. The exact spectra of the Hamiltonian and the associated Bethe ansatz equations are derived by constructing an inhomogeneous T–Q relation.

Functional methods for the solution of one-dimensional quantum systems

Tobias Wirth

Subject of this work are integrable spin chains with general boundary conditions. In the framework of the Quantum Inverse Scattering Method Sklyanin has shown how to construct a family of commuting operators (transfer matrix) containing the hamiltonian of the XXX or XXZ spin chain with general boundary fields.Key ingredient is the underlying algebraic structure which is a combination of the Yang-Baxter algebra, using the known R-matrix representations, and a so-called Reflection algebra. The latter includes fields of arbitrary strength and direction acting on the first and last position of the chain. This setup is solvable via algebraic Bethe ansatz in the case of diagonal boundaries, i.e. the fields are parallel to each other and in the case of the XXZ model parallel to the distinguished direction.Kitanine et al. have managed to express local operators in terms of the non-local elements of the underlying algebraic structure in the case of half-infinite chain length hence establishing a possible approach to evaluate expectation values of physical observables.Their results will be picked up in this work and generalized to spin chains of arbitrary (including finite) lengths using non-linear integral equations for the lowest lying state with zero magnetization. In the case of non-diagonal boundary fields the lack of a reference state or pseudo vacuum prohibits the solution by algebraic Bethe ansatz. The method of separation of variables proposed by Sklyanin is not constrained in that sense and will be applied to this situation. In this approach for the XXX spin chain no restrictions to the boundary parameters are needed. The result is a TQ-equation on a finite discrete set of points and the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix are obtainable from this finite difference equation. As the underlying algebraic structure is independent of the representation, the analysis for the XXX spin chain can be extended to a spin-boson model.Using a known representation of the algebra for the bosonic degree of freedom again a TQ-equation is obtained but in this case being defined on an infinite discrete set of points. Finally a different approach to the case of non-diagonal boundary conditions using non-linear integral equations is studied.By construction of higher dimensional representations of the Yang Baxter algebra a hierarchy of transfer matrices is obtained. In this construction two R-matrices are fused together yielding the name of fusion hierarchy. From such hierarchies it is possible to derive non-linear integral equations for a certain eigenvalue of the transfer matrix using Fourier transform techniques. The equations are valid for arbitrary system sizes and a range of boundary parameters.By careful analysis of the zero and pole structure it is possible to extract information about the eigenvalue of a specific state.

Graded off-diagonal Bethe ansatz solution of the SU(2|2) spin chain model with generic integrable boundaries

Xiaotian Xu, Junpeng Cao, Yi Qiao +3 more

The graded off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method is proposed to study supersymmetric quantum integrable models (i.e., quantum integrable models associated with superalgebras). As an example, the exact solutions of the SU(2|2) vertex model with both periodic and generic open boundary conditions are constructed. By generalizing the fusion techniques to the supersymmetric case, a closed set of operator product identities about the transfer matrices are derived, which allows us to give the eigenvalues in terms of homogeneous or inhomogeneous T−Q relations. The method and results provided in this paper can be generalized to other high rank supersymmetric quantum integrable models.

FUSION HIERARCHY AND FINITE-SIZE CORRECTIONS OF Uq[sl(2)] INVARIANT VERTEX MODELS WITH OPEN BOUNDARIES

The fused six-vertex models with open boundary conditions are studied. The Bethe ansatz solution given by Sklyanin has been generalized to the transfer matrices of the fused models. We have shown that the eigenvalues of transfer matrices satisfy a group of functional relations, which are the su(2) fusion rule held by the transfer matrices of the fused models. The fused transfer matrices form a commuting family and also commute with the quantum group Uq[sl(2)]. In the case of the parameter qh = −1 (h = 4,5, · · ·) the functional relations in the limit of spectral parameter u → i ∞ are truncated. This shows that the su(2) fusion rule with finite level appears for the six vertex model with the open boundary conditions. We have solved the functional relations to obtain the finite-size corrections of the fused transfer matrices for low-lying excitations. From the corrections the central charges and conformal weights of underlying conformal field theory are extracted. To see different boundary conditions we also have studied the six-vertex model with a twisted boundary condition. hep-th/9502053; to appear in NPB. 1

Functional Bethe ansatz methods for the openXXXchain

Holger Frahm, Jan H Grelik, Alexander Seel +1 more

We study the spectrum of the integrable open XXX Heisenberg spin chain subject to non-diagonal boundary magnetic fields. The spectral problem for this model can be formulated in terms of functional equations obtained by separation of variables or, equivalently, from the fusion of transfer matrices. For generic boundary conditions the eigenvalues cannot be obtained from the solution of finitely many algebraic Bethe equations. Based on careful finite size studies of the analytic properties of the underlying hierarchy of transfer matrices we devise two approaches to analyze the functional equations. First we introduce a truncation method leading to Bethe-type equations determining the energy spectrum of the spin chain. In a second approach, the hierarchy of functional equations is mapped to an infinite system of nonlinear integral equations of TBA type. The two schemes have complementary ranges of applicability and facilitate an efficient numerical analysis for a wide range of boundary parameters. Some data are presented on the finite-size corrections to the energy of the state which evolves into the antiferromagnetic ground state in the limit of parallel boundary fields.
