Long-Distance Bell-State Analysis of Fully Independent Polarization Weak Coherent States

Thiago Ferreira da Silva, Douglas Vitoreti, GUILHERME BARRETO XAVIER +2 more

Here we report the experimental implementation of a linear-optics partial Bell-state analyzer following the propagation of single-photons through long telecommunication optical fibers. Polarization encoded weak coherent states were sent from independent remote continuous wave faint laser sources over two 8.5 km long optical fiber spools. Automatic polarization stabilization systems were used in each spool to compensate the random polarization drift. We demonstrate stable two-photon interference with a dip visibility of 47.8% over a 40 minute time-interval, close to the theoretical maximum of 50% for weak coherent states. We successfully show that it is possible to carry out remote long-distance Bell-state analysis of polarization weak coherent states in spite of random residual birefringence fluctuations in optical fibers. These results pave the way for important applications in quantum communications with polarization qubits such as measurement device-independent quantum key distribution and quantum repeaters.

Takahiro Inagaki, Nobuyuki Matsuda, Osamu Tadanaga +3 more

We report the experimental distribution of a time-bin entangled photon pair over 300 km of optical fiber, which is a record for long-distance quantum communication. The observed two-photon interference fringe exhibited a visibility of 84%.

Stable polarization-encoded quantum key distribution in fiber

Guang Wu, Jie Chen, Yao Li +1 more

Polarizations of single-photon pulses have been controlled with long-term stability of more than 10 hours by using an active feedback technique for auto-compensation of unpredictable polarization scrambling in long-distance fiber. Experimental tests of long-term operations in 50, 75 and 100 km fibers demonstrated that such a single-photon polarization control supported stable polarization encoding in long-distance fibers to facilitate stable one-way fiber system for polarization-encoded quantum key distribution, providing quantum bit error rates below the absolute security threshold.

Ultra Stable All-Fiber Telecom-Band Entangled Photon-Pair Source for Turnkey Quantum Communication Applications

Chuang Liang, Kim Fook Lee, Todd Levin +2 more

We demonstrate a novel alignment-free all-fiber source for generating telecom-band polarization-entangled photon pairs. Up to 91.7% two-photon-interference visibility is observed without subtracting accidental coincidences arising from background photons while operating the source at room temperature.

Active polarization control for quantum communication in long‐distance optical fibers with shared telecom traffic

GUILHERME BARRETO XAVIER, G. Vilela de Faria, Thiago Ferreira da Silva +2 more

Abstract We experimentally demonstrate the compatibility of wavelength multiplexed active polarization stabilization for quantum communication in an optical fiber carrying telecom traffic. One of the feedback control channels contains a 9.953 Gb/s datastream generated from a BER meter. We verify the ability to transmit single‐photons in the two opposite directions of a 23‐km optical fiber spool, while maintaining their state of polarization stable and a classical BER in the feedback channel error‐free, during 6 h of continuous operation. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Detection of Polarization Entanglement after 75 km of Fiber Transmission

Andreas Poppe, Hannes Hübel, T. Lederer +3 more

Polarization entanglement was measured over 75km of singlemode fiber. In the first 60km only minimal degradation of polarization entanglement was observed leaving sufficient visibility for secure quantum communication.
