Abstract

We have investigated theoretically the interaction between individual quantum dot with broken inversion symmetry and an electromagnetic field of a single-mode quantum microcavity. It is shown that in the strong-coupling regime the system demonstrates nonlinear optical properties and can serve as emitter of the terahertz radiation at Rabi frequency of the system. Analytical results for the simplest physical situations are obtained and a numerical quantum approach for calculating an emission spectrum is developed.

Optical spectra of a quantum dot in a microcavity in the nonlinear regime

The optical emission spectrum of a quantum dot in strong coupling with the single mode of a microcavity is obtained in the nonlinear regime. We study how exciton-exciton interactions alter the emission spectrum of the system, bringing the linear Rabi doublet into a multiplet structure that is strongly dependent on the cavity-exciton energy detuning. We emphasize how nonlinearity can be used to evidence the genuine quantum nature of the coupling by producing satellites peaks of the Rabi doublet that originate from the quantized energy levels of the interactions.

Spectrum of a microcavity with single quantum nonlinearity

In this paper, we investigate the emission spectrum of a nonlinear microcavity at the level of individual quantum. The physical system consists of one coherently pumped microcavity in which a self-interacting bosonic matter field strongly couples with the cavity field. By the master equation treatment, we obtain an analytical expression for the emission spectrum of the cavity. It is found that when the strength of the bosonic nonlinear effect is greater than a critical level, the spectrum of the single-mode cavity field is divided into doublet peaks. Furthermore, we also study the influence of the detuning between cavity field and matter field on the emission property. We show that the emission intensity is enhanced by negative detuning and suppressed by positive detuning.

Radiation emission from an asymmetric quantum dot coupled to a plasmonic nanostructure

Abstract We propose a scheme for controlling the absorption and RFS of a quantum dot (QD) with broken inversion symmetry interacting with a plasmonic nanostructure. The QD is described as a two-level atom-like system with a permanent dipole moment in the excited state. A linearly polarized laser field drives the optical transition of the QD and produces localized surface plasmons in the MNP. The influence of plasmonic effects between the nanoparticle and the dot is analyzed using the Green tensor method. We found terahertz (THz) emission in the resonance fluorescence spectrum when the laser frequency lies above the transition frequency. The position and strength of the THz peaks is controlled by means of the dot-nanoparticle separation. The quantum nature of the emitted THz photons is analyzed by evaluating the second-order fluorescence intensity correlation function. We found a periodic alternation of photon bunching and anti-bunching with a period that depends on the polarization of the driving field.

Photon antibunching from a single quantum dot-microcavity system in the strong coupling regime

Light-matter interaction on the level of single emitters and single photons has attracted significant scientific interest in recent years. Of particular interest is strong coupling of single emitters in solid state systems and its application to quantum information processing. Due to the enormous progress in semiconductor technology it has become feasible to demonstrate strong coupling of single quantum dots in high-Q microcavity systems. Although it has been argued in these studies that it is very unlikely that several degenerated quantum dots contributed to the observed Rabi-splitting, it was not verified that the system had one and only one emitter. In this work we present proof that the emission from a strongly-coupled QD- microcavity system is dominated by a single quantum emitter.

Matter Coupling to Strong Electromagnetic Fields in Two-Level Quantum Systems with Broken Inversion Symmetry

Oleg V. Kibis, Gregory Ya. Slepyan, С. А. Максименко +1 more

We demonstrate theoretically the parametric oscillator behavior of a two-level quantum system with broken inversion symmetry exposed to a strong electromagnetic field. A multitude of resonance frequencies and additional harmonics in the scattered light spectrum as well as an altered Rabi frequency are predicted to be inherent to such systems. In particular, dipole radiation at the Rabi frequency appears to be possible. Since the Rabi frequency is controlled by the strength of the coupling electromagnetic field, the effect can serve for the frequency-tuned parametric amplification and generation of electromagnetic waves. Manifestation of the effect is discussed for III-nitride quantum dots with strong built-in electric field breaking the inversion symmetry. Terahertz emission from arrays of such quantum dots is shown to be experimentally observable.

A theory of nonlinear emission of localized excitons coupled to the optical mode of the microcavity is presented.Numerical results are compared with analytical ones. The effects of exciton-exciton interaction within the quantum dots and with the reservoir formed by non-resonant pumping are considered. It is demonstrated that the nonlinearity due to the interaction strongly affects the shape of the emission spectra. The collective superradiant mode of the excitons is shown to be stable against the nonlinear effects.
