Coherent states for a 2-sphere with a magnetic field

Abstract

We consider a particle moving on a 2-sphere in the presence of a constant magnetic field. Building on our earlier work in the nonmagnetic case we construct coherent states for this system. The coherent states are labeled by points in the associated phase space, the (co)tangent bundle of S 2 . They are constructed as eigenvectors for certain annihilation operators and expressed in terms of a certain heat kernel. These coherent states are not of Perelomov type but rather are constructed according to the ‘complexifier’ approach of Thiemann. We describe the Segal–Bargmann representation associated with the coherent states which is equivalent to a resolution of the identity. This article is part of a special issue of Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical devoted to ‘Coherent states: mathematical and physical aspects’.

Coherent States on Spheres

Abstract. We describe a family of coherent states and an associated resolution of the identity for a quantum particle whose classical configuration space is the d-dimensional sphere S d. The coherent states are labeled by points in the associated phase space T ∗ (S d). These coherent states are not of Perelomov type but rather are constructed as the eigenvectors of suitably defined annihilation operators. We describe as well the Segal–Bargmann representation for the system, the associated unitary Segal–Bargmann transform, and a natural inversion formula. Although many of these results are in principle special cases of the results of B. Hall and M. Stenzel, we give here a substantially different description based on ideas of T. Thiemann and of K. Kowalski and J. Rembieliński. All of these results can be generalized to a system whose configuration space is an arbitrary compact symmetric space. We focus on the sphere case in order to carry out the calculations in a self-contained and explicit way.

Coherent states on spheres

We describe a family of coherent states and an associated resolution of the identity for a quantum particle whose classical configuration space is the d-dimensional sphere Sd. Quantizations on the circle and coherent states

G Chadzitaskos, P Luft, J Tolar

We present a possible construction of coherent states on the unit circle as configuration space. Our approach is based on Borel quantizations on S 1 including the Aharonov–Bohm-type quantum description. Coherent states are constructed by Perelomov's method as group-related coherent states generated by Weyl operators on the quantum phase space . Because of the duality of canonical coordinates and momenta, i.e. the angular variable and the integers, this formulation can also be interpreted as coherent states over an infinite periodic chain. For the construction, we use the analogy with our quantization and coherent states over a finite periodic chain where the quantum phase space was . The coherent states constructed in this work are shown to satisfy the resolution of unity. To compare them with canonical coherent states, some of their further properties are also studied demonstrating similarities as well as substantial differences. Spin coherent states with monopole harmonics on the Riemann sphere for the Kravchuk oscillator

Zouhaı̈r Mouayn

We consider a class of generalized spin coherent states by choosing the labeling coefficients to be monopole harmonics. The latters are L2 eigenstates of the mth spherical Landau level on the Riemann sphere with m in Z+. We verify that the Klauder minimum properties for these states to be considered as coherent states are satisfied. We particularize them for the case of the Kravchuk oscillator and we obtain explicite expression for their wave functions. The associated coherent states transforms provide us with a Bargmann-type representation for the states of the oscillator Hilbert space. For the lowest level m = 0 indexing monopole harmonics, we identify the obtained coherent states to be those of Klauder-Perelomov type which were constructed in Ref.J. Math. Phys. 48, 112106 (2007)

Coherent states over symplectic homogeneous spaces

Stephan De Bièvre

A generalization of the Perelomov procedure for the construction of coherent states is proposed. The new procedure is used to construct systems of coherent states in the carrier spaces of unitary irreducible representations of groups G=S∅V, where V is a vector space and S⊂GL(V). The coherent states are shown to be labeled by the points in cotangent bundles T*𝒪* of orbits 𝒪* of S in V*, the dual of V; it is proven that T*𝒪* is a symplectic homogeneous space of G. The generalized procedure for the construction of coherent states presented in this paper is shown to encompass as special cases the constructions known in the literature for the coherent states of the Weyl–Heisenberg, the ‘‘ax+b,’’ and the Galilei and Poincaré groups. Moreover, completely new sets of coherent states are constructed for the Euclidean group E(n), where the Perelomov construction fails.

Coherent states of the real symplectic group in a complex analytic parametrization. II. Annihilation-operator coherent states

C. Quesne

In the present series of papers, the coherent states of Sp(2d,R), corresponding to the positive discrete series irreducible representations 〈λd+n/2,..,λ1+n/2〉, encountered in physical applications, are analyzed in detail with special emphasis on those of Sp(4,R) and Sp(6,R). The present paper discusses the annihilation-operator coherent states, i.e., the eigenstates of the noncompact lowering generators corresponding to complex eigenvalues. These states generalize the coherent states introduced by Barut and Girardello for Sp(2,R), and later on extended by Deenen and Quesne to the Sp(2d,R) irreducible representations of the type 〈(λ+n/2)d〉. When λ1,...,λd are not all equal, it was shown by Deenen and Quesne that the eigenvalues do not completely specify the eigenstates of the noncompact lowering generators. In the present work, their characterization is completed by a set of continuous labels parametrizing the (unitary-operator) coherent states of the maximal compact subgroup U(d). The resulting coherent states are therefore of mixed type, being annihilation-operator coherent states only as regards the noncompact generators. A realization in a subspace of a Bargmann space of analytic functions shows that such coherent states satisfy a unity resolution relation in the representation space of 〈λd +n/2,...,λ1+n/2〉, and therefore may be used as a continuous basis in such space. The analytic functions and the differential operators representing the representation space discrete bases and the Sp(2d,R) generators, respectively, are found in explicit form. It is concluded that the annihilation-operator coherent state representation provides the mathematical foundation for the use of differentiation operators with respect to the noncompact raising generators in symbolic expressions of the Sp(2d,R) generators. This is to be compared with the habit of replacing a boson annihilation operator by a symbolic differentiation with respect to the corresponding creation operator, accounted for by the Bargmann representation of such operators.
