Squeezing induced transition of long-time decay rate

Abstract

We investigate the nonclassicality of several kinds of nonclassical optical fields such as the pure or mixed single photon-added coherent states and the cat states in the photon-loss or the dephasing channels by exploring the entanglement potential as the measure. It is shown that the long-time decay of entanglement potentials of these states in photon loss channel is dependent of their initial quadrature squeezing properties. In the case of photon-loss, transition of long-time decay rate emerges at the boundary between the squeezing and non-squeezing initial non-gaussian states if log-negativity is adopted as the measure of entanglement potential. However, the transition behavior disappears if the concurrence is adopted as the measure of entanglement potential. For the case of the dephasing, distinct decay behaviors of the nonclassicality are also revealed.

Nonclassicality of quantum excitation of classical coherent field in photon-loss channel

Shangbin Li, Xu‐Bo Zou, Guang‐Can Guo

We investigate the nonclassicality of photon-added coherent states in the photon-loss channel by exploring the entanglement potential and negative Wigner distribution. The total negative probability defined by the volume of the negative part of the Wigner function reduces with the decay time. The total negative probability and the entanglement potential of pure photon-added coherent states exhibit the similar dependence on the beam intensity. The reduce of the total negative probability is consistent with the behavior of entanglement potential for the dissipative single-photon-added coherent state at short decay times.

Nonclassicality and decoherence of photon-subtracted squeezed vacuum states

Xiang‐Guo Meng, Zhen Wang, Hong-Yi Fan +1 more

Extending the recent work completed by Biswas and Agarwal [Phys. Rev. A75, 032104 (2007)] to the case of m-photon-subtracted squeezed vacuum states (m-PSSVSs), we focus our study on nonclassicality and decoherence of the m-PSSVSs. The nonclassical properties are investigated in terms of the squeezing character, the oscillation of photon-number distribution, and the partial negativity of Wigner function (WF).We then study the effect of decoherence on the m-PSSVSs in two different channels, viz., thermal process and phase damping. In each case, the time-evolution of density operators and WFs of such states is derived analytically. After undergoing the thermal channel, the initial pure m-PSSVSs evolve into a mixed state that turns out to be a Laguerre polynomial of combination of creation and annihilation operators within normal ordering; however, they become another mixed state with the exponential decay due to phase damping. At long times, these fields decay to a highly classical thermal field as a result of thermal noise, but they still keep nonclassicality in the phase-damping channel.

Dynamics of nonclassicality in photon-loss channel

Shuangshuang Fu, Cheng Huan, Shunlong Luo

Abstract When radiation fields propagate through mediums and interact with environments, the quantum characteristics of the field states usually undergo deterioration, in particular, the nonclassicality (quantumness) often decays due to photon loss. To address this issue in a quantitative way, we invoke a nonclassicality quantifier based on the Wigner-Yanase skew information and explore the dynamics of nonclassicality in the photon-loss channel for several typical initial states. We illustrate pictorially the decoherence and quantum to classical transition in the photon-loss channel from an informational perspective. It is remarkable that for certain initial states with small average photon numbers, the nonclassicality, as quantified in terms of the Wigner-Yanase skew information, may exhibit nonmonotonic behavior (revival), as compared with the general case of monotonic decaying of nonclassicality.

Slowing Quantum Decoherence by Squeezing in Phase Space

Hanna Le Jeannic, Adrien Cavaillès, Kun Huang +2 more

Non-Gaussian states, and specifically the paradigmatic cat state, are well known to be very sensitive to losses. When propagating through damping channels, these states quickly lose their nonclassical features and the associated negative oscillations of their Wigner function. However, by squeezing the superposition states, the decoherence process can be qualitatively changed and substantially slowed down. Here, as a first example, we experimentally observe the reduced decoherence of squeezed optical coherent-state superpositions through a lossy channel. To quantify the robustness of states, we introduce a combination of a decaying value and a rate of decay of the Wigner function negativity. This work, which uses squeezing as an ancillary Gaussian resource, opens new possibilities to protect and manipulate quantum superpositions in phase space.

Evolution of a two-mode squeezed vacuum for amplitude decay via continuous-variable entangled state approach

Xiang‐Gao Meng, Ji‐Suo Wang, Bao‐Long Liang +1 more

Extending the recent work completed by Fan et al. [ Front. Phys. 9(1), 74 (2014)] to a two-mode case, we investigate how a two-mode squeezed vacuum evolves when it undergoes a two-mode amplitude dissipative channel, with the same decay rate κ, using the continuous-variable entangled state approach. Our analytical results show that the initial pure-squeezed vacuum state evolves into a definite mixed state with entanglement and squeezing, decaying over time as a result of amplitude decay. We also investigate the time evolutions of the photon number distribution, the Wigner function, and the optical tomogram in this channel. Our results indicate that the evolved photon number distribution is related to Jacobi polynomials, the Wigner function has a standard Gaussian distribution (corresponding to the vacuum) at long periods, losing its nonclassicality due to amplitude decay, and a larger squeezing leads to a longer decay time.

Nonclassicality and decoherence of photon-subtracted squeezed states

Asoka Biswas, G. S. Agarwal

We discuss nonclassical properties of single-photon subtracted squeezed vacuum states in terms of the sub-Poissonian statistics and the negativity of the Wigner function. We derive a compact expression for the Wigner function from which we find the region of phase space where Wigner function is negative. We find an upper bound on the squeezing parameter for the state to exhibit sub-Poissonian statistics. We then study the effect of decoherence on the single-photon subtracted squeezed states. We present results for two different models of decoherence, viz. amplitude decay model and the phase diffusion model. In each case we give analytical results for the time evolution of the state. We discuss the loss of nonclassicality as a result of decoherence. We show through the study of their phase-space properties how these states decay to vacuum due to the decay of photons. We show that phase damping leads to very slow decoherence, slower than the photon-number decay.
