Abstract

Extending the recent work completed by Biswas and Agarwal [Phys. Rev. A75, 032104 (2007)] to the case of m-photon-subtracted squeezed vacuum states (m-PSSVSs), we focus our study on nonclassicality and decoherence of the m-PSSVSs. The nonclassical properties are investigated in terms of the squeezing character, the oscillation of photon-number distribution, and the partial negativity of Wigner function (WF).We then study the effect of decoherence on the m-PSSVSs in two different channels, viz., thermal process and phase damping. In each case, the time-evolution of density operators and WFs of such states is derived analytically. After undergoing the thermal channel, the initial pure m-PSSVSs evolve into a mixed state that turns out to be a Laguerre polynomial of combination of creation and annihilation operators within normal ordering; however, they become another mixed state with the exponential decay due to phase damping. At long times, these fields decay to a highly classical thermal field as a result of thermal noise, but they still keep nonclassicality in the phase-damping channel.

Squeezed number state and squeezed thermal state: decoherence analysis and nonclassical properties in the laser process

Xiang‐Guo Meng, Zhen Wang, Hong-Yi Fan +1 more

We investigate how the squeezed thermal state (STS) and squeezed number state (SNS) evolve undergoing decoherence in the laser process. Remarkably, the initial SNS, an example of a pure state, evolves into a mixed state, which turns out to be a Laguerre polynomial of combination of creation and annihilation operators within normal ordering; however, the STS, a mixed state, still keeps squeezed and thermal. At long times, these fields lose their nonclassical nature and decay to a highly classical thermal field. The normally ordered density operators of such states in the laser channel lead to deriving the analytical time-evolution expressions of the Wigner functions (WFs). Their nonclassicality is investigated in reference to the time-evolution WFs, which indicates that both of the WFs decay to the same thermal WF as a result of decoherence when the decay time t or the cavity loss κ of the laser is large enough.

Nonclassicality and decoherence of photon-subtracted squeezed states

Asoka Biswas, G. S. Agarwal

We discuss nonclassical properties of single-photon subtracted squeezed vacuum states in terms of the sub-Poissonian statistics and the negativity of the Wigner function. We derive a compact expression for the Wigner function from which we find the region of phase space where Wigner function is negative. We find an upper bound on the squeezing parameter for the state to exhibit sub-Poissonian statistics. We then study the effect of decoherence on the single-photon subtracted squeezed states. We present results for two different models of decoherence, viz. amplitude decay model and the phase diffusion model. In each case we give analytical results for the time evolution of the state. We discuss the loss of nonclassicality as a result of decoherence. We show through the study of their phase-space properties how these states decay to vacuum due to the decay of photons. We show that phase damping leads to very slow decoherence, slower than the photon-number decay.

Photon-subtracted squeezed thermal state: Nonclassicality and decoherence

Liyun Hu, Xue-xiang Xu, Zisheng Wang +1 more

We investigate nonclassical properties of the field states generated by subtracting any number of photons from the squeezed thermal state (STS). It is found that the normalization factor of photon-subtracted STS (PSSTS) is a Legendre polynomial of squeezing parameter $r$ and average photon number $\mathrm{n\ifmmode \bar{}\else \={}\fi{}}$ of the thermal state. Expressions of several quasiprobability distributions of PSSTS are derived analytically. Furthermore, the nonclassicality is discussed in terms of the negativity of the Wigner function (WF). It is shown that the WF of single PSSTS always has negative values if $\mathrm{n\ifmmode \bar{}\else \={}\fi{}}<\mathrm{sinh}{}^{2}r$ at the phase space center. The decoherence effect on PSSTS is then included by analytically deriving the time evolution of WF. The results show that the WF of single PSSTS has negative value if $2\ensuremath{\kappa}t<\mathrm{ln}{1\ensuremath{-}(2\mathrm{n\ifmmode \bar{}\else \={}\fi{}}+1)(\mathrm{n\ifmmode \bar{}\else \={}\fi{}}\ensuremath{-}\mathrm{sinh}{}^{2}r)/[(2\mathfrak{N}+1)(\mathrm{n\ifmmode \bar{}\else \={}\fi{}}\mathrm{cosh}2r+\mathrm{sinh}{}^{2}r)]}$, which is dependent not only on average number $\mathfrak{N}$ of thermal photons in the environment, but also on $\mathrm{n\ifmmode \bar{}\else \={}\fi{}}$ and $r$.

Statistical properties and decoherence of two-mode photon-subtracted squeezed vacuum

Liyun Hu, Xue-Xiang, Hong-Yi Fan

We investigate the statistical properties of the photon-subtractions from the two-mode squeezed vacuum state and its decoherence in a thermal environment. It is found that the state can be considered as a squeezed two-variable Hermite polynomial excitation vacuum and the normalization of this state is the Jacobi polynomial of the squeezing parameter. The compact expression for Wigner function (WF) is also derived analytically by using the Weyl ordered operators' invariance under similar transformations. Especially, the nonclassicality is discussed in terms of the negativity of WF. The effect of decoherence on this state is then discussed by deriving the analytical time evolution results of WF. It is shown that the WF is always positive for any squeezing parameter and photon-subtraction number if the decay time exceeds an upper bound (}$κt>{1/2}\ln \frac{2\bar{n}+2}{2\bar{n}+1}).

Nonclassicality of photon-added squeezed vacuum and its decoherence in thermal environment

Liyun Hu, Hong-Yi Fan

We studied the nonclassicality of photon-added squeezed vacuum (PASV) and its decoherence in thermal environment in terms of the sub-Poissonian statistics and the negativity of the Wigner function (WF). By converting the PASV to a squeezed Hermite polynomial excitation state, we derive a compact expression for the normalization factor of m-PASV, which is an m-order Legendre polynomial of squeezing parameter r. We also derive the explicit expression of WF of m-PASV and find the negative region of WF in phase space. We show that there is an upper bound value of r for this state to exhibit sub-Poissonian statistics increasing as m increases. Then we derive the explicit analytical expression of time evolution of WF of m-PASV in the thermal channel and discuss the loss of nonclassicality using the negativity of WF. The threshold value of decay time is presented for the single PASV.

Nonclassical properties of photon-added two-mode squeezed thermal states and their decoherence in the thermal channel

Xiang‐Guo Meng, Zhen Wang, Hong-Yi Fan +2 more

We investigate nonclassicality and decoherence of field states generated with the non-Gaussian operation of photon addition to a two-mode squeezed thermal state (TSTS) using the normally ordered density operator of the photon-added TSTS (PTSTS). The normalization factor of the PTSTS is just a Jacobi polynomial of the squeezing parameter γ and the average photon number n¯ of the thermal field. We show that the fields in such states exhibit remarkable quantum features, such as sub-Poissonian photon statistics, the anti-bunching effect, and photon-number distribution. The nonclassicality is discussed in phase space based on the partial negativity of the Wigner function (WF) with two-variable Hermite polynomials. The results show that the non-Gaussian WF always exhibits the quantum interference structure caused by the two-mode squeezing operation and has some negative regions for any value of n¯, γ, and the photon-addition numbers m, n. In addition, the effect of decoherence on the PTSTS in the thermal channel is studied by analytically deriving the time-evolution WF. We find that the WF becomes Gaussian (corresponding to a classical thermal state) at long times, losing its nonclassicality as a result of decoherence, and a larger m (or n) leads to a longer decoherence time κt.
