Abstract

We introduce a one-parameter-generalized oscillator algebra (that covers the case of the harmonic oscillator algebra) and discuss its finite- and infinite-dimensional representations according to the sign of the parameter κ. We define an (Hamiltonian) operator associated with and examine the degeneracies of its spectrum. For the finite (when κ < 0) and the infinite (when κ ⩾ 0) representations of , we construct the associated phase operators and build temporally stable phase states as eigenstates of the phase operators. To overcome the difficulties related to the phase operator in the infinite-dimensional case and to avoid the degeneracy problem for the finite-dimensional case, we introduce a truncation procedure which generalizes the one used by Pegg and Barnett for the harmonic oscillator. This yields a truncated-generalized oscillator algebra , where s denotes the truncation order. We construct two types of temporally stable states for (as eigenstates of a phase operator and as eigenstates of a polynomial in the generators of ). Two applications are considered in this paper. The first concerns physical realizations of and in the context of one-dimensional quantum systems with finite (Morse system) or infinite (Pöschl–Teller system) discrete spectra. The second deals with mutually unbiased bases used in quantum information.

SU(2) and SU(1,1) Approaches to Phase Operators and Temporally Stable Phase States: Applications to Mutually Unbiased Bases and Discrete Fourier Transforms

Natig M. Atakishiyev, M. Kibler, Kurt Bernardo Wolf

We propose a group-theoretical approach to the generalized oscillator algebra Aκ recently investigated in J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 2010, 43, 115303. The case κ ≥ 0 corresponds to the noncompact group SU(1,1) (as for the harmonic oscillator and the Pöschl-Teller systems) while the case κ < 0 is described by the compact group SU(2) (as for the Morse system). We construct the phase operators and the corresponding temporally stable phase eigenstates for Aκ in this group-theoretical context. The SU(2) case is exploited for deriving families of mutually unbiased bases used in quantum information. Along this vein, we examine some characteristics of a quadratic discrete Fourier transform in connection with generalized quadratic Gauss sums and generalized Hadamard matrices.

Generalized graph states and mutually unbiased bases from multi-qudits phase states

O. Achkir, Mohammed Daoud A, Mostafa Mansour

The description of qudits in a formalism based on a generalized variant of Weyl–Heisenberg algebras is discussed. The unitary phase operators for a multi-qudit system and the corresponding phase states (the eigenstates of the phase operator) are constructed. We discuss the dynamics of multi-qudit phase states governed by a generalized Hamiltonian involving one- and two-body interactions which offer a remarkable connection between phase states, generalized graph states and the mutually unbiased bases. The entangled phase states are shown to possess the following properties simultaneously, namely the mutually unbiasedness of phase states resulting from the one-body generalized oscillator Hamiltonian and the entanglement properties of generalized graph states resulting from the two-body interaction Hamiltonian.

Phase operators and phase states associated with the su(n + 1) Lie algebra

S. Hajji, Bouchra Maroufi, Mostafa Mansour +1 more

The main aim of this work is to build unitary phase operators and the corresponding temporally stable phase states for the [Formula: see text] Lie algebra. We first introduce an irreducible finite-dimensional Hilbertian representation of the [Formula: see text] Lie algebra which is suitable for our purpose. The phase operators obtained from the [Formula: see text] generators are defined and the phase states are derived as eigenstates associated to these unitary phase operators. The special cases of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] Lie algebras are also explicitly investigated.

Admissible cyclic representations and an algebraic approach to quantum phase

Tugrul Hakioglu

Nonadmissible, weakly admissible and admissible cyclic representations and other algebraic properties of the generalized homographic oscillator (GHO) are studied in detail. For certain ranges of the deformation parameter, it is shown that this new deformed oscillator is a prototype cyclic oscillator endowed with a non-negative (admissible) spectrum. By changing the deformation parameter, the cyclic spectrum can be tuned to have an arbitrarily large period. It is shown that the standard harmonic oscillator is recovered at the nonadmissible infinite-period limit of the GHO. With these properties, the GHO provides a concrete example of an oscillator rich in a variety of cyclic representations. It is well known that such representations are of relevance to the proper algebraic formulation of the quantum-phase operator. Using a general scheme, it is shown that admissible cyclic algebras permit a well-defined Hermitian phase operator of which properties are studied in detail at finite periods as well as at the infinite-period limit. Fujikawa's index approach is applied to admissible cyclic representations and in particular to the phase operator in such algebras. Using the specific example of GHO it is confirmed that the infinite-period limit is distinctively singular. The connection with the Pegg-Barnett phase formalism is established in this singular limit as the period of the cyclic representations tends to infinity. The singular behaviour at this limit identifies the algebraic problems, in a concrete example, emerging in the formulation of a standard quantum harmonic-oscillator phase operator.

Trajectories of generalized quantum states for systems with finite discrete spectrum and classical analogs

Maia N Angelova, Anaelle Hertz, Véronique Hussin

In this paper, we construct generalized quantum states for systems with finite discrete spectrum and compare the behavior of those states with the classical analogs. Phase-space trajectories are analyzed in the classical and quantum cases. We focus on the following bounded anharmonic exactly solvable one-dimensional potentials: Morse, hyperbolic Pöschl-Teller and Rosen-Morse.
