Abstract

We report on the observation of five Feshbach resonances in collisions between ultracold $^{7}\mathrm{Li}$ and $^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ atoms in the absolute ground-state mixture where both species are in their $\ensuremath{\mid}f,{m}_{f}⟩=\ensuremath{\mid}1,1⟩$ hyperfine states. The resonances appear as trap losses for the $^{7}\mathrm{Li}$ cloud induced by inelastic heteronuclear three-body collisions. The magnetic field values where they occur are important quantities for an accurate determination of the interspecies interaction potentials. Results of coupled channels calculations based on the observed resonances are presented and refined potential parameters are given. A very broad Feshbach resonance centered around $649\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{G}$ should allow for fine-tuning of the interaction strength in future experiments.

Feshbach resonances in mixtures of ultracold Li6 and Rb87 gases

We report on the observation of two Feshbach resonances in collisions between ultracold $^{6}\mathrm{Li}$ and $^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ atoms in their respective hyperfine ground states $\ensuremath{\mid}F,{m}_{F}⟩=\ensuremath{\mid}1∕2,1∕2⟩$ and \ensuremath{\mid}1,1⟩. The resonances show up as trap losses for the $^{6}\mathrm{Li}$ cloud induced by inelastic Li-Rb-Rb three-body collisions. The magnetic field values where they occur represent important benchmarks for an accurate determination of the interspecies interaction potentials. A broad Feshbach resonance located at $1066.92\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{G}$ opens interesting prospects for the creation of ultracold heteronuclear molecules. We furthermore observe a strong enhancement of the narrow $p$-wave Feshbach resonance in collisions of $^{6}\mathrm{Li}$ atoms at $158.55\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{G}$ in the presence of a dense $^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ cloud. The effect of the $^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ cloud is to introduce Li-Li-Rb three-body collisions occurring at a higher rate than Li-Li-Li collisions.

Pengjun Wang, Zhengkun Fu, Shijie Chai +1 more

We report the experimental preparations of the absolute ground states of 87 Rb and 40 K atoms (| F = 1, m F = 1〉 + | F = 9/2, m F = −9/2〉) by means of the radio-frequency and microwave adiabatic rapid passages, and the observation of magnetic Feshbach resonances in an ultracold mixture of bosonic 87 Rb and fermionic 40 K atoms between 0 T and 6.0 × 10 −2 T, including 7 homonuclear and 4 heteronuclear Feshbach resonances. The resonances are identified by the abrupt trap loss of atoms induced by the strong inelastic three-body collisions. These Feshbach resonances should enable the experimental control of interspecies interactions.

Feshbach resonances in ultracold Rb 85 − Rb 87 and Li 6 − Rb 87 mixtures

We present an analysis of experimentally accessible magnetic Feshbach resonances in ultracold heteronuclear $^{85}\mathrm{Rb}\text{\ensuremath{-}}^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ and $^{6}\mathrm{Li}\text{\ensuremath{-}}^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ mixtures. Using recent experimental measurements of the triplet scattering lengths for $^{6}\mathrm{Li}\text{\ensuremath{-}}^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ and $^{7}\mathrm{Li}\text{\ensuremath{-}}^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ mixtures and Feshbach resonances for one combination of atomic states, we create model potential curves and fine-tune them to reproduce the measured resonances and to predict the location of several experimentally relevant resonances in Li-Rb collisions. To model $^{85}\mathrm{Rb}\text{\ensuremath{-}}^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ collisions, we use accurate ${\mathrm{Rb}}_{2}$ potentials obtained previously from the analysis of experiments on $^{87}\mathrm{Rb}\text{\ensuremath{-}}^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ collisions. We find resonances that occur at very low magnetic fields, below $10\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{G}$, which may be useful for entanglement generation in optical lattices or atom chip magnetic traps.

Observation of Feshbach resonances between ultracold Na and Rb atoms

Fudong Wang, Dezhi Xiong, Xiaoke Li +2 more

We have successfully prepared an optically trapped ultracold mixture of ${}^{23}$Na and ${}^{87}$Rb atoms and studied their interspecies Feshbach resonances. Using two different spin combinations, several $s$- and $p$-wave resonances are identified by observing high inelastic losses and temperature increases for both species near resonant magnetic field values. The two $s$-wave resonances observed below 500 G between atoms in their lowest-energy levels are possible candidates for Feshbach molecule association. Our results are well characterized by a coupled-channel model which also refines the ground-state interaction potentials between ${}^{23}$Na and ${}^{87}$Rb. This work opens up the prospect for preparing ultracold ensembles of ground-state bosonic NaRb molecules which are chemically stable and can provide strong dipolar interactions.

Observation of Heteronuclear Feshbach Resonances in a Mixture of Bosons and Fermions

S. Inouye, J. Goldwin, M. L. Olsen +3 more

Three magnetic-field induced heteronuclear Feshbach resonances were identified in collisions between bosonic $^{87}\mathrm{R}\mathrm{b}$ and fermionic $^{40}\mathrm{K}$ atoms in their absolute ground states. Strong inelastic loss from an optically trapped mixture was observed at the resonance positions of 492, 512, and $543\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}2\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{G}$. The magnetic-field locations of these resonances place a tight constraint on the triplet and singlet cross-species scattering lengths, yielding $(\ensuremath{-}281\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}15){a}_{0}$ and $(\ensuremath{-}54\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}12){a}_{0}$, respectively. The width of the loss feature at 543 G is $3.7\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.5\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{G}$ wide; this broad Feshbach resonance should enable experimental control of the interspecies interactions.

Improved characterization of Feshbach resonances and interaction potentials between Na23 and Rb87 atoms

Zhichao Guo, Fan Jia, Bing Zhu +3 more

The ultracold mixture of $^{23}\mathrm{Na}$ and $^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ atoms has become an important system for investigating physics in Bose-Bose atomic mixtures and for forming ultracold ground-state polar molecules. In this work, we provide an improved characterization of the most commonly used Feshbach resonance near 347.64 G between $^{23}\mathrm{Na}$ and $^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ in their absolute ground states. We form Feshbach molecules using this resonance and measure their binding energies by dissociating them via magnetic-field modulation. We use the binding energies to refine the singlet and triplet potential-energy curves, using coupled-channel bound-state calculations. We then use coupled-channel scattering calculations on the resulting potentials to produce a high-precision mapping between magnetic field and scattering length. We also observe ten additional $s$-wave Feshbach resonances for $^{23}\mathrm{Na}$ and $^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ in different combinations of Zeeman sublevels of the $F=1$ hyperfine states. Some of the resonances show two-body inelastic decay due to spin exchange. We compare the resonance properties with coupled-channel scattering calculations that full take account of inelastic properties.
