Non-Markovian dynamics of charge carriers in quantum dots

Abstract

We have investigated the dynamics of bound particles in multilevel current-carrying quantum dots. We look specifically in the regime of resonant tunnelling transport, where several channels are available for transport. Through a non-Markovian formalism under the Born approximation, we investigate the real-time evolution of the confined particles including transport-induced decoherence and relaxation. In the case of a coherent superposition between states with different particle number, we find that a Fock-space coherence may be preserved even in the presence of tunneling into and out of the dot. Real-time results are presented for various asymmetries of tunneling rates into different orbitals.

Relaxation dynamics in correlated quantum dots

Sabine Andergassen, Dirk Schuricht, Mikhail Pletyukhov +1 more

We study quantum many-body effects on the real-time evolution of the current through quantum dots. By using a non-equilibrium renormalization group approach, we provide analytic results for the relaxation dynamics into the stationary state and identify the microscopic cutoff scales that determine the transport rates. We find rich non-equilibrium physics induced by the interplay of the different energy scales. While the short-time limit is governed by universal dynamics, the long-time behavior features characteristic oscillations as well as an interplay of exponential and power-law decay.

Time-dependent single-electron transport through quantum dots

T. Fujisawa, T. Hayashi, Satoshi Sasaki

We describe time-dependent single-electron transport through quantum dots in the Coulomb blockade regime. Coherent dynamics of a single charge qubit in a double quantum dot is discussed with full one-qubit manipulation. Strength of decoherence is controlled with the applied voltage, but uncontrolled decoherence arises from electron–phonon coupling and background fluctuations. Then energy-relaxation dynamics is discussed for orbital and spin degree of freedom in a quantum dot. The electron–phonon interaction and spin–orbit coupling can be investigated as the dissipation problem. Finally, charge detection measurement is presented for statistical analysis of single-electron tunnelling transitions and for a sensitive qubit read-out device.

Non-Markovian decoherence theory for a double-dot charge qubit

Matisse Wei-Yuan Tu, Wei-Min Zhang

In this paper, we develop a nonperturbation theory for describing decoherence dynamics of electron charges in a double quantum dot gated by electrodes. We extend the Feynman-Vernon influence functional theory to fermionic environments and derive an exact master equation for the reduced density matrix of electrons in the double dot for a general spectral density at arbitrary temperature and bias. We then investigate the decoherence dynamics of the double-dot charge qubit with backreaction of the reservoirs being fully taken into account. Time-dependent fluctuations and leakage effects induced from the dot-reservoir coupling are explicitly explored. The charge qubit dynamics from the Markovian to non-Markovian regime is systematically studied under various manipulating conditions. The decay behavior of charge qubit coherence and the corresponding relaxation time ${T}_{1}$ and dephasing time ${T}_{2}$ are analyzed in detail.

Noise spectrum of quantum transport through quantum dots: a combined effect of non-Markovian and cotunneling processes

Jinshuang Jin, Wei-Min Zhang, Xin-Qi Li +1 more

Based on our recently developed quantum transport theory in term of an exact master equation, the corresponding particle-number resolved ($n$-resolved) master equation and the related shot noise spectrum formalism covering the full frequency range are constructed. We demonstrate that the noise spectra of transport current through single quantum dot and double quantum dots show characteristic steps and/or peak-dips in different tunneling frequency regimes through tuning the applied bias voltage and/or gate voltage at low temperatures. The peak-dips crossing the tunneling resonant frequencies is a combination effect of non-Markovian and cotunneling processes. These voltage-dependent tunneling resonance characteristics can be utilized to effectively modulate the internal Rabi resonance signature in the noise spectrum.

Entanglement and Quantum Coherence in Coupled Double Quantum Dots under Markovian and Non-Markovian Noisy Channels

Omar Bachain, Mohamed Amazioug, Nawal K. Almaymoni +3 more

Quantum dots are nanometer-scale semiconductor particles that exhibit size-dependent quantum mechanical properties. In this work, we investigate the dynamics of quantum correlations, quantified by the concurrence and the quantum coherence, in a bipartite system of coupled double quantum dots. The analysis is carried out within both Markovian and non-Markovian regimes, and further extended to different noisy quantum channels, including amplitude damping, phase flip, and phase damping. Our results show that environmental memory plays a crucial role in the preservation of quantum correlations, leading to oscillatory behavior and partial revivals in the non-Markovian regime, in contrast to the monotonic decay observed under Markovian dynamics. Moreover, distinct decoherence mechanisms induce qualitatively different effects: dissipative channels rapidly suppress correlations, while phase-based channels lead to either redistribution or gradual degradation. A key finding is that quantum coherence exhibits a higher robustness compared to entanglement under all considered conditions, highlighting its relevance as a reliable quantum resource in noisy environments. These results provide valuable insights into the control and protection of quantum correlations in realistic solid-state systems.

Non-Markovian suppression of charge qubit decoherence in the quantum point contact measurement

Ming‐Tsung Lee, Wei-Min Zhang

A nonequilibrium theory describing the charge qubit dynamics measured by a quantum point contact is developed based on Schwinger-Keldysh's approach. Using the real-time diagrammatic technique, we derive the master equation to all orders in perturbation expansions. The non-Markovian processes in the qubit dynamics is naturally taken into account. The qubit decoherence, in particular, the influence of the tunneling-electron fluctuation in the quantum point contact with a longer correlation time comparing to the time scale of the qubit dynamics, is studied in the framework. We consider the Lorentzian-type spectral density to characterize the channel mixture of the electron-tunneling processes induced by the measurement, and determine the correlation time scale of the tunneling-electron fluctuation. The result shows that as the quantum point contact is casted with a narrower profile of the spectral density, tunneling electrons propagate in a longer correlation time scale and lead to the non-Markovian processes of the qubit dynamics. The qubit electron in the charge qubit can be driven coherently. The quantum point contact measurement with the minimum deviation of the electron-tunneling processes prevents the qubit state from the decoherence.
