Measurable concurrence of mixed states

Abstract

We show that bipartite concurrence for rank-2 mixed states of qubits is written by an observable which can be exactly and directly measurable in experiment by local projective measurements, provided that four copies of the composite quantum system are available. In addition, for a tripartite quantum pure state of qubits, the 3-tangle is also shown to be measurable only by projective measurements on the reduced density matrices of a pair of qubits conditioned on four copies of the state.

Measurable entanglement for tripartite quantum pure states of qubits

Chang‐shui Yu, He‐Shan Song

We show that for tripartite quantum pure states of qubits, all the kinds of entanglement in terms of stochastic local operations and classical communications classification are experimentally measurable by simple projective measurements, provided that four copies of the composite quantum system are available. In particular, the entanglement of reduced density matrices, even though they are mixed states, can be exactly determined in experiment. Concurrence of assistance is also shown to be measurable by introducing an interesting equation with explicit physical meanings.

Measurable genuine tripartite entanglement of (2⊗2⊗n) -dimensional quantum states via only two simultaneous copies

Chang‐shui Yu, Bao-qing Guo, Si‐ren Yang

Usually, the three-tangle of a tripartite pure state of qubits can be directly measured with the simultaneous preparation of a not-less-than fourfold copy of the state. We show that the exact genuine tripartite entanglement for ($2\ensuremath{\bigotimes}2\ensuremath{\bigotimes}n$)-dimensional pure quantum states can be measured in a similar manner, provided that only two simultaneous copies of the state are available. Lower bounds are also proposed for more convenient experimental operations. As an example, a comprehensive demonstration of the scheme is provided for the three-tangle of a three-qubit state.

Measuring Multipartite Concurrence with a Single Factorizable Observable

Leandro Aolita, Florian Mintert

We show that, for any composite system with an arbitrary number of finite-dimensional subsystems, it is possible to directly measure the multipartite concurrence of pure states by detecting only one single factorizable observable, provided that two copies of the composite state are available. This result can be immediately put into practice in trapped-ion and entangled-photon experiments.

Direct measurement of concurrence for atomic two-qubit pure states

Guillermo Romero, C. E. López, F. Lastra +2 more

We propose a general scheme to measure the concurrence of an arbitrary two-qubit pure state in atomic systems. The protocol is based on one- and two-qubit operations acting on two available copies of the bipartite system, and followed by a global qubit readout. We show that it is possible to encode the concurrence in the probability of finding all atomic qubits in the ground state. Two possible scenarios are considered: atoms crossing three-dimensional microwave cavities and trapped ion systems.

Experimental determination of entanglement for arbitrary pure states

Shao-Ming Fei, Ming‐Jing Zhao, Kai Chen +1 more

We present a way of experimentally determining the concurrence in terms of the expectation values of local observables for arbitrary multipartite pure states. Instead of the joint measurements on two copies of a state in the experiment for two-qubit systems [S. P. Walborn et al., Nature (London) 440, 20 (2006)], we only need one copy of the state in every measurement for any arbitrary dimensional multipartite systems, avoiding the preparation of twin states or the imperfect copy of the state.

Bipartite concurrence and localized coherence

Chang‐shui Yu, He‐Shan Song

Based on a proposed coherence measure, we show that the local coherence of a bipartite quantum pure state (coherence of its reduced density matrix) is exactly the same as the minimal average coherence with all potential pure-state realizations under consideration. In particular, it is shown that bipartite concurrence of pure states just captures the maximal difference between local coherence and the average coherence of one subsystem induced by local operations on the other subsystem with the assistance of classical communications, which provides an alternative operational meaning for bipartite concurrence of pure states. The relation between concurrence and the proposed coherence measure can also be extended to bipartite mixed states.
