Abstract

We propose a scheme for realizing nonlocal nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier by means of genuine four-mode entanglement. The nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier is regarded as a unitary transformation from two input fields to two outputs. Two inputs and two outputs are located at the remote stations, respectively. Employing off-line four-mode entanglement, homodyne detection, classical communication, and local displacement, the nonlocal nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier can be achieved. This scheme can be implemented with a setup that is experimentally accessible at present.

General Single-Mode Gaussian Operation with Two-Mode Entangled State

Shuhong Hao, Xianshan Huang, Dong Wang

Realizing the logic operations with small-scale states is pursued to improve the utilization of quantum resources and to simplify the experimental setup. We propose a scheme to realize a general single-mode Gaussian operation with a two-mode entangled state by utilizing only one nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier and by adjusting four angle parameters. The fidelity of the output mode can be optimized by changing one of the angle parameters. This scheme would be utilized as a basic efficient element in the future large-scale quantum computation.

Phase-sensitive manipulations of the two-mode entangled state by a type-II nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier inside an optical cavity

Haixia Chen, Jing Zhang

The quantum fluctuations and correlations of the output signal and idler beams from a type-II polarization nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier (NOPA) inside an optical cavity are investigated theoretically, which is driven by the different kinds of quantized fields such as the two-mode thermal field, the phase-conjugate state, and a pair of EPR beams at the signal and idler frequency. Spectral line shapes due to quantum interferences between the input quantum fields and the generated down-converted subharmonic fields of NOPA are studied by scanning the length of the NOPA cavity. The entanglement degree of the EPR entangled beams injected into the NOPA as signal and idler beams can be increased or decreased, which are realized by controlling the relative phase between the pump beam and the injected beams for the NOPA. The results demonstrate coherent phenomena of NOPA in the quantum regime and show phase-sensitive manipulations of quantum entanglement for quantum information processing.

Entanglement Swapping of Bright EPR Optical Beams

Jing Zhang

A scheme achieving quantum entanglement swapping between two pairs of bright EPR optical beams is theoretically proposed. Two pairs of coherent EPR beams are produced from two independent nondegenerate optical parametric amplifiers. The entanglement swapping is demonstrated by means of a half of each EPR beam. The measuring process entangles other two halves of EPR beams that have never directly interacted with each other. In the proposed system, the direct detection of Bell-states is applied instead of usual homodyne detetion. Due to that the local oscillator is not needed, the technic trouble for mode-matching is overcome and the efficiency of the detection can be increased in experiments.

Generation of broadband entangled light through cascading nondegenerate optical parametric amplifiers

Wen-ping He, Fuli Li

We consider a system consisting of $N$ nondegenerate optical parametric amplifiers (NOPAs) operating below threshold and linked with each other in a cascading way, each taking the output subharmonic fields from the previous one as the input fields. The entanglement properties of the subharmonic fields from these cascading nondegenerate optical parametric amplifiers (CNOPAs) are investigated. We find that, if the input subharmonic fields of the first NOPA in the cascading line are in the vacuum state, the output fields from the later NOPAs exhibit excellent broadband entanglement, and the entanglement frequency band is broadened notably with increased number of cascading NOPAs. We also discuss the application of the entangled light generated from the CNOPAs to broadband teleportation, and find that the maximum width of the fidelity spectrum of teleportation of broadband coherent states can be greatly broadened.

Continuous variable entanglement enhancement and manipulation by a subthreshold Type II optical parametric amplifier

Yana Shang, Xiaojun Jia, Yumei Shen +2 more

We experimentally demonstrate that the quantum entanglement between amplitude and phase quadratures of optical modes produced from a nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier (NOPA) can be enhanced and manipulated phase sensitively by means of another NOPA. When both NOPAs operate at deamplification, the entanglement degree is increased at the cavity resonance of the second NOPA. When the first NOPA operates at deamplification and the second one at amplification, the spectral features of the correlation variances are significantly changed. The experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical expectation.

Scheme for enhancing quadripartite entangled optical modes from an opto-mechanical system

Jing Zhang, Xiaoyu Liu, Rongguo Yang +1 more

Multipartite entanglement is a key resource for quantum information processing and quantum communication. We show that the robust entanglement among four filtered output optical modes can be achieved when there is a nonlinear crystal inside an optomechanical cavity. The optical parametric amplifier (OPA) gives rise to single-mode squeezing of the cavity modes; therefore, the entanglement among four output optical modes can be enhanced remarkably. Furthermore, the degree of quadripartite entanglement is influenced by the nonlinear gain of OPA and bandwidth of the filters. Large entanglement can be obtained by optimizing the filter functions, which is important for utilizing entangled light beams more efficiently in real experiments. This kind of multipartite entanglement will be useful and valuable in the area of quantum communication networks.
