Entanglement versus entropy for a class of mixed two-qutrit states

Abstract

We compute the measure of entanglement for some classes of states belonging to the simplex of Bell-diagonal states of two qutrits introduced by Baumgartner et al. [Phys. Rev. A 74, 032327 (2006)]. We discuss also partial characterization of that simplex in terms of negativity and linear entropy. A numerical exploration of the entropy-entanglement plane indicates that, in the analogy to the two-qubit case [Munro et al., Phys. Rev. A 64, 030302(R) (2001)], two-qutrit Werner states do not maximize entanglement for a given entropy.

Maximally entangled mixed states of two qubits

Frank Verstraete, Koenraad M. R. Audenaert, Bart De Moor

We consider mixed states of two qubits and show under which global unitary operations their entanglement is maximized. This leads to a class of states that is a generalization of the Bell states. Three measures of entanglement are considered: entanglement of formation, negativity, and relative entropy of entanglement. Surprisingly all states that maximize one measure also maximize the others. We give a complete characterization of these generalized Bell states and prove that these states for fixed eigenvalues are all equivalent under local unitary transformations. Furthermore we characterize all nearly entangled states closest to the maximally mixed state and derive a lower bound on the volume of separable mixed states.

Maximal entanglement versus entropy for mixed quantum states

Tzu-Chieh Wei, Kae Nemoto, Paul M. Goldbart +3 more

Maximally entangled mixed states are those states that, for a given mixedness, achieve the greatest possible entanglement. For two-qubit systems and for various combinations of entanglement and mixedness measures, the form of the corresponding maximally entangled mixed states is determined primarily analytically. As measures of entanglement, we consider entanglement of formation, relative entropy of entanglement, and negativity; as measures of mixedness, we consider linear and von Neumann entropies. We show that the forms of the maximally entangled mixed states can vary with the combination of (entanglement and mixedness) measures chosen. Moreover, for certain combinations, the forms of the maximally entangled mixed states can change discontinuously at a specific value of the entropy. Along the way, we determine the states that, for a given value of entropy, achieve maximal violation of Bell's inequality.

Entanglement detection: Linear entropy versus Bell-CHSH inequality

Satyabrata Adhikari

The relation between the violation of the Bell-CHSH inequalities and entanglement properties of quantum states is not clear so one may consider the mixedness of the system to understand the entanglement properties better than the Bell-CHSH inequality. In this respect, we prove that if the mixedness of the state measured by the linear entropy is less than 2/3 but strictly greater than zero then the two qubit states are entangled. But if the linear entropy is greater or equal to 2/3 then the state may or may not be entangled. Further we show that our entanglement criterion detects larger set of entangled state than Bell-CHSH inequality and Santos's entropic criterion [Phys. Rev. A 69, 022305 (2004)]. Lastly we illustrate our result by citing few examples.

Bound entanglement in the set of Bell-state mixtures of two qutrits

Reinhold A. Bertlmann, Philipp Krammer

We investigate the entanglement properties of a three-parameter family of states that are part of the magic simplex of two qutrits, which is a simplex of states that are mixtures of maximally entangled two-qutrit Bell states. Using entanglement witnesses, we reveal large regions of bound entangled and separable states.

Maximizing the entanglement of two mixed qubits

William J. Munro, Daniel F. V. James, Andrew G. White +1 more

Two-qubit states occupy a large and relatively unexplored Hilbert space. Such states can be succinctly characterized by their degree of entanglement and purity. In this article we investigate entangled mixed states and present a class of states that have the maximum amount of entanglement for a given linear entropy.

Relative Entropy of Entanglement of One Class of Two-Qubit System

Lin-Mei Liang, Ping‐Xing Chen, Cheng-Zu Li +1 more

The relative entropy of entanglement of a mixed state σ for a bipartite quantum system can be defined as the minimum of the quantum relative entropy over the set of completely disentangled states. Vedral et al. [Phys. Rev. A 57(1998)1619] have recently proposed a numerical method to obtain the relative entropy of entanglement E re for two-qubit systems. This letter shows that the convex programming method can be applied to calculate E re of two-qubit systems analytically, and discusses the conditions under which the method can be adopted.
