Relativistic Semiclassical Wave Equation and its Solution

M. N. Sergeenko

Published Dec 7, 1997• 10 citations
arXivHTMLPDF

Abstract

The properties of relativistic particles in the quasiclassical region are investigated. The relativistic semiclassical wave equation appropriate in the quasiclassical region is derived. It is shown that the leading-order WKB quantization rule is the appropriate method to solve the equation obtained.

Semiclassical wave equation and exactness of the WKB method

М. Н. Сергеенко

The exactness of the semiclassical method for three-dimensional problems in quantum mechanics is analyzed. The wave equation appropriate in the quasiclassical region is derived. It is shown that application of the standard leading-order WKB quantization condition to this equation reproduces exact energy eigenvalues for all solvable spherically symmetric potentials. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

Semi-Classical Quantization for Multi-Dimensional Coupled-Channel Equation

Kazuhiro Yabana, H. Horiuchi

Multi-dimensional coupled-channel equation is treated by the WKB approximation for the main purpose of deriving the semi-classical quantization rule for it. A somewhat general type of the multi-dimensional coupled-channel Hamiltonian is presented which enables us to derive the semiclassical quantization rule for the energy spectra. As in the one-dimensional case, the WKB wave function has an additional phase besides the usual phase ∫Σpsdxs, and the quantization rule should include the contribution from this additional phase. The structure of the WKB wave function in the adiabatic representation is also discussed.

Dirac’s equation in semiclassical physics

Lee W. Casperson

Dirac's equation provides the most rigorous basis known for many calculations in relativistic quantum mechanics. A set of dynamical equations having greater intuitive content can be derived from Dirac's equation without any approximations. These secondary equations govern the properties of a Dirac particle as functions of time and space and are similar to the corresponding equations governing a classical charged fluid. Several new density functions are implied by these equations and are appropriate for incorporation into the various semiclassical models of physics.

Quantization of Reparametrized Systems Using the WKB Method

Khaled I. Nawafleh, Eqab M. Rabei, H. B. Ghassib

The quantization of reparametrized systems is discussed using the WKB approximation. The Hamilton-Jacobi function, the equations of motion and the wave function---which the conditions constrain in the semiclassical limit---are determined. The success of this approach is then demonstrated for two applications. The first is an illustrative example of nonrelativistic dynamics. The second is the well-known motion of a relativistic particle in an external electromagnetic field.

The semiclassical approximation for the Dirac equation.

A. F. Nikiforov, Nikolay Nikolaevich Fimin

Abstract: \n The possibility of transformation of the Dirac equation for central field standard form to the one, analogic to Scroedinger equation for each of radial parts components of wave function is considered. On this basis the conclusion about possibility of applicability of semiclassical approximation to the Dirac equation is obtained, its WKB solutions are calculated. The methods of solutions approximation in the neighborhood of turn points is analyzed, the validity of phase method [3] adaptability to receipt of semiclassical energy levels from Bohr-Sommerfeld condition is demonstrated.
