Abstract

In this paper we investigate the interaction of a single ion in a trap with laser beams. Our approach, based on unitary transformating the Hamiltonian, allows its exact diagonalization without performing the Lamb-Dicke approximation. We obtain a transformed Jaynes-Cummings-type Hamiltonian, and we demonstrate the existence of super-revivals in that system.

An analytical solution to the nonlinear model forNtrapped ions driven by a single laser field

Z J Wang

We have studied the nonlinear model for interaction of N ions in a trap with a laser beam. By applying two successive unitary transformations, this nonlinear quantum system can be transformed into the multi-levels Jayness–Cummings model. In the end, we can obtain an analytical solution to the two-ion system without performing the Lamb–Dicke approximation, and observe the super-revival phenomenon.

Unitary transformation approach for the trapped ion dynamics

H. M. Moya-Cessa, A. Vidiella-Barranco, José Antonio Roversi +1 more

We present a method of treating the problem of the interaction of a single trapped ion with laser beams based on successive applications of unitary transformations onto the Hamiltonian. This allows the diagonalization of the Hamiltonian, by means of recursive relations, without performing the Lamb-Dicke approximation.

Position-dependent dynamics of a trapped ion in a standing wave laser

Mao-Fa Fang

We have investigated the position-dependent dynamics of a trapped ion in a standing wave laser by transforming it to the Jaynes-Cummings-type system under the Lamb-Dicke limit. A variety of novel phenomena are exhibited, e.g. periodic collapse and revival features and long-time scaled revivals of the ionic inversion, depending on its position in the standing wave. Our result provides a way of producing a system equivalent to the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model in the trapped ion system, with its exact periodicities.

We have obtained a k-quantum nonlinear Jaynes-Cummings model for two trapped ions interacting with laser beams resonant to the kth red side-band of the centre-of-mass mode, far from the Lamb-Dicke regime. The exact analytic solution shows the existence of quantum collapses and revivals of the occupation of two atoms.
