Semiclassical Green functions in mixed spaces

Guangcan Yang

Abstract

Based on Maslov's multidimensional semiclassical theory, a semiclassical Green function in a mixed position-momentum space is derived, which can be used to locally fix the semiclassical divergency in singular regions in configuration or momentum space. It is shown that when a semiclassical Green function is transformed from one representation to another, its form is invariant. The mixed representation includes both coordinate and momentum representations of semiclassical Green functions as two special cases.

Semiclassical propagator and van Vleck determinant in a mixed position–momentum space

Guangcan Yang

In this paper a semiclassical propagator in a mixed position–momentum space is derived in the formalism of Maslov's multi-dimensional semiclassical theory. The corresponding mixed van Vleck determinant is also given explicitly. The propagator can be used to locally fix semiclassical divergences in singular regions of configuration space. It is shown that when a semiclassical propagator is transformed from one representation to another, its form is invariant.

Semiclassical construction of Green's functions for multidimensional systems with barrier tunneling

Kenneth G. Kay

We develop a treatment that divides phase space into regions bounded by surfaces and forms the energy-dependent semiclassical Green's function from short classical trajectory segments confined to the individual regions. We use this to generalize Bogomolny's quantization method to systems with barrier tunneling. Combined with an appropriate treatment of tunneling amplitudes, this yields a unified semiclassical framework that uses ordinary, real trajectories in classically allowed regions and imaginary-time trajectories in forbidden regions to obtain energies, decay rates, and wave functions for arbitrary states of multidimensional systems undergoing tunneling. Because the trajectory segments in the allowed region are short, components in the Green's function expression can be numerically evaluated using semiclassical initial value methods, yielding a promising approach for practical calculations.

Amplitude-free correlation function based on an algebra for coordinate transformation in semiclassical integrals

Kazuo Takatsuka

We present an algebra that facilitates a systematic coordinate transformation in semiclassical integrals such as those between the initial and final value representations. Applying this algebra to Maslov-type semiclassical wave packet theory [A. Inoue-Ushiyama and K. Takatsuka, Phys. Rev. A 59, 3256 (1999)], a semiclassical correlation function is extracted, which is free of the amplitude factor that suffers an exponential divergence in a chaotic system.

Semiclassical propagation: Phase indices and the initial-value formalism

Giuseppe Campolieti, Paul W. Brumer

Initial-value phase-space integral representations for a time-dependent propagator are obtained in the coordinate and momentum representations. To do so we first derive nonuniform semiclassical propagators for the various representations, obtaining the global-time semiclassical phase indices (Maslov indices) due to caustics. Results include readily implementable general phase index formulas for any type of caustic, including cases where the Morse index theorem is inapplicable. The method of obtaining the indices is general and based simply on concatenating uniform short-time propagators which also gives rise to alternative path-integral forms. Initial-value integral representations are then derived by introducing a method of extending short-time initial-value propagator formulas to global times via a simple stationary-phase asympotoic-equivalence approach. The integrals reduce to the nonuniform semiclassical propagators within the stationary-phase approximation, are uniform about caustics, and have integrand phases which properly account for the global-time phases in terms of appropriate Maslov indices. The initial-value integrals are also consistently derived via a canonical mapping procedure on the coordinate-space path integral. Initial-value integrals for time-dependent wave-function propgation are also given. Evaluation of the initial-value integral expressions do not require trajectory root searches for propagation.

Quantization in singular real polarizations: Kähler regularization, Maslov correction and pairings

João N. Esteves, José M. Mourão, João P. Nunes

We study the Maslov correction to semiclassical states by using a Kähler regularized BKS pairing map from the energy representation to the Schrödinger representation. For general semiclassical states, the existence of this regularization is based on recently found families of Kähler polarizations degenerating to singular real polarizations and corresponding to special geodesic rays in the space of Kähler metrics. In the case of the one-dimensional harmonic oscillator, we show that the correct phases associated with caustic points of the projection of the Lagrangian curves to the configuration space are correctly reproduced.

A generalized semiclassical expression for the eigenvalues of multiple well potentials

Fabiano M. Andrade, Bin Kang Cheng, Marcus W. Beims +1 more

From the poles of a generalized semiclassical Green's function we derive expressions for the eigenvalues of 1D multiple well potentials. In the case of asymmetric and symmetric double wells, we also obtain analytical formulae for, respectively, the shift and splitting of energies. Our results are better than some approximations in the literature because they take more properly into account the tunnelling through the barriers forming the multiple well and depend on energy-dependent Maslov indices. We illustrate the good numerical precision of the method by discussing some case tests on double wells.
