Quantization in singular real polarizations: Kähler regularization, Maslov correction and pairings

Abstract

We study the Maslov correction to semiclassical states by using a Kähler regularized BKS pairing map from the energy representation to the Schrödinger representation. For general semiclassical states, the existence of this regularization is based on recently found families of Kähler polarizations degenerating to singular real polarizations and corresponding to special geodesic rays in the space of Kähler metrics. In the case of the one-dimensional harmonic oscillator, we show that the correct phases associated with caustic points of the projection of the Lagrangian curves to the configuration space are correctly reproduced.

The Maslov correction in the semiclassical Feynman integral

P. A. Horváthy

Abstract The Maslov correction to the wave function is the jump of $$ \left( { - \frac{\pi } {2}} \right) $$ in the phase when the system passes through a caustic. This can be explained by studying the second variation and the geometry of paths, as conveniently seen in Feynman’s path integral framework. The results can be extended to any system using the semiclassical approximation. The 1-dimensional harmonic oscillator is used to illustrate the different derivations reviewed here.

The Schrödinger representation and its relation to the holomorphic representation in linear and affine field theory

Robert Oeckl

We establish a precise isomorphism between the Schrödinger representation and the holomorphic representation in linear and affine field theory. In the linear case, this isomorphism is induced by a one-to-one correspondence between complex structures and Schrödinger vacua. In the affine case we obtain similar results, with the role of the vacuum now taken by a whole family of coherent states. In order to establish these results we exhibit a rigorous construction of the Schrödinger representation and use a suitable generalization of the Segal-Bargmann transform. Our construction is based on geometric quantization and applies to any real polarization and its pairing with any Kähler polarization.

Semiclassical Green functions in mixed spaces

Guangcan Yang

Based on Maslov's multidimensional semiclassical theory, a semiclassical Green function in a mixed position-momentum space is derived, which can be used to locally fix the semiclassical divergency in singular regions in configuration or momentum space. It is shown that when a semiclassical Green function is transformed from one representation to another, its form is invariant. The mixed representation includes both coordinate and momentum representations of semiclassical Green functions as two special cases.

The Metaplectic Correction

N M J Woodhouse

Abstract The half-form bundles are also defined for complex polarizations. By including them in the quantization construction, we arrive at a more useful pairing, which can be applied to a much wider class of nonnegative polarizations. It seems to give the correct physical relationship between the wave functions in the Hilbert spaces of different polarizations. In the case of two Fock spaces, the new pairing is unitary. When P is complex, δp may be nontrivial, and its inclusion in the construction can modify quantization conditions and alter the form of the quantum observables. In the case of the harmonic oscillator, the modification is precisely that needed to get the correct zero-point energy (see §9.2).

Global, uniform semiclassical approximations for quantum systems on the half-line

John R. Klauder

Motivated by recent experiments on highly excited Rydberg atoms in electrically polarized states, we consider the semiclassical analysis of quantum systems defined on the interval $0<x<\ensuremath{\infty}$. Caustics plague the conventional approach, and Maslov's technique cannot be used. Instead we introduce an affine phase-space formulation that leads to a global, uniform semiclassical approximation to the wave function which fully captures the effects of caustics.

Abstract The Maslov correction to the wave function is the jump of (−π2) \left( { - \frac{\pi } {2}} \right) (−2π) in the phase when the system passes through a caustic. This can be explained by studying the second variation and the geometry of paths, as conveniently seen in Feynman’s path integral framework. The results can be extended to any system using the semiclassical approximation. The 1-dimensional harmonic oscillator is used to illustrate the different derivations reviewed here.
