Generation of single-mode intelligent states and an analytic approach to their quantum statistical properties

Abstract

We discuss a scheme for generation of single-mode photon states associated with the two-photon realization of the SU(1,1) algebra. This scheme is based on the process of non-degenerate down-conversion with the signal prepared initially in the squeezed vacuum state and with a measurement of the photon number in one of the output modes. We focus on the generation and properties of single-mode SU(1,1) intelligent states which minimize the uncertainty relations for Hermitian generators of the group. Properties of the intelligent states are studied by using a `weak' extension of the analytic representation in the unit disc. Then we are able to obtain exact analytical expressions for expectation values describing quantum statistical properties of the SU(1,1) intelligent states. Attention is mainly devoted to the study of photon statistics and linear and quadratic squeezing.

Two-mode intelligent SU(1,1) states

Christopher C. Gerry, R. Grobe

Using the two-mode realization of the su(1,1) Lie algebra, we define new states that equalize the su(1,1) uncertainty relation. We refer to these as two-mode intelligent SU(1,1) states. Due to strong correlations between modes, these states exhibit nonclassical properties such as sub-Poissonian statistics, violations of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality, squeezing in the superposition of the modes, and sum squeezing. We also study the phase distributions of the states and propose a mechanism by which they may be generated.

SU(2) and SU(1,1) algebra eigenstates: A unified analytic approach to coherent and intelligent states

Brif, C

We introduce the concept of algebra eigenstates which are defined for an arbitrary Lie group as eigenstates of elements of the corresponding complex Lie algebra. We show that this concept unifies different definitions of coherent states associated with a dynamical symmetry group. On the one hand, algebra eigenstates include different sets of Perelomov's generalized coherent states. On the other hand, intelligent states (which are squeezed states for a system of general symmetry) also form a subset of algebra eigenstates. We develop the general formalism and apply it to the SU(2) and SU(1,1) simple Lie groups. Complete solutions to the general eigenvalue problem are found in the both cases, by a method that employs analytic representations of the algebra eigenstates. This analytic method also enables us to obtain exact closed expressions for quantum statistical properties of an arbitrary algebra eigenstate. Important special cases such as standard coherent states and intelligent states are examined and relations between them are studied by using their analytic representations.

Non-classical Properties of Two-mode SU(1, 1) Coherent States

Luc Gilles, P. L. Knight

We examine the non-classical properties of two-mode coherent states based on different unitary irreducible representations of SU(1, 1). Such states are generated by the action of the two-mode squeezing operator on initial states of the field containing arbitrary numbers of photons in each of the two modes. If the initial state of the field is a two-mode vacuum state, the final state is of course the two-mode squeezed vacuum. An initial occupation generalizes the idea of a squeezed vacuum to the SU(1, 1) coherent states. We show that fields in such states have remarkable quantum properties such as sub-Poissonian statistics, violations of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality, strong correlations in the photon number fluctuations and squeezing. Using information theory formalism, we show that these coherent states are less correlated than the usual two-mode squeezed vacuum. Moreover, we show that an initial coherent amplitude contribution, in a large amplitude limit, can result in the reduction of correlations between modes.

On SU(1,1) intelligent coherent states

G. M. Abd Al-Kader, A.‐S. F. Obada

Generalized coherent states associated with SU(1,1) Lie algebra are reviewed. A state is called intelligent if it satisfies the strict equality in the Heisenberg uncertainty relation. The eigenvalue problem satisfied by intelligent states (IS) is solved. The IS associated with SU(1,1) Lie algebra are investigated. We have constructed some realizations for our results of IS, and some applications are discussed. Some nonclassical properties such as Glauber second-order correlation function, photon number distribution and squeezing are investigated.

Intelligent photon states associated with the Holstein - Primakoff realization of theSU(1,1) Lie algebra

Christopher C. Gerry, R. Grobe

We investigate the single-mode intelligent states associated with the Holstein - Primakoff realization of the SU(1,1) Lie algebra. These states can be shown to contract, under certain conditions, to the ordinary coherent or squeezed states in the limit of large Bargman index. We show that these states can have oscillatory photocount distributions, sub-Poissonian statistics and squeezing.

Analytic representations based on su(3) coherent states and Robertson intelligent states

Mohammed Daoud A

Robertson intelligent states which minimize the Schrödinger–Robertson uncertainty relation are constructed as eigenstates of a linear combination of Weyl generators of the su(3) algebra. The construction is based on the analytic representations of su(3) coherent states. New classes of coherent and squeezed states are explicitly derived.
