Abstract

We report on the experimental realization of a four-qubit linear cluster state via two photons entangled both in polarization and linear momentum. This state was investigated by performing tomographic measurements and by evaluating an entanglement witness. By use of this state we carried out a novel nonlocality proof, the so-called "stronger two observer all-versus-nothing" test of quantum nonlocality.

High fidelity, high count rate four qubit linear cluster states have been realized by using two photons that are entangled both in polarization and linear momentum. Their properties have been investigated by evaluating the entanglement witness and carrying out a "stronger two observer all versus nothing" test of quantum nonlocality. The experimental results concerning the realization of single qubit rotations demonstrates the feasibility of one-way quantum computation by using these states.

Experiments of quantum nonlocality with polarization-momentum entangled photon pairs

Giuseppe Vallone, Paolo Mataloni, F. De Martini +1 more

We present the results of some experimental tests of quantum nonlocality performed by two-photon states, entangled both in polarization and momentum, namely hyperentangled states and two-photon four-qubit linear cluster states. These states, which double the number of available qubits with respect to the standard two-photon entangled states, are engineered by a simple experimental method, which adopts linear optics and a single type I nonlinear crystal. The tests of local realism performed with these states represent a generalization of the Greenberger, Home, and Zeilinger (GHZ) theorem to the case of two entangled particles.

QUANTUM NONLOCALITY OF POLARIZATION-MOMENTUM HYPER-ENTANGLED STATES

We present two experimental tests of nonlocality, namely the Bell's inequalities and the "All Versus Nothing" (AVN) proof, performed with a two photon hyper-entangled state, entangled in polarization and momentum. These states, which double the extension of the available qubits, are engineered by a simple experimental method which uses linear optics and a single Type I nonlinear crystal. The AVN test of local realism represents a generalization of the GHZ to the case of two entangled particles and two observers.

Realization of the "all-versus-nothing" nonlocality test by adopting two-photon hyper-entanglement

We report the experimental realization and the characterization of polarization and momentum hyper-entangled two photon states, generated by a new parametric source of correlated photon pairs. By adoption of these states a successful ''all versus nothing'' test of quantum mechanics was performed. The two photon hyper-entangled states are expected to find at an increasing rate a widespread application in state engineering and quantum information. PACS: 03.67.-a, 03.67.Mn, 03.67.Hk, 42.65. Lm

Experimental Entanglement and Nonlocality of a Two-Photon Six-Qubit Cluster State

Raino Ceccarelli, Giuseppe Vallone, F. De Martini +2 more

We create a six-qubit linear cluster state by transforming a two-photon hyperentangled state in which three qubits are encoded in each particle, one in the polarization and two in the linear momentum degrees of freedom. For this state, we demonstrate genuine six-qubit entanglement, persistency of entanglement against the loss of qubits, and higher violation than in previous experiments on Bell inequalities of the Mermin type.

Optimal verification of entanglement in a photonic cluster state experiment

We report on the quantification of entanglement by means of entanglement measures on a four- and a six-qubit cluster state realized by using photons entangled both in polarization and linear momentum. This paper also addresses the question of the scaling of entanglement bounds from incomplete tomographic information on the density matrix under realistic experimental conditions.
