Simultaneous creations of discrete-variable entangle state and single-photon-added coherent state

Abstract

The single-photon-added coherent state (SPACS), as an intermediate classical-to-purely-quantum state, was first realized recently by Zavatta \emph{$et al.$} (Science 306, 660 (2004)). We show here that the success probability of their SPACS generation can be enhanced by a simple method which leads to simultaneous creations of a discrete-variable entangled state and a SPACS or even a hybrid-variable entangled SPACS in two different channels. The impacts of the input thermal noise are also analyzed.

Scheme for conditional generation of photon-added coherent state and optical entangled $W$ state

Yan Li, Hui Jing, Mingsheng Zhan

We propose a simple scheme to generate an arbitrary photon-added coherent state of a travelling optical field by using only a set of degenerate parametric amplifiers and single-photon detectors. Particularly, when the single-photon-added coherent state (SPACS) is observed by following, e.g., the novel technique of Zavatta \emph{$et al.$} (Science 306, 660 (2004)), we also obtain the generalized optical entangled $W$ state. Finally, a qualitative analysis of possible losses in our scheme is given.

Optical generation of a hybrid entangled state via an entangling single-photon-added coherent state

Yan Li, Hui Jing, Mingsheng Zhan

We propose a feasible scheme based on the nonlinear Mach–Zehnder interferometer to realize the optical entanglement of a single-photon-added coherent state and show that, besides the Sanders entangled coherent state, the entangled single-photon-added coherent state also leads to new forms of hybrid entanglement of the quantum Fock state and the classical coherent state. We probe the essential difference between two types of hybrid entangled states. This hybrid entangled state provides a novel link between the discrete-variable and the continuous-variable entanglement in a natural way. Finally, we give a qualitative analysis of the losses in our scheme.

Properties of hybrid entanglement between discrete- and continuous-variable states of light

L S Costanzo, Alessandro Zavatta, Samuele Grandi +5 more

We discuss some of the main features of a recently-generated form of hybrid entanglement between discrete- and continuous-variable states of light. Ideally, such a kind of entanglement should involve single-photon and coherent states as key representatives of the respective categories of states. Here we investigate the characteristics and limits of a scheme that, relying on a superposition of photon-creation operators onto two distinct modes, realizes the above ideal form of hybrid entanglement in an approximate way.

Photon-added coherent states in parametric down-conversion

S. Sivakumar

Photon-added coherent states have been realized in optical parametric down-conversion by Zavatta et al. [Science 306, 660 (2004)]. In this report, it is established that the states generated in the process are ideal photon-added coherent states. It is shown that the scheme can generate higher-order photon-added coherent states. A comparative study of the down-conversion process and atom-cavity interaction in generating the photon-added coherent states is presented.

Phase-matching quantum key distribution with the single-photon-added coherent source

Jiaao Li, Zhenhua Li, Zhongqi Sun +4 more

Increasing the bit rate and transmission distance of quantum key distribution (QKD) without quantum repeaters is a formidable challenge, which is limited by the secret-key capacity (SKC). Fortunately, phase-matching QKD (PM-QKD) can overcome this limitation by matching the phase of two coherent states and encoding the key information into the common phase. But the probability of the weak coherent source (WCS) sending a single photon is small, so studying the QKD of different signal sources is one of the effective ways to improve the performance of the QKD protocol. The single-photon-added coherent state (SPACS) has a high probability of sending single photons and is closer to an ideal single-photon source than WCS. We have done simulations combining the advantages of the source with the advantages of PM-QKD. Numerical simulations show that the SPACS-PM-QKD protocol also has the ability to break the SKC, and using the SPACS is better in terms of communication distance and key rate compared to WCS.

An optical scheme for conditional generation of W state and photon-added coherent state

Yan Li, Jing Hui, Mingsheng Zhan

We propose a simple scheme to generate an arbitrary photon-added coherent state of a travelling optical field by combining an array of degenerate parametric amplifiers and corresponding single-photon detectors. Particularly, when the single-photon-added coherent state is observed by developing the novel technique of Zavatta et al (2004 Science 306 660), we can simultaneously obtain the generalized N-qubit W state.
