Optical generation of a hybrid entangled state via an entangling single-photon-added coherent state

Abstract

We propose a feasible scheme based on the nonlinear Mach–Zehnder interferometer to realize the optical entanglement of a single-photon-added coherent state and show that, besides the Sanders entangled coherent state, the entangled single-photon-added coherent state also leads to new forms of hybrid entanglement of the quantum Fock state and the classical coherent state. We probe the essential difference between two types of hybrid entangled states. This hybrid entangled state provides a novel link between the discrete-variable and the continuous-variable entanglement in a natural way. Finally, we give a qualitative analysis of the losses in our scheme.

Properties of hybrid entanglement between discrete- and continuous-variable states of light

L S Costanzo, Alessandro Zavatta, Samuele Grandi +5 more

We discuss some of the main features of a recently-generated form of hybrid entanglement between discrete- and continuous-variable states of light. Ideally, such a kind of entanglement should involve single-photon and coherent states as key representatives of the respective categories of states. Here we investigate the characteristics and limits of a scheme that, relying on a superposition of photon-creation operators onto two distinct modes, realizes the above ideal form of hybrid entanglement in an approximate way.

Scheme for conditional generation of photon-added coherent state and optical entangled $W$ state

Yan Li, Hui Jing, Mingsheng Zhan

We propose a simple scheme to generate an arbitrary photon-added coherent state of a travelling optical field by using only a set of degenerate parametric amplifiers and single-photon detectors. Particularly, when the single-photon-added coherent state (SPACS) is observed by following, e.g., the novel technique of Zavatta \emph{$et al.$} (Science 306, 660 (2004)), we also obtain the generalized optical entangled $W$ state. Finally, a qualitative analysis of possible losses in our scheme is given.

Optical Generation of Single- or Two-Mode Excited Entangled Coherent States

Ren Zhen-Zhong, Jing Rui, Xianzhou Zhang

With nonlinear Mach-Zehnder interferometer (NLMZI) and a type-I beta-barium borate (BBO) crystal, we optically generate single-mode excited entangled coherent states. This scheme can be easily generalized to generate two-mode excited entangled coherent states. We simply analyse different influences of single- and two-mode photon excitations on entangled coherent states.

Engineering optical hybrid entanglement between discrete- and continuous-variable states

Kun Huang, Hanna Le Jeannic, Olivier Morin +4 more

Abstract The generation and manipulation of hybrid entanglement of light involving discrete- and continuous-variable states have recently appeared as essential resources towards the realization of heterogeneous quantum networks. Here we investigate a scheme for the remote generation of hybrid entanglement between particle-like and wave-like optical qubits based on a non-local heralding photon detection. We also extend this scheme with additional local or non-local detections. An additional local heralding allows the resulting state to exhibit a higher fidelity with the targeted entangled qubits while a two-photon non-local heralding detection gives access to a higher dimensionality in the discrete-variable subspace, resulting thereby in the generation of hybrid entangled qutrits. The implementation of the presented schemes, in combination with ongoing works on high-fidelity quantum state engineering, will provide novel non-classical light sources for the development of optical hybrid architectures.

Simultaneous creations of discrete-variable entangle state and single-photon-added coherent state

Yan Li, Hui Jing, Mingsheng Zhan

The single-photon-added coherent state (SPACS), as an intermediate classical-to-purely-quantum state, was first realized recently by Zavatta \emph{$et al.$} (Science 306, 660 (2004)). We show here that the success probability of their SPACS generation can be enhanced by a simple method which leads to simultaneous creations of a discrete-variable entangled state and a SPACS or even a hybrid-variable entangled SPACS in two different channels. The impacts of the input thermal noise are also analyzed.

Hybrid Entanglement between Optical Discrete Polarizations and Continuous Quadrature Variables

Jianming Wen, Irina V. Novikova, Chen Qian +2 more

By coherently combining advantages while largely avoiding limitations of two mainstream platforms, optical hybrid entanglement involving both discrete and continuous variables has recently garnered widespread attention and emerged as a promising idea for building heterogenous quantum networks. In contrast to previous results, here we propose a new scheme to remotely generate hybrid entanglement between discrete polarization and continuous quadrature optical qubits heralded by two-photon Bell-state measurement. As a novel nonclassical light resource, we further use it to discuss two examples of ways—entanglement swapping and quantum teleportation—in which quantum information processing and communications could make use of this hybrid technique.
