Abstract

We solve the problem of the temporal evolution of one of two modes embedded in the same dissipative environment and investigate the role of the losses after the preparation of a coherent state in only one of the two modes. Based on the current cavity QED technology, we present a calculation of the fidelity of a superposition of coherent states engineered in a bimodal high- Q cavity. Our calculation demonstrates that the engineered superposition retains coherence for large times when the mean photon number of the prepared mode is of the order of unity.

Accuracy of a teleported trapped field state inside a single bimodal cavity

Iara P. de Queirós, Simone Souza, Wesley Bueno Cardoso +1 more

We propose a simplified scheme to teleport a superposition of coherent states from one mode to another of the same bimodal lossy cavity. Based on current experimental capabilities, we present a calculation of the fidelity that can be achieved, demonstrating accurate teleportation if the mean photon number of each mode is at most $1.5$. Our scheme applies as well for teleportation of coherent states from one mode of a cavity to another mode of a second cavity, when both cavities are embedded in a common reservoir.

Dissipative quantum-light-field engineering

Martin Kiffner, U. Dorner, Dieter Jaksch

We put forward a dissipative preparation scheme for strongly correlated photon states. Our approach is based on a two-photon loss mechanism that is realized via a single four-level atom inside a bimodal optical cavity. Each elementary two-photon emission event removes one photon out of each of the two modes. The dark states of this loss mechanism are given by NOON states and arbitrary superpositions thereof. We find that the steady state of the two cavity modes exhibits entanglement and, for certain parameters, a mixture of two coherent entangled states is produced. We discuss how the quantum correlations in the cavity modes and the output fields can be measured.

Scheme for Generation of Entanglement among Bimodal Cavities

Song Xin-Guo, Feng Xun-Li

We present a scheme for generation of an entangled state in many spatially separated bimodal cavity modes via cavity quantum electrodynamics. A V-type three-level atom, initially prepared in a coherent superposition of its excited states, successively passes through both the bimodal cavities. If the atom is measured in its ground state after leaving the last cavity, an entangled state of many cavity modes can be generated. The conditions to generate the maximally entangled state with unity probability are worked out.

Generation of a 4-qubit cluster of entangled coherent states in bimodal QED cavities

E. M. Becerra-Castro, Wesley Bueno Cardoso, Ardiley Torres Avelar +1 more

We propose a scheme to generate a 4-qubit cluster of entangled coherent states in bimodal QED cavities. The scheme employs a single two-level atom that interacts dispersively with cavity modes initially prepared in coherent states. The fidelity and success probability of the state preparation are obtained considering the influence of atomic velocity spread and atomic efficiency detection. The scheme is also generalized for higher order cluster states.

Nonclassical properties and generation of quantum superpositions of two coherent states

Anna Napoli, ANTONINO MESSINA

Nonclassical properties of a particular class of quantum superpositions of two coherent states of a single-mode quantized electromagnetic field are brought to light and discussed. A new and simple way of engineering such states is presented. Our proposal, developed in the context of micromaser theory, exploits the passage of one atom only through a high- Q bimodal cavity supporting two electromagnetic modes of different frequencies.
