Abstract

A ``quasideterministic'' scheme to generate a two-photon generalized binomial state in a single-mode high-$Q$ cavity is proposed. We also suggest a single-shot scheme to measure the generated state based on a probe two-level atom that ``reads'' the cavity field. The possibility of implementing the schemes is discussed.

Generation of Entangled Two-Photon Binomial States in Two Spatially Separate Cavities

Rosario Lo Franco, Giuseppe Compagno, ANTONINO MESSINA +1 more

We propose a conditional scheme to generate entangled two-photon generalized binomial states inside two separate single-mode high-Q cavities. This scheme requires that the two cavities are initially prepared in entangled one-photon generalized binomial states and exploits the passage of two appropriately prepared two-level atoms one in each cavity. The measurement of the ground state of both atoms is finally required when they exit the cavities. We also give a brief evaluation of the experimental feasibility of the scheme.

Generating and revealing a quantum superposition of electromagnetic-field binomial states in a cavity

Rosario Lo Franco, Giuseppe Compagno, ANTONINO MESSINA +1 more

We introduce the $N$-photon quantum superposition of two orthogonal generalized binomial states of an electromagnetic field. We then propose, using resonant atom-cavity interactions, nonconditional schemes to generate and reveal such a quantum superposition for the two-photon case in a single-mode high-$Q$ cavity. We finally discuss the implementation of the proposed schemes.

A scheme for generating two-photon and three-photon states of a cavity field using resonant single atoms

Shi-Biao Zheng

We propose a scheme for generating two-photon states for a cavity field. In the scheme the cavity initially contains a small coherent or thermal field. Then a resonant two-level atom is sent through the cavity. After an appropriate interaction time the atom is state-selectively measured, which may collapse the cavity field onto a two-photon state. A three-photon state of rather high fidelity can also be generated with a single atom.

Quasideterministic Generation of Entangled Atoms in a Cavity

Jongcheol Hong, Hai-Woong Lee

We present a scheme to generate a maximally entangled state of two three-level atoms in a cavity. The success or failure of the generation of the desired entangled state can be determined by detecting the polarization of the photon leaking out of the cavity. With the use of an automatic feedback, the success probability of the scheme can be made to approach unity.

Photon-number-state generation with a single two-level atom in a cavity: a proposal

P. Domokos, M. Brune, J. M. Raimond +2 more

A single two-level atom can be used to prepare an arbitrary photon number state (Fock state) in a high Q cavity . The atom undergoes a controlled succession of interactions with two cavity modes. One of them contains a coherent field. The atom transfers photons one by one from this field to the initially empty second mode. The scheme can be extended to prepare a quantum superposition of the vacuum with a Fock state, a highly non-classical situation. We discuss the feasibility of the experiment with our present Rydberg-atom cavity QED set-up.
