Abstract

We provide time-evolution operators, gauge transformations and a perturbative treatment for non-Hermitian Hamiltonian systems, which are explicitly time dependent. We determine various new equivalence pairs for Hermitian and non-Hermitian Hamiltonians, which are therefore pseudo-Hermitian and in addition in some cases also invariant under PT -symmetry. In particular, for the harmonic oscillator perturbed by a cubic non-Hermitian term, we evaluate explicitly various transition amplitudes, for the situation when these systems are exposed to a monochromatic linearly polarized electric field.

On the pseudo-Hermitian invariant method for the time-dependent Non-Hermitian Hamiltonians

Boubakeur Khantoul, Abdelhafid Bounames, Mustapha Maamache

We propose a scheme to deal with certain time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian operators $H(t)$ that generate a real phase in their time-evolution. This involves the use of invariant operators $I_{PH}(t)$ that are pseudo-Hermitian with respect to the time-dependent metric operator and which implies that the dynamics is governed by unitary time evolution. Furthermore, $H(t)$ is not generally quasi-Hermitian and does not define an observable of the system but $I_{PH}(t)$ obeys a quasi-hermiticity transformation as in the completely time-independent Hamiltonian systems case. The harmonic oscillator with a time-dependent frequency under the action of a complex time-dependent linear potential is considered as an illustrative example.

On the η pseudo PT symmetry theory for non-Hermitian Hamiltonians: time-dependent systems

Mustapha Maamache

In the context of non-Hermitian quantum mechanics, many systems are known to possess a pseudo PT symmetry , i.e. the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian H is related to its adjoint H^{†} via the relation, H^{†}=PTHPT . We propose a derivation of pseudo PT symmetry and η -pseudo-Hermiticity simultaneously for the time dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonians by intoducing a new metric η(t)=PTη(t) that not satisfy the time-dependent quasi-Hermiticity relation but obeys the Heisenberg evolution equation. Here, we solve the SU(1,1) time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian and we construct a time-dependent solutions by employing this new metric and discuss a concrete physical applications of our results.

Time evolution of quantum systems with time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian and the pseudo Hermitian invariant operator

We study the time evolution of quantum systems with a time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian given by a linear combination of SU(1,1) and SU(2) generators. With a time-dependent metric, the pseudo-Hermitian invariant operator is constructed in the same manner as for both the SU(1,1) and SU(2) systems. The exact common solutions of the Schrödinger equations for both the SU(1,1) and SU(2) systems are obtained in terms of eigenstates of the pseudo-Hermitian invariant operator.

Non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with real eigenvalues coupled to electric fields: From the time-independent to the time-dependent quantum mechanical formulation

Carla Figueira de Morisson Faria, A. Fring

We provide a reviewlike introduction to the quantum mechanical formalism related to non-Hermitian Hamiltonian systems with real eigenvalues. Starting with the time-independent framework, we explain how to determine an appropriate domain of a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian and pay particular attention to the role played by PJ symmetry and pseudo-Hermiticity. We discuss the time evolution of such systems having in particular the question in mind of how to couple consistently an electric field to pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonians. We illustrate the general formalism with three explicit examples: (i) the generalized Swanson Hamiltonians, which constitute non-Hermitian extensions of anharmonic oscillators, (ii) the spiked harmonic oscillator, which exhibits explicit super-symmetry, and (iii) the −x 4-potential, which serves as a toy model for the quantum field theoretical ϕ4-theory.

Non-Hermitian Hamiltonian beyond PT symmetry for time-dependent S U ( 1 , 1 ) and S U ( 2 ) systems — Exact solution and geometric phase in pseudo-invariant theory

In this paper we investigate time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonians, which consist of SU(1,1) and SU(2) generators. The former Hamiltonian is PT symmetric but the latter one is not. A time-dependent non-unitary operator is proposed to construct the non-Hermitian invariant, which is verified as pseudo-Hermitian with real eigenvalues. The exact solutions are obtained in terms of the eigenstates of the pseudo-Hermitian invariant operator for both the SU(1,1) and SU(2) systems in a unified manner. Then, we derive the Lewis–Riesenfeld (LR) phase, which can be separated into the dynamic and the geometrical phases. The analytical results are well consistent with those of the corresponding Hermitian Hamiltonians reported in the literature.
