NONDEMOLITION PRINCIPLE OF QUANTUM MEASUREMENT THEORY

Abstract. We give an explicit axiomatic formulation of the quantum measurement theory which is free of the projection postulate. It is based on the generalized nondemolition principle applicable also to the unsharp, continuous– spectrum and continuous-in-time observations. The “collapsed state–vector” after the “objectification ” is simply treated as a random vector of the a posteriori state given by the quantum filtering, i.e., the conditioning of the a priori induced state on the corresponding reduced algebra. The nonlinear phenomenological equation of “continuous spontaneous localization ” has been derived from the Schrödinger equation as a case of the quantum filtering equation for the diffusive nondemolition measurement. The quantum theory of measurement and filtering suggests also another type of the stochastic equation for the dynamical theory of continuous reduction, corresponding to the counting nondemolition measurement, which is more relevant for the quantum experiments. 1. Quantum nondemolition measurements: the route from toys to tools

Vladimir B. Braginsky, Farid Ya Khalili

The history of the theory of quantum nondemolition (QND) measurements from the 1920s until today is reviewed. The definition and main principles of QND measurements are outlined. Achievements in the experimental realization of QND measurements and several new promising schemes of QND measurements are described. A list of the most important problems (from the authors' point of view) in the area of QND measurements is presented. The problem of measurement of a quantum oscillator phase is considered. A new method of phase measurement is proposed. Examples of possible solutions of fundamental physical problems using QND methods are given.

Application of quantum nondemolition measurement in quantum optical communication

Guoxi Fang, Yancheng Zhao

In this paper, the method will be introduced, it's called Quantum Nondemolition measurement. The purpose is to realize a new measuring method to surpass quantum limit. It provides a new method of overcoming quantum noise. In principle, it can use any precision to detect a certain weak signal. Finally, the application of QND Measurement in optical communication will be introduced.
