Realistic Picture of 2D Harmonic Oscillator Coherent States

Abstract

We show that a 2D harmonic oscillator coherent state is a soliton which has the same evolution as a spinning top: the center of mass follows a classical trajectory and the particle rotates around its center of mass in the same direction as its spin with the harmonic oscillator frequency.

Angular Momentum and Energy Structure of the Coherent State of a 2D Isotropic Harmonic Oscillator

Yufeng Liu, Huo Wujun, Zeng Jinyan

The angular momentum structure and energy structure of the coherent state of a 2D isotropic harmonic oscillator were investigated. Calculations showed that the average values of angular momentum and energy (except the zero point energy) of this nonspreading 2D wave packet are identical to those of the corresponding classical oscillator moving along a circular or an elliptic orbit.

Quantum dynamics of the harmonic oscillator on a cylinder

K. Kowalski, Jakub Rembieliński

Evolution of coherent states is considered for a particle confined to a cylinder moving in a harmonic oscillator potential. Because of the discontinuous changes as time goes by of the phase representing the position of a particle on a parallel (circle) the trajectory pattern of quantum averages specifying coordinates on a cylinder is very complex and in some aspects resembles chaotic one.

Coherent states for the cranked harmonic oscillator

Mohammed A. Z. Habeeb

Exact coherent states for a particle moving in a cranked anisotropic harmonic oscillator potential are constructed and their properties investigated. It is found that although these states are not minimum-uncertainty states they give the exact classical motion. As an application, it is shown that these coherent states can be used to facilitate the derivation, in the semi-classical limit, of the equations of fluid dynamics in a rotating frame corresponding to a nucleon in a rotating nucleus.

Shape-invariant wave packets for three-dimensional harmonic oscillators

Frans Arickx, J. Broeckhove, Piet Van Leuven

It is shown that for a three-dimensional harmonic oscillator there exist families of Gaussian wave packets that retain their shape during the time evolution, i.e., the wave packet rotates around its center without spreading or deforming. This generalizes the concept of coherent vibrational motion to coherent rotational motion.

Dynamics of SU(1,1) coherent states driven by a damped harmonic oscillator

Christopher C. Gerry, Korman Philip, Edward R. Vrscay

We study the time evolution of SU(1,1) coherent states driven by a damped harmonic oscillator as described by the Kanai-Caldirola Hamiltonian. The coherence of these states is preserved and their time evolution is described by nonlinear ``classical'' equations. The trajectories of all SU(1,1) coherent states in phase space asymptotically approach a common point as t\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\infty}. In all cases, this approach is accompanied by a damping of the associated energy expectation value to zero.

Coherent state of the harmonic oscillator

Mohamedi Fard, M. H. S. Amin

In classical physics, for a harmonic oscillator with a certain energy, position and momentum oscillate in time sinusoidally. However, in a Quantum harmonic oscillator, the expectation of position and momentum operators at a given energy level (En) are both zero. So the two oscillators have different dynamics. However, under certain Quantum state, called Coherent state, the Quantum HO exhibits prominent classical behavior. The goal of my thesis is to find analytical solution of this state and discuss certain of its features.
