(1+1)-DIMENSIONAL DIRAC EQUATION WITH NON-HERMITIAN INTERACTION

Abstract

We study (1+1)-dimensional Dirac equation with non-Hermitian interactions, but real energies. In particular, we analyze the pseudoscalar and scalar interactions in detail, illustrating our observations with some examples. We also show that the relevant hidden symmetry of the Dirac equation with such an interaction is pseudo-supersymmetry.

PSEUDO-HERMITIAN INTERACTIONS IN DIRAC THEORY: EXAMPLES

Bhabani Prasad Mandal, Saurabh Gupta

We consider a couple of examples to study the pseudo-Hermitian interaction in relativistic quantum mechanics. Rasbha interaction, commonly used to study the spin Hall effect, is considered with imaginary coupling. The corresponding Dirac Hamiltonian is shown to be parity pseudo-Hermitian. In the other example we consider parity pseudo-Hermitian scalar interaction with arbitrary parameter in Dirac theory. In both cases we show that the energy spectrum is real and all the other features of nonrelativistic pseudo-Hermitian formulation are present. Using the spectral method, the positive definite metric operator (η) has been calculated explicitly for both the models to ensure positive definite norms for the state vectors.

Pseudo Hermitian Interactions in the Dirac Equation

Orlando Panella, Pinaki Roy

We consider a (2 + 1)-dimensional massless Dirac equation in the presence of complex vector potentials. It is shown that such vector potentials (leading to complex magnetic fields) can produce bound states, and the Dirac Hamiltonians are η-pseudo Hermitian. Some examples have been explicitly worked out.

Research Paper: Solution of the Dirac Equation for Pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian and Energy-levels Crossing

Zahra Bakhshi, Fereshte Soleimani, Sare Khoshdooni

In this paper, the relativistic Dirac equation in one dimension is investigated for a particle in an external electromagnetic field, with the property of position-dependent effective mass approximation (PDEM), in the absence of vector potential. By removing the lower spinor component and combining the pair of equations, a Schrödinger-like equation is obtained for the upper spinor component. Using canonical transformations and introducing two first-order Hermitian and anti-Hermitian differential operators, a formalism for pseudo-hermitic Hamiltonians with parity-time reversal symmetry (PT) has been obtained. Comparing the equation derived from pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian with the non-relativistic Schrödinger equation leads to a general formalism for one-dimensional solvable imaginary non-Hermitian potentials with real energy spectra. Also, using this process, the complex potentials of Pöschl-Teller and Scarf II with real energy spectra in Dirac equation with PDEM approximationand PT symmetry have been investigated and their application has been expressed. For some particular parameters we will see the phenomenon of energy-levels crossing. In fact, it means that energy levels disappear from the spectrum. Also, for the mentioned examples, potential figures are drawn.

Supersymmetry aspects of the Dirac equation in one dimension with a Lorentz scalar potential

Yukihisa Nogami, F. Masafumi Toyama

The Dirac equation in one dimension with a Lorentz scalar potential is associated with a supersymmetric pair of Schr\"odinger Hamiltonians ${\mathit{H}}_{1}$ and ${\mathit{H}}_{2}$. The ${\mathit{H}}_{1}$ and ${\mathit{H}}_{2}$ share the same energy spectrum and scattering phases. The shared spectrum includes the lowest states unless the Dirac equation allows a zero mode (a zero-energy bound state). This situation is unlike the common examples of supersymmetric quantum mechanics. The Dirac equation admits a zero mode only if the scalar potential has certain ``topology.'' Various such features are illustrated through explicit examples. In particular, the phase equivalence between ${\mathit{H}}_{1}$ and ${\mathit{H}}_{2}$ is exploited to construct transparent potentials for the Dirac equation in one dimension.

Supersymmetric Dirac Hamiltonians in ($$1+1$$) dimensions revisited

Georg Junker

Abstract The most general Dirac Hamiltonians in $$(1+1)$$ ( 1 + 1 ) dimensions are revisited under the requirement to exhibit a supersymmetric structure. It is found that supersymmetry allows either for a scalar or a pseudo-scalar potential. Their spectral properties are shown to be represented by those of the associated non-relativistic Witten model. The general discussion is extended to include the corresponding relativistic and non-relativistic resolvents. As example, the well-studied relativistic Dirac oscillator is considered and the associated resolved kernel is found in a closed-form expression by utilising the energy-dependent Green’s function of the non-relativistic harmonic oscillator. The supersymmetric quasi-classical approximation for the Witten model is extended to the associated relativistic model.
