Pseudo Hermitian Interactions in the Dirac Equation

Abstract

We consider a (2 + 1)-dimensional massless Dirac equation in the presence of complex vector potentials. It is shown that such vector potentials (leading to complex magnetic fields) can produce bound states, and the Dirac Hamiltonians are η-pseudo Hermitian. Some examples have been explicitly worked out.

PSEUDO-HERMITIAN INTERACTIONS IN DIRAC THEORY: EXAMPLES

Bhabani Prasad Mandal, Saurabh Gupta

We consider a couple of examples to study the pseudo-Hermitian interaction in relativistic quantum mechanics. Rasbha interaction, commonly used to study the spin Hall effect, is considered with imaginary coupling. The corresponding Dirac Hamiltonian is shown to be parity pseudo-Hermitian. In the other example we consider parity pseudo-Hermitian scalar interaction with arbitrary parameter in Dirac theory. In both cases we show that the energy spectrum is real and all the other features of nonrelativistic pseudo-Hermitian formulation are present. Using the spectral method, the positive definite metric operator (η) has been calculated explicitly for both the models to ensure positive definite norms for the state vectors.

$\mathcal {PT}$ symmetric Hamiltonian model and Dirac equation in 1+1 dimensions

Özlem Yeşiltaş

In this paper, we have introduced a symmetric non-Hermitian Hamiltonian model which is given as where ω and α are real constants, and are first-order differential operators. The Hermitian form of the Hamiltonian is obtained by suitable mappings and it is interrelated to the time-independent one-dimensional Dirac equation in the presence of position-dependent mass. Then, Dirac equation is reduced to a Schrödinger-like equation and two new complex non- symmetric vector potentials are generated. We have obtained a real spectrum for these new complex vector potentials using the shape invariance method. We have searched the real energy values using numerical methods for the specific values of the parameters.

$(1+1)$ dimensional Dirac equation with non Hermitian interaction

Anjana Sinha, Pinaki Roy

We study $(1+1)$ dimensional Dirac equation with non Hermitian interactions, but real energies. In particular, we analyze the pseudoscalar and scalar interactions in detail, illustrating our observations with some examples. We also show that the relevant hidden symmetry of the Dirac equation with such an interaction is pseudo supersymmetry.

Research Paper: Solution of the Dirac Equation for Pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian and Energy-levels Crossing

Zahra Bakhshi, Fereshte Soleimani, Sare Khoshdooni

In this paper, the relativistic Dirac equation in one dimension is investigated for a particle in an external electromagnetic field, with the property of position-dependent effective mass approximation (PDEM), in the absence of vector potential. By removing the lower spinor component and combining the pair of equations, a Schrödinger-like equation is obtained for the upper spinor component. Using canonical transformations and introducing two first-order Hermitian and anti-Hermitian differential operators, a formalism for pseudo-hermitic Hamiltonians with parity-time reversal symmetry (PT) has been obtained. Comparing the equation derived from pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian with the non-relativistic Schrödinger equation leads to a general formalism for one-dimensional solvable imaginary non-Hermitian potentials with real energy spectra. Also, using this process, the complex potentials of Pöschl-Teller and Scarf II with real energy spectra in Dirac equation with PDEM approximationand PT symmetry have been investigated and their application has been expressed. For some particular parameters we will see the phenomenon of energy-levels crossing. In fact, it means that energy levels disappear from the spectrum. Also, for the mentioned examples, potential figures are drawn.

Application of pseudo-Hermitian quantum mechanics to a complex scattering potential with point interactions

Hossein Mehri‐Dehnavi, Ali Mostafazadeh, Ahmet Batal

We present a generalization of the perturbative construction of the metric operator for non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with more than one perturbation parameter. We use this method to study the non-Hermitian scattering Hamiltonian H = p 2 /2 m + ζ − δ(x + α) + ζ + δ(x − α), where ζ ± and α are respectively complex and real parameters and δ(x) is the Dirac delta function. For regions in the space of coupling constants ζ ± where H is quasi-Hermitian and there are no complex bound states or spectral singularities, we construct a (positive-definite) metric operator η and the corresponding equivalent Hermitian Hamiltonian h . η turns out to be a (perturbatively) bounded operator for the cases where the imaginary part of the coupling constants have the opposite sign, ℑ(ζ + ) = −ℑ(ζ − ). This in particular contains the -symmetric case: ζ + = ζ* − . We also calculate the energy expectation values for certain Gaussian wave packets to study the nonlocal nature of h or equivalently the non-Hermitian nature of H . We show that these physical quantities are not directly sensitive to the presence of the -symmetry.
