WITNESSING ENTANGLEMENT OF EPR STATES WITH SECOND-ORDER INTERFERENCE

Magdalena Stobińska, Krzysztof Wódkiewicz

Published May 20, 2006• 5 citations
arXivHTMLPDF

Abstract

The separability of the continuous-variable EPR state can be tested with Hanbury-Brown and Twiss type interference. The second-order visibility of such interference can provide an experimental test of entanglement. It is shown that time-resolved interference leads to the Hong, Ou and Mandel deep, that provides a signature of quantum non-separability for pure and mixed EPR states. A Hanbury-Brown and Twiss type witness operator can be constructed to test the quantum nature of the EPR entanglement.

Witnessing entanglement with second-order interference

Second-order interference and Hanbury-Brown and Twiss--type experiments can provide an operational framework for the construction of witness operators that can test classical and nonclassical properties of a Gaussian squeezed state, and provide entanglement witness operators to study the separability properties of correlated Gaussian squeezed sates.

Witnessing Entanglement with Second-Order Interference and Stokes Parameters

Magdalena Stobińska, Krzysztof Wódkiewicz

Abstract. We propose to use Stokes parameter as an entanglement witness for correlated EPR mixed states of light. Such states can be generated with a beam splitter acting on two mixed squeezed states of light. Stokes witness operators are closely related to the Hanbury-Brown and Twiss interference and can be used to test entanglement in balanced homodyne experiments involving fluctuations of quantum quadratures of the electric field.

EPR experiments and Bell's inequality tests using type-II parametric down conversion

Yanhua H. Shih, Alexander V. Sergienko, T. B. Pittman +1 more

Simultaneous entanglement in spin and space-time of a two-photon quantum state generated in type-II spontaneous parametric down-conversion is demonstrated by the observation of quantum interference with 98% visibility in simple beam-splitter (Hanburry Brown-Twiss) anticorrelation and quantum beating experiments. The cancellation of two-photon probability amplitudes as a result of this double entanglement allow us to demonstrate two different types of Bell's inequality violations in one experimental setup.

Second-order fermionic interference with independent photons

Jianbin Liu, Hui Chen, Yu Zhou +3 more

The experimental study of second-order interference with fermions is much more difficult than that with bosons. Inspired by the conclusion that the behavior of two identical classical particles has exactly half fermionic and half bosonic characteristics [Phys. Rev. A88, 012130 (2013)PLRAAN1050-294710.1103/PhysRevA.88.012130], we have studied the second-order interference of fermions via the second-order interference of photons in Hanbury Brown–Twiss and Hong–Ou–Mandel interferometers, respectively. The experimental results are consistent with the theoretical predictions, which may serve as guidance for future interference experiments with fermions. The employed method offers an interesting and convenient way to study the coherence of fermions.

Two-Photon Entanglement and EPR Experiments Using Type-2 Spontaneous Parametric Down Conversion

Simultaneous entanglement in spin and space-time of a two-photon quantum state generated in type-2 spontaneous parametric down-conversion is demonstrated by the observation of quantum interference with 98% visibility in a simple beam-splitter (Hanburry Brown-Twiss) anticorrelation experiment. The nonlocal cancellation of two-photon probability amplitudes as a result of this double entanglement allows us to demonstrate two different types of Bell's inequality violations in one experimental setup.

Two particle interference: The Hanbury Brown Twiss and Hong Ou Mandel experiments

Christoph I Westbrook

I discuss two important quantum optics experiments which depend on two particle interference. In the years since their first demonstration many interesting and instructive variants have appeared, including the use of atoms instead of photons as the interfering particles. This chapter gives a pedagogical overview of some of these results and argues that the two effects are closely related.
