Abstract

We show that the metric operator for a pseudo-supersymmetric Hamiltonian that has at least one negative real eigenvalue is necessarily indefinite. We introduce pseudo-Hermitian fermion (phermion) and abnormal phermion algebras and provide a pair of basic realizations of the algebra of N = 2 pseudo-supersymmetric quantum mechanics in which pseudo-supersymmetry is identified with either a boson-phermion or a boson-abnormal-phermion exchange symmetry. We further establish the physical equivalence (non-equivalence) of phermions (abnormal phermions) with ordinary fermions, describe the underlying Lie algebras and study multi-particle systems of abnormal phermions. The latter provides a certain bosonization of multi-fermion systems.

Supersymmetric Extension of Non-Hermitian su(2) Hamiltonian and Supercoherent States

Omar Cherbal

A new class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with real spectrum, which are written as a real linear combination of su(2) generators in the form H = ωJ 3 + αJ -+ βJ + , α = β, is analyzed. The metrics which allows the transition to the equivalent Hermitian Hamiltonian is established.A pseudo-Hermitian supersymmetic extension of such Hamiltonians is performed. They correspond to the pseudo-Hermitian supersymmetric systems of the boson-phermion oscillators. We extend the supercoherent states formalism to such supersymmetic systems via the pseudo-unitary supersymmetric displacement operator method. The constructed family of these supercoherent states consists of two dual subfamilies that form a bi-overcomplete and bi-normal system in the boson-phermion Fock space. The states of each subfamily are eigenvectors of the boson annihilation operator and of one of the two phermion lowering operators.

Deconstructing non-Dirac–Hermitian supersymmetric quantum systems

Pijush K Ghosh

A method to construct a non-Dirac–Hermitian supersymmetric quantum system that is isospectral with a Dirac–Hermitian Hamiltonian is presented. The general technique involves a realization of the basic canonical (anti-)commutation relations involving both bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom in terms of non-Dirac–Hermitian operators which are Hermitian in a Hilbert space that is endowed with a pre-determined positive-definite metric. A pseudo-Hermitian realization of the Clifford algebra for a pre-determined positive-definite metric is used to construct supersymmetric systems with one or many degrees of freedom. It is shown that exactly solvable non-Dirac–Hermitian supersymmetric quantum systems can be constructed corresponding to each exactly solvable Dirac–Hermitian system. Examples of non-Dirac–Hermitian (i) non-relativistic Pauli Hamiltonian, (ii) super-conformal quantum system, and (iii) supersymmetric Calogero-type models admitting entirely real spectra are presented.

Construction of the metric and equivalent Hermitian Hamiltonian via SUSY transformation operators

V. V. Shamshutdinova

The metric operator, which is the basic ingredient for studying a quantum system described by a pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian, provides the necessary means for obtaining an equivalent description of the system using a Hermitian Hamiltonian. In the framework of supersymmetric quantum mechanics, we propose a method of constructing the metric operator and to obtain the Hermitian Hamiltonian equivalent to the given pseudo-Hermitian.

On the time-reversal symmetry in pseudo-Hermitian systems

B. Choutri, Omar Cherbal, F.-Z. Ighezou +1 more

In a recent paper [M. Sato, K. Hasebe, K. Esaki, and M. Kohmoto, Prog. Theor. Phys. 127, 937 (2012)] Sato and his collaborators established a generalization of the Kramers degeneracy structure to pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian systems, admitting even time-reversal symmetry, |$T^{2}=1$|. This extension is achieved using the mathematical structure of split-quaternions instead of quaternions, usually adopted in the case of Hermitian Hamiltonians with odd time-reversal symmetry, |$T^{2}=-1$|. Here we find that the metric operator for the pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian |$H$| that allows the realization of the generalized Kramers degeneracy is necessarily indefinite. We show that such |$H$| with real spectrum also possesses odd antilinear symmetry induced from the existing odd time-reversal symmetry of its Hermitian counterpart |$h$|, so that the generalized Kramers degeneracy of |$H$| is in fact crypto-Hermitian Kramers degeneracy. We study in greater detail a new example of the pseudo-Hermitian split-quaternionic four-level Hamiltonian system, which admits an indefinite metric operator and time-reversal symmetry and, as a consequence, a generalized Kramers degeneracy structure. We provide a complete solution of the eigenvalue problem, construct pseudo-Hermitian ladder operators closing the normal and abnormal pseudo-fermionic algebras, and show that this system fulfills a crypto-Hermitian degeneracy.

Exactly solvable non-Hermitian Jaynes–Cummings-type Hamiltonian admitting entirely real spectra from supersymmetry

Pijush K Ghosh

It is shown that for a given Hermitian Hamiltonian possessing supersymmetry, there is always a non-Hermitian Jaynes–Cummings-type Hamiltonian (JCTH) admitting entirely real spectra. The parent supersymmetric Hamiltonian and the corresponding non-Hermitian JCTH are simultaneously diagonalizable. The exact eigenstates of these non-Hermitian Hamiltonians are constructed algebraically for certain shape-invariant potentials, including a non-Hermitian version of the standard Jaynes–Cummings (JC) model for which the parent supersymmetric Hamiltonian is the superoscillator. It is also shown that a non-Hermitian version of the several physically motivated generalizations of the JC model admits entirely real spectra. The positive-definite metric operator in the Hilbert space is constructed explicitly along with the introduction of a new inner product structure, so that the eigenstates form a complete set of orthonormal vectors and the time evolution is unitary.

Pseudo-Hermiticity versus PT Symmetry: The structure responsible for the reality of the spectrum of a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian

Alí Mostafazadeh

We introduce the notion of pseudo-Hermiticity and show that every Hamiltonian with a real spectrum is pseudo-Hermitian. We point out that all the PT-symmetric non-Hermitian Hamiltonians studied in the literature belong to the class of pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonians, and argue that the basic structure responsible for the particular spectral properties of these Hamiltonians is their pseudo-Hermiticity. We explore the basic properties of general pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonians, develop pseudo-supersymmetric quantum mechanics, and study some concrete examples, namely the Hamiltonian of the two-component Wheeler-DeWitt equation for the FRW-models coupled to a real massive scalar field and a class of pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonians with a real spectrum.
