Abstract

We propose a robust scheme to generate multi-photon Fock states in an atom-maser-cavity system using adiabatic passage techniques and topological properties of the dressed eigenenergy surfaces. The mechanism is an exchange of photons from the maser field into the initially empty cavity by bichromatic adiabatic passage. The number of exchanged photons depends on the design of the adiabatic dynamics through and around the conical intersections of dressed eigenenergy surfaces.

Dynamical resonances and the topology of the multiphoton adiabatic passage

We analyze adiabatic transfer processes in two-level systems driven by bichromatic delayed laser pulses. We show that the robust transfer of atomic population and the exchange of momentum with the laser fields can be understood on the basis of topological properties of dressed energy surfaces that are determined by dynamical resonances. The analysis shows a topological quantization of the multiple absorption and emission of photons.

Preparation of photonic Fock state using bichromatic adiabatic passage under dissipative environment

Qizhe Hou, Wanli Yang, Mang Feng +1 more

We propose a potentially practical scheme for generating the controllable photonic Fock state in a cavity by using the bichromatic adiabatic passage technique in the atom–cavity–laser system under dissipative environment. By numerically simulating the quantum dynamics of the whole system, we demonstrate quantitatively that the maximal probabilities of the Fock state can be achieved by elaborately adjusting the peak amplitudes of the laser’s Rabi frequency and the detuning between the laser frequency and the atomic transition frequency. In addition, we have also shown that the atomic and cavity dissipations play different roles in the preparation of the Fock state inside the cavity. The experimental feasibility and challenge are justified using currently available technology.

Dynamic generation of maximally entangled photon multiplets by adiabatic passage

W. Lange, Harry J. Kimble

The adiabatic passage scheme for quantum state synthesis, in which atomic Zeeman coherences are mapped to photon states in an optical cavity, is extended to the general case of two degenerate cavity modes with orthogonal polarization. Analytical calculations of the dressed-state structure and Monte Carlo wave-function simulations of the system dynamics show that, for a suitably chosen cavity detuning, it is possible to generate states of photon multiplets that are maximally entangled in polarization. These states display nonclassical correlations of the type described by Greenberger, Horne, and Zeilinger (GHZ). An experimental scheme to realize a GHZ measurement using coincidence detection of the photons escaping from the cavity is proposed. The correlations are found to originate in the dynamics of the adiabatic passage and persist even if cavity decay and GHZ state synthesis compete on the same time scale. Beyond entangled field states, it is also possible to generate entanglement between photons and the atom by using a different atomic transition and initial Zeeman state.

Generation of Fock state and quantum entanglement in a coupled ladder atom cavity system

Shangqing Gong, Xun‐Li Feng, Zhizhan Xu

We investigate the behaviour of an atom–cavity system via an adiabatic passage technique using a three-level ladder atom both for one-mode and for two-mode cavity QED. For one-mode cavity QED, we find that a single-photon Fock state can be generated via the technique of stimulated Raman adiabatic passage in the microwave domain. For two-mode cavity QED, we find that a two-photon pair can be generated via the technique of Stark shift rapid adiabatic passage (SRAP). We also find, for the two-mode cavity QED system, that an entangled state of the two modes in a microwave cavity can be prepared via the SRAP technique, in which the number of steps required is significantly reduced due to the adiabatic passage of the ladder atom–cavity coupled system.

Robust Generation of Topological Biphoton Mode via Adiabatic Passage

Jaesung Lim, Jihwan Kim, Dong-Gil Im +4 more

Topological waveguide arrays support robust mode propagation in the presence of fabrication imperfections, providing a significant advantage for on-chip quantum information processing. However, this robustness does not fully extend to nonlinear biphoton generation. Structural disorder can enhance the excitation of non-topological biphoton modes during nonlinear interactions, which degrades the quantum properties of the generated state. To overcome this limitation, we propose an adiabatic passage that connects an isolated site to a topological defect array. By initiating the nonlinear process in a strongly isolated regime, nonlinear coupling to unwanted modes is effectively suppressed, thereby preserving the Schmidt number of the generated state. The subsequent adiabatic connection facilitates the high fidelity transfer of the generated biphoton into the topological biphoton mode. Our numerical simulations demonstrate that, unlike conventional topological structures, the adiabatic scheme maintains both high biphoton fidelity and a unit Schmidt number in the presence of waveguide gap disorder. Furthermore, we show that this robustness extends to path entangled NOON states, achieving a near-unity quantum interference visibility. Our approach provides a practical design strategy for disorder-tolerant integrated quantum photonic devices.

Superposition of Fock states via adiabatic passage in a coupled four-level atom–cavity system

Gong Shang-Qing, Jin Shi-Qi, Ruxin Li +2 more

We have investigated the behaviour of an atom–cavity system via a stimulated Raman adiabatic passage technique in a four-level system, in which two dark states are present. We find, because of the coherent control field, that a superposition of Fock states can be prepared, even when the cavity is initially not in its vacuum state. This method provides a way to generate arbitrary quantum states of a cavity field.
