Unconditional Preparation of Entanglement between Atoms in Cascaded Optical Cavities

Abstract

We propose a scheme to unconditionally entangle the internal states of atoms trapped in separate high-finesse optical cavities. The scheme uses the technique of quantum reservoir engineering in a cascaded cavity-QED setting, and for ideal (lossless) coupling between the cavities generates an entangled pure state. Highly entangled states are also shown to be possible for realizable cavity-QED parameters and with nonideal coupling.

Entanglement and Entropy Engineering of Atomic Two-Qubit States

Stephen Clark, A. S. Parkins

We propose a scheme employing quantum-reservoir engineering to controllably entangle the internal states of two atoms trapped in a high-finesse optical cavity. Using laser and cavity fields to drive two separate Raman transitions between stable atomic ground states, a system is realized corresponding to a pair of two-state atoms coupled collectively to a squeezed reservoir. Phase-sensitive reservoir correlations lead to entanglement between the atoms, and, via local unitary transformations and adjustment of the degree and purity of squeezing, one can prepare entangled mixed states with any allowed combination of linear entropy and entanglement of formation.

Unconditional Two-Mode Squeezing of Separated Atomic Ensembles

A. S. Parkins, E. Solano, J. I. Cirac

We propose schemes for the unconditional preparation of a two-mode squeezed state of effective bosonic modes realized in a pair of atomic ensembles interacting collectively with optical cavity and laser fields. The scheme uses Raman transitions between stable atomic ground states and under ideal conditions produces pure entangled states in the steady state. The scheme works both for ensembles confined within a single cavity and for ensembles confined in separate, cascaded cavities.

Preparation of Cluster States of Atomic Qubits in Cavity QED

Yu Guo, Deng Hong-Liang

We propose an optical scheme to generate cluster states of atomic qubits, with each trapped in separate optical cavity, via atom-cavity-laser interaction. The quantum information of each qubit is encoded on the degenerate ground states of the atom, hence the entanglement between them is relatively stable against spontaneous emission. A single-photon source and two classical fields are employed in the present scheme. By controlling the sequence and time of atom-cavity-laser interaction, we show that the atomic cluster states can be produced deterministically.

Quantum Information Processing and Cavity QED

Christian Schön

This work is about the prospects provided by atoms coupled to optical cavities for the realization of concepts from the field of quantum information theory. In the first part we present a scheme for trapping an atom in its ground state in a cavity, which is basically in the vacuum state. Therefore losses are strongly suppressed. In the second part we investigate the generation of entangled qubits by the sequential coupling of an ancillary system to initially uncorrelated qubits. We characterize all achievable states and give a recipe for the generation on demand of an arbitrary state. In particular we discuss the case of an atom coupled to a cavity as a source. Finally we turn to collective effects in a system of many atoms coupled to the same mode of a cavity and show that they are suitable for the preparation of the atoms in an entangled state.

Efficient Scheme for Entangling Two Distant Atoms

LU Dao-ming, Zheng Shi-Biao

A scheme is presented for the generation of entangled states for two atoms trapped in two distant cavities. In the scheme each atom is resonantly coupled with the respective cavity mode and driven by a strong classical field. The detection of a photon decaying from the cavities and passing through a beam-splitter collapses the atoms to an entangled state. The required atom-field interaction time is very short and thus the decoherence effect is suppressed. Our scheme is within the reach of presently available cavity QED techniques.

Engineering steady-state entanglement via dissipation in coupled cavities

Zhao Jin, Shi‐Lei Su, Ai‐Dong Zhu +2 more

Abstract We present a scheme for the dissipative preparation of an entangled steady state between two atomic qubits separately trapped in the coupled cavities. The combination of coherent driving fields and dissipative processes will drive the system into a steady state. By choosing different frequency of classical laser field, the target steady state can be generated in different ways. In our scheme, the atomic spontaneous emission and the cavity decay can be used as a prerequisite. The numerical simulation shows that the maximally entangled state with high fidelity and purity can be produced regardless of the initial state. The fidelity is insensitive to the fluctuation of the system parameters.
