A criterion for testing multi-particle NPT entanglement

Abstract

We revisit the criterion of multi-particle entanglement based on the overlaps of a given quantum state $ρ$ with maximally entangled states. For a system of $m$ particles, each with $N$ distinct states, we prove that $ρ$ is $m$-particle negative partial transpose (NPT) entangled, if there exists a maximally entangled state $|{\rm MES}>$, such that $>{1}/{N}$. While this sufficiency condition is weaker than the Peres-Horodecki criterion in all cases, it applies to multi-particle systems, and becomes especially useful when the number of particles ($m$) is large. We also consider the converse of this criterion and illustrate its invalidity with counter examples.

Criterion for testing multiparticle negative-partial-transpose entanglement

Bei Zeng, Di Zhou, Peng Zhang +2 more

We revisit the criterion of multiparticle entanglement based on the overlaps of a given quantum state $\ensuremath{\rho}$ with maximally entangled states. For a system of m particles, each with N distinct states, we prove that $\ensuremath{\rho}$ is m-particle negative partial transpose entangled, if there exists a maximally entangled state $|\mathrm{MES}〉,$ such that $〈\mathrm{MES}|\ensuremath{\rho}|\mathrm{MES}〉>1/N.$ While this sufficiency condition is weaker than the Peres-Horodecki criterion in all cases, it applies to multi-particle systems, and becomes especially useful when the number of particles (m) is large. We also consider the converse of this criterion and illustrate its invalidity with counter examples.

NPT Bound Entanglement- The Problem Revisited

Indrani Chattopadhyay, Debasis Sarkar

Recently [quant-ph/0608250] again created a lot of interest to prove the existence of bound entangled states with negative partial transpose (NPT) in any $d \times d (d \geq 3)$ Hilbert space. However the proof in quant-ph/0608250 is not complete but it shows some interesting properties of the Schmidt rank two states. In this work we are trying to probe the problem in a different angle considering the work by Dür et.al [Phys. Rev. A, 61, 062313(2000)]. We have assumed that the Schmidt rank two states should satisfy some bounds. Under some assumptions with these bounds one could prove the existence of NPT bound entangled states. We particularly discuss the case of two copy undistillability of the conjectured family of NPT states. Obviously the class of NPT bound entangled states belong to the class of conjectured to be bound entangled states by Divincenzo et.al [Phys. Rev. A, 61, 062312(2000)] and by Dür et.al [Phys. Rev. A, 61, 062313(2000)]. However the problem of existence of NPT bound entangled states still remain open.

Entanglement criterion for multipartite systems based on quantum Fisher information

Y. Akbari-Kourbolagh, M. Azhdargalam

We propose a sufficient entanglement criterion for the multipartite systems based on quantum Fisher information. It complements the well-established positive partial transpose criterion in the sense that it is also able to detect bound entangled states. Moreover, it improves the well-known upper bound on the quantum Fisher information of separable multiqudit states introduced by Toth et al. [G. Toth and T. Vertesi, Phys. Rev. Lett. 120, 020506 (2018)] and hence detects a greater number of metrologically useful entangled states. This criterion is formulated as a simple inequality which must be fulfilled by the quantum Fisher information of separable states of multipartite systems. Violation of this inequality by a state reveals its entanglement and accordingly confirms its usefulness for quantum metrology. The efficiency of this criterion for detection of entanglement is illustrated through some examples.

Searching for highly entangled multi-qubit states

Iain D K Brown, Susan Stepney, Anthony Sudbery +1 more

We present a simple numerical optimization procedure to search for highly entangled states of 2, 3, 4 and 5 qubits. We develop a computationally tractable entanglement measure based on the negative partial transpose criterion, which can be applied to quantum systems of an arbitrary number of qubits. The search algorithm attempts to optimize this entanglement cost function to find the maximal entanglement in a quantum system. We present highly entangled 4-qubit and 5-qubit states discovered by this search. We show that the 4-qubit state is not quite as entangled, according to two separate measures, as the conjectured maximally entangled Higuchi–Sudbery state. Using this measure, these states are more highly entangled than the 4-qubit and 5-qubit GHZ states. We also present a conjecture about the NPT measure, inspired by some of our numerical results, that the single-qubit reduced states of maximally entangled states are all totally mixed.

Finer Characterizations of Pure Bipartite Entanglement

Che-Hsu Li

A new criterion necessary and sufficient for the separability of pure bipartite systems for arbitrary finite dimensions is demonstrated; and the corresponding finer quantitative measures or characterizations of entanglement (beyond mere separability or non-separability determination) are discussed. Based on this criterion, we proved that the well-known Peres-Horodecki positivity-of-partial-transform criterion is also necessary and sufficient for separability in the case of pure bipartite systems. The maximum value of entanglement, and the corresponding maximally-entangled states are also worked out in detail.

Bound Entangled States With Negative Partial Transpose Exist

Indrani Chattopadhyay, D. Sarkar

We prove the existence of bound entangled states with negative partial transpose (NPT) in any d × d(d ≥ 3) Hilbert space with a simple assumption on Schmidt rank two states. Obviously they belong to the class of conjectured to be bound entangled states by Divincenzo et.al [Phys. Rev. A, 61, 062312(2000)] and by Dür et.al [Phys. Rev. A, 61, 062313(2000)]. PACS number(s): 03.67.Hk, 03.65.Ud. The basic issue on the classification of mixed state entanglement at least on the level of bipartite systems solely depends upon whether there exist bound entangled states or not. The existence of PPT-bound (PPT means positive partial transpose) entangled states [1] and also the existence of NPT N−copy undistillable states [2, 3] for every positive integer N naturally indicates there may exist NPT-bound entangled states. In this work we are able to show the existence of NPT-bound entangled states with a simple assumption on Schmidt rank two states. We first briefly describe the issue and the importance of the problem. In recent years it is found that quantum entanglement is an useful resource in performing several tasks in quantum information theory and quantum communication [4]. Maximally entangled states shared between two parties are essential ingredients in this respect [5]. Now due to the interaction with environment, states are in practice found to be mixed. We revisit the criterion of multi-particle entanglement based on the overlaps of a given quantum state ρρρ with maximally entangled states. For a system of mmm particles, each with NNN distinct states, we prove that ρρρ is mmm-particle negative partial transpose (NPT) entangled, if there exists a maximally entangled state ∣MES>|{\rm MES}>∣MES>, such that >1/N>{1}/{N}>1/N. While this sufficiency condition is weaker than the Peres-Horodecki criterion in all cases, it applies to multi-particle systems, and becomes especially useful when the number of particles (mmm) is large. We also consider the converse of this criterion and illustrate its invalidity with counter examples.
