Abstract

We consider a class of quantum dissipative semigroup on a von-Neumann algebra which admits a normal invariant state. We investigate asymptotic behavior of the dissipative dynamics and their relation to that of the canonical Markov shift. In case the normal invariant state is also faithful, we also extend the notion of `quantum detailed balance' introduced by Frigerio-Gorini and prove that forward weak Markov process and backward weak Markov process are equivalent by an anti-unitary operator.

Entropy Production for Quantum Markov Semigroups

F. Fagnola, Rolando Rebolledo

An invariant state of a quantum Markov semigroup is an equilibrium state if it satisfies a quantum detailed balance condition. In this paper, we introduce a notion of entropy production for faithful normal invariant states of a quantum Markov semigroup on B(h) as a numerical index measuring "how much far" they are from equilibrium. The entropy production is defined as the derivative of the relative entropy of the one-step forward and backward evolution in analogy with the classical probabilistic concept. We prove an explicit trace formula expressing the entropy production in terms of the completely positive part of the generator of a norm continuous quantum Markov semigroup showing that it turns out to be zero if and only if a standard quantum detailed balance condition holds.

Invariant States for a Quantum Markov Semigroup Constructed from Quantum Bernoulli Noises

Jinshu Chen

Quantum Bernoulli noises are the family of annihilation and creation operators acting on Bernoulli functionals, which satisfy a canonical anti-commutation relation (CAR) in equal-time. In this paper, we consider a quantum Markov semigroup constructed from quantum Bernoulli noises. Among others, we show that the semigroup has infinitely many faithful invariant states that are diagonal, and satisfies the quantum detailed balance condition.

GENERATORS OF DETAILED BALANCE QUANTUM MARKOV SEMIGROUPS

Franco Fagnola, Veronica Umanità

For a quantum Markov semigroup [Formula: see text] on the algebra [Formula: see text] with a faithful invariant state ρ, we can define an adjoint [Formula: see text] with respect to the scalar product determined by ρ. In this paper, we solve the open problems of characterizing adjoints [Formula: see text] that are also a quantum Markov semigroup and satisfy the detailed balance condition in terms of the operators H, Lk in the Gorini–Kossakowski–Sudarshan–Lindblad representation [Formula: see text] of the generator of [Formula: see text]. We study the adjoint semigroup with respect to both scalar products 〈a, b〉 = tr (ρa*b) and 〈a, b〉 = tr (ρ1/2a*ρ1/2 b).

W-Entropy of quantum Markov semigroups in terms of quantum Bernoulli noises

Jinshu Chen, Jie Hao, Nana Yang

In this study, we first deal with the canonical anti-commutation relation algebra in which the Bernoulli creation and annihilation operators generate the structure of ultra hyperfinite C[Formula: see text]-algebra. This observation simplifies the construction of the minimal quantum Markov semigroup construct from quantum Bernoulli noises by taking a filter through the family gamma of finite subsets of the natural numbers. As a result, we obtain a Feller quantum Markov semigroup defined on the C[Formula: see text]-algebra, which in turn is extended to the entire algebra of bounded operators. Then, one condition for us to obtain a faithful normal invariant state of this semigroup is an equilibrium state (it satisfies the detailed balance conditions). Finally, we use the quantum Wasserstein distance to discuss the W-entropy rate of this invariant state.

Quantum Markov Semigroups

Mou-Hsiung Chang

In this chapter, we define and explore basic properties of a quantum Markov semigroup { I t , t ≥ 0} of linear maps on the C* -algebra or von Neumann algebra A that characterizes the quantum system. The quantum Markov semigroup (QMS) plays a key role in describing quantum Markov processes that are to be explored in the subsequent chapters. The concept of QMS extends the semigroup of probability transition operators { T t , t ≥ 0} for a classical Markov process to its noncommutative counterpart. Suppose the classical Markov process { X t , t ≥ 0} is defined on the complete filtered classical probability space (Ω, Ƒ, P ; {Ƒ t , t ≥ 0}) and with values in a measurable space (핏, B (X)). Recall that for each t ≥ 0, the probability transition operator T t : L ∞ (X, B (X)) → L ∞ (X, B (X)) by ( T t f )( X s ) = E x [ f ( X s + t ) | Ƒ s ] ∀ s , t ≥ 0. A semigroup of linear maps on the C* -algebra or von Neumann algebra A is said to be a quantum dynamical semigroup (QDS) if (i) I 0 = J (the identity operator on A ); (ii) I t I s = I t + s for all t , s ≥ 0; (iii) I t is completely positive for each t ≥ 0; and (iv) I t is σ weakly continuous on A , i.e., a ↦ tr ( ρI t ( a )) is continuous from A to ℂ for each ρ ∈ S ( A ) (the space of quantum states) and for each t ≥ 0. If in addition I t ( I ) = I , (respectively, I t ( I ) ≤ I ) for all t ≥ 0, then the QDS is said to be a quantum Makrov semigroup (QMS) (respectively, quantum sub-Markov semigroup).
