Quantum Jumps, EEQT and the Five Platonic Fractals

Abstract

It is shown that symmetric configurations of fuzzy spin direction detectors generate, through quantum jumps, IFS fractals on the sphere S^2. The IFS fractals can be also interpreted as resulting from applications of Lorentz boosts to the projective light cone.

Quantum fractals on n-spheres

Arkadiusz Jadczyk

Using the Clifford algebra formalism we extend the quantum jumps algorithm of the Event Enhanced Quantum Theory (EEQT) to convex state figures other than those stemming from convex hulls of com-plex projective spaces that form the basis for the standard quantum theory. We study quantum jumps on n-dimensional spheres, jumps that are induced by symmetric configurations of non-commuting state monitoring detectors. The detectors cause quantum jumps via geomet-rically induced conformal maps (Möbius transformations) and realize iterated function systems (IFS) with fractal attractors located on n-dimensional spheres. We also extend the formalism to mixed states, represented by “density matrices ” in the standard formalism, (the n-balls), but such an extension does not lead to new results, as there is a natural mechanism of purification of states. As a numerical illustration we study quantum fractals on the circle (one-dimensional sphere and pentagon), two–sphere (octahedron), and on three-dimensional sphere (hypercube-tesseract, 24 cell, 600 cell, and 120 cell). The attractor, and the invariant measure on the attractor, are approximated by the powers of the Markov operator. In the appendices we discuss the Hamilton’s “icossian calculus ” and its application to quaternionic realization of the binary icosahedral group that is at the basis of the 600 cell and its dual, the 120 cell. 1 1

Completely Mixing Quantum Open Systems and Quantum Fractals

Ph. Blanchard, Arkadiusz Jadczyk, R. Olkiewicz

Departing from classical concepts of ergodic theory, formulated in terms of probability densities, measures describing the mixing behavior and the loss of information in quantum open systems are proposed. As application we discuss the chaotic outcomes of continuous measurement processes in the EEQT framework. Simultaneous measurement of four noncommuting spin components is shown to lead to a chaotic jumps on the quantum spin sphere and to generate specific fractal images of a nonlinear iterated function system. 6 Fuzzy spheres from inequivalent coherent states quantizations

J. -p. Gazeau, Eric Huguet, J. Renaud +6 more

We present a new procedure which allows a coherent state (CS) quantization of any set with a measure. It is manifest through the replacement of classical observables by CS quantum observables, which acts on a Hilbert space of prescribed dimension $N$. The algebra of CS quantum observables has the finite dimension $N^2$. The application to the 2-sphere provides a family of inequivalent CS quantizations, based on the spin spherical harmonics (the CS quantization from usual spherical harmonics appears to give a trivial issue for the cartesian coordinates). We compare these CS quantizations to the usual (Madore) construction of the fuzzy sphere. The difference allows us to consider our procedures as the constructions of new type of fuzzy spheres. The very general character of our method suggests applications to construct fuzzy versions of a variety of sets.

Non-Hermitian Generalization of Bloch Sphere in Spacetime Algebra

Chih-Wei Wang

We establish a geometric generalization of the Bloch sphere for two-level quantum systems with non-Hermitian Hamiltonians using the Spacetime Algebra (STA) formulation. By lifting the state density operator from the even subalgebra to the full STA, we show that the state space expands from the unit 2-sphere to a future light cone. The non-unitary time evolution generated by a general non-Hermitian Hamiltonian corresponds to proper orthochronous Lorentz transformations on the null vectors. We classify the Hamiltonian dynamics into four distinct geometric classes: spatial rotations (corresponding to $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric systems), pure boosts (anti-$\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric systems), null rotations (exceptional points), and general mixtures. We also use this formulation to study several results from PT-symmetric quantum mechanics, including the topological features of the exceptional points.

How events come into being: EEQT, particle tracks, quantum chaos and tunnelling time

Ph. Blanchard, Arkadiusz Jadczyk, A. Ruschhaupt

We review Event Enhanced Quantum Theory (EEQT), discuss applications of EEQT to tunnelling time, and compare its quantitative predictions with other approaches, in particular with phase time and the Büttiker-Larmor approach. We discuss quantum chaos and quantum fractals resulting from simultaneous continuous monitoring of several non-commuting observables. In particular we show self-similar, nonlinear, iterated function system type, patterns arising from quantum jumps and from the associated Markov operator.
