Comments on some recently proposed experiments that should distinguish Bohmian mechanics from quantum mechanics

Abstract

Recently Ghose (quant-ph/0001024,quant-ph/0003037,quant-ph/0103126) and Golshani and Akhavan (quant-ph/0009040,quant-ph/0103100,quant-ph/0103101) claimed to have found experiments that should be able to distinguish between Standard Quantum Mechanics and Bohmian Mechanics. It is our aim to show that the claims made by Ghose, Golshani and Akhavan are unfounded.

Recently Golshani and Akhavan 2001 J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 34 5259 proposed an experiment that should be able to distinguish between standard quantum mechanics and Bohmian mechanics. It is our aim to show that the claims made by Golshani and Akhavan are unwarranted.

On compatibility of Bohmian mechanics with standard quantum mechanics

Hrvoje Nikolić

It is shown that the apparent incompatibility of Bohmian mechanics with standard quantum mechanics, found by Akhavan and Golshani quant-ph/0305020, is an artefact of the fact that the initial wavefunction they use, being proportional to a $δ$-function, is not a regular wavefunction.

Reply to Comment on Experimental realization of a first test of de Broglie–Bohm theory

G. Brida, E. Cagliero, Marco Genovese +1 more

We reply to Akhavan and Golshani's comment on our double-slit experiment addressed to test standard quantum mechanics versus de Broglie–Bohm theory. We show that their results, albeit representing a relevant contribution to the discussion on the realizability of a test of de Broglie–Bohm theory, do not allow us to draw any conclusion about our experiment since their wavefunction does not describe well the photon states produced by our set-up. On the other hand, we give arguments of why our experiment can be considered a good realization of the theoretical proposal of Ghose (1999 Foundations of Quantum Theory and Quantum Optics ed S M Roy), Ghose et al (2001 Phys. Lett. A 290 205) and Golshani and Akhavan ( 2001 J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 34 5259 ).
