Abstract

We propose a feasible scheme to create $n$-party ($n\geq 2$) polarization-entangled photon states in a controllable way. The scheme requires only single-photon sources, single-photon quantum non-demolition measurement (SP-QNDM) and simple linear optical elements, usually with high perfections. The SP-QNDM acts as a non-destructive projection measurement onto the wanted entangled states and filters out the unwanted terms. Our scheme in fact realizes entanglement of non-interacting photons; the interaction occurs only implicitly in the optical elements and SP-QNDM. We also briefly consider purification of mixed single-photon states within our scheme.

Linear optical implementation of a single-mode quantum filter and generation of multiphoton polarization entangled states

Xu‐Bo Zou, K. Pahlke, Wolfgang M. Mathis

We propose a scheme to implement a single-mode quantum filter, which selectively eliminates the one-photon state in a quantum state $\ensuremath{\alpha}|0〉+\ensuremath{\beta}|1〉+\ensuremath{\gamma}|2〉.$ The vacuum state and the two-photon state are transmitted without any change. This scheme requires single-photon sources, linear optical elements, and photon detectors. Furthermore, we demonstrate how this filter can be used to realize a two-qubit projective measurement and to generate multiphoton polarization entangled states.

Linear Optics Quantum Communication over Long Distances

Zeng‐Bing Chen, Huai-Xin Lu, Zhang, Yong-De

We propose a feasible scheme for teleporting an arbitrary polarization state or entanglement of photons by requiring only single-photon (SP) sources, simple linear optical elements and SP quantum non-demolition measurements. An unknown SP polarization state can be faithfully teleported either to a duplicate polarization state or to an entangled state. Our proposal can be used to implement long-distance quantum communication in a simple way. The scheme is within the reach of current technology and significantly simplifies the realistc implementation of long-distance high-fidelity quantum communication with photon qubits.

Demonstration of a scheme for the generation of “event-ready” entangled photon pairs from a single-photon source

Qiang Zhang, Xiao‐Hui Bao, Chao‐Yang Lu +4 more

We present a feasible and efficient scheme, and its proof-of-principle demonstration, of creating ``event-ready'' polarization-entangled photon pairs using only simple linear optical elements and single photons. The quality of entangled photon pairs produced in our experiment is confirmed by a strict violation of Bell's inequality. This scheme and the associated experimental techniques present a step toward linear optics quantum computation.

Generation of entangled photon states by using linear optical elements

Xu‐Bo Zou, K. Pahlke, Wolfgang M. Mathis

We present a scheme to generate the polarization-entangled two-photon state $1/\sqrt{2}(|H〉|V〉+|V〉|H〉),$ which is of much interest in the field of quantum information processing. Furthermore, we demonstrate the capability of this concept in respect of a generalization to entangle N-photon states for interferometry and lithography. This scheme requires single-photon sources, linear optical elements, and a multifold coincidence detection.

Generating a four-photon polarization-entangled cluster state

Xu‐Bo Zou, Wolfgang M. Mathis

We propose a scheme to generate a four-photon polarization-entangled cluster state by using only linear optical elements and four-photon coincidence detection. The scheme requires two single-photon states and one two-photon polarization entangled state as input resources. Then, we consider the realistic implementation of the scheme by using the spontaneous parametric down-conversion as photon resources. It is shown that under certain conditions, the four-photon polarization cluster state can be generated with a high fidelity, and the scheme is feasible by current experimental technology.

Perfect entanglement concentration of an arbitrary four-photon polarization entangled state via quantum nondemolition detectors

Meiyu Wang, Fengli Yan, Jingzhou Xu

Abstract We show how to concentrate an arbitrary four-photon polarization entangled state into a maximally entangled state based on some quantum nondemolition detectors. The entanglement concentration protocol (ECP) resorts to an ancillary single-photon resource and the conventional projection measurement on photons to assist the concentration, which makes it more economical. Our ECP involves weak cross-Kerr nonlinearities, X homodyne measurement and basic linear-optical elements, which make it feasible in the current experimental technology. Moreover, the ECP considers cyclic utilization to enhance a higher success probability. Thus, our scheme is meaningful in practical applications in quantum communication.
