Abstract

In this paper we analyse the canonical forms into which any pure three-qubit state can be cast. The minimal forms, i.e. the ones with the minimal number of product states built from local bases, are also presented and lead to a complete classification of pure three-qubit states. This classification is related to the values of the polynomial invariants under local unitary transformations by a one-to-one correspondence.

On local invariants of pure three-qubit states

Anthony Sudbery

We study invariants of three-qubit states under local unitary transformations, i.e. functions on the space of entanglement types, which is known to have dimension six. We show that there is no set of six algebraically independent polynomial invariants of degree ⩽ 6, and find such a set with maximum degree eight. We describe an intrinsic definition of a canonical state on each orbit, and discuss the (non-polynomial) invariants associated with it.

LU Invariants and Canonical Forms and SLOCC Classification of Pure 3-Qubit States

Di Yao-Min, Ya Cao

In this paper the entanglement of pure 3-qubit states is discussed. The local unitary (LU) polynomial invariants that are closely related to the canonical forms are constructed and the relations of the coefficients of the canonical forms are given. Then the stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) classification of the states are discussed on the basis of the canonical forms, and the symmetric canonical form of the states without 3-tangle is discussed. Finally, we give the relation between the LU polynomial invariants and SLOCC classification.

Schmidt decomposition and classification of three-quantum-bit states

A. Acín, Alexander A. Andrianov, Laura Costa +3 more

We prove for any pure three-quantum-bit state the existence of local bases which allow to build a set of five orthogonal product states in terms of which the state can be written in a unique form. This leads to a canonical form which generalizes the two-quantum-bit Schmidt decomposition. It is uniquely characterized by the five entanglement parameters. It leads to a complete classification of the three-quantum-bit states. It shows that the right outcome of an adequate local measurement always erases all entanglement between the other two parties.

Local unitary invariants of generic multiqubit states

Naihuan Jing, Shao-Ming Fei, Ming Li +2 more

We present a complete set of local unitary invariants for generic multiqubit systems which gives necessary and sufficient conditions for two states being local unitary equivalent. These invariants are canonical polynomial functions in terms of the generalized Bloch representation of the quantum states. In particular, we prove that there are at most 12 polynomial local unitary invariants for two-qubit states and at most 90 polynomials for three-qubit states. Comparison with Makhlin's 18 local unitary invariants is given for two-qubit systems.

Classification ofn-qubit states with minimum orbit dimension

David W. Lyons, Scott N. Walck

The group of local unitary transformations acts on the space of n-qubit pure states, decomposing it into orbits. In a previous paper we proved that a product of singlet states (together with an unentangled qubit for a system with an odd number of qubits) achieves the smallest possible orbit dimension, equal to 3n/2 for n even and (3n + 1)/2 for n odd, where n is the number of qubits. In this paper we show that any state with minimum orbit dimension must be of this form, and furthermore, such states are classified up to local unitary equivalence by the sets of pairs of qubits entangled in singlets.
