Abstract A degenerate parametric process and the complete upward generation of ordinary and extraordinary optical waves inside a periodically poled nonlinear crystal (PPNC) with quadratic nonlinearity are considered. A quantum theory is developed for describing statistical characteristics of the polarized states of light in a PPNC. It is found that the degree of polarization can be controlled by creating an imbalance in the intensity of modes at frequencies of ordinary and extraordinary optical waves (i.e., reducing the average number of photons in one and increasing it in the other).
The results of quantum analysis of the light generated by consecutive and simultaneous quasi-phase-matched (QPM) wave interactions in periodically poled nonlinear crystals (PPNCs) are presented. In the case of the consecutive interactions of waves with multiple frequencies ω, 2ω and 3ω, the parametric amplification at low-frequency pumping is investigated. Generation of the quadrature-squeezed light at frequencies ω and 3ω in the 2ω frequency pumping field, the photon statistics and correlation as well as the entanglement properties for photons produced at different frequencies are studied. In the case of simultaneous QPM spontaneous parametric down-conversion processes in single PPNC, the main attention is paid to obtaining the polarization-entangled states at the collinear geometry of the wave interaction.
We report the experimental demonstration of directly produced polarization squeezing at 1064 nm from a type I optical parametric amplifier (OPA) based on a periodically poled KTP crystal (PPKTP). The orthogonal polarization modes of the polarization squeezed state are both defined by the OPA cavity mode, and the birefringence induced by the PPKTP crystal is compensated by a second, but inactive, PPKTP crystal. Stokes parameter squeezing of 3.6 dB and anti squeezing of 9.4 dB is observed. (c) 2007 Optical Society of America.
Theoretical calculations on transmission of quantum states such as Schrödinger cat (SC) states are considered in a periodically poled nonlinear crystal (PPNC). Combinations of various initial states (SC, coherent (C),and vacuum (V)) of light waves at frequencies ωe and 3ωe at the input of a PPNC are studied. It is shown that the transmission and interference between superposition of macroscopically distinguishable states can be achieved by using a PPNC. Visualization and analyzes of transmission and interference processes are demonstrated with the help of reduced Wigner quasi-probability distribution functions of considered light waves.
