Abstract

The exact solution of the proton-neutron isoscalar-isovector (T=0,1) pairing Hamiltonian with nondegenerate single-particle orbits and equal pairing strengths is presented for the first time. The Hamiltonian is a particular case of a family of integrable SO(8) Richardson-Gaudin models. The exact solution of the T=0,1 pairing Hamiltonian is reduced to a problem of 4 sets of coupled nonlinear equations that determine the spectral parameters of the complete set of eigenstates. The microscopic structure of individual eigenstates is analyzed in terms of evolution of the spectral parameters in the complex plane for a system of A=80 nucleons. The spectroscopic trends of the exact solutions are discussed in terms of generalized rotations in isospace.

Exact Solution of the Isovector Neutron-Proton Pairing Hamiltonian

The complete exact solution of the T = 1 neutron-proton pairing Hamiltonian is presented in the context of the SO(5) Richardson-Gaudin model with nondegenerate single-particle levels and including isospin symmetry-breaking terms. The power of the method is illustrated with a numerical calculation for for 64Ge for a pf + g9/2 model space which is out of reach of modern shell-model codes.

Isovector Pairing within the so(5) Richardson-Gaudin Exactly Solvable Model

S. S. Dimitrova, J. Dukelsky, V. G. Gueorguiev +1 more

Properties of a nucleon system interacting via isovector proton-neutron pairing can be described within the so(5) generalized Richardson-Gaudin exactly-solvable model [1]. We present results for a system of 12 nucleon pairs within the full f{sub p} + g{sub 9/2} shell-model space. We discuss coupling constant dependence of the pair energies, total energy of the system, and the occupation numbers.

Effect of single-particle splitting in the exact wave function of the isovectorial pairing Hamiltonian

Sergio Lerma-Hernández

The structure of the exact wave function of the isovectorial pairing Hamiltonian with nondegenerate single-particle levels is discussed. The way that the single-particle splittings break the quartet condensate solution found for $N=Z$ nuclei in a single degenerate level is established. After a brief review of the exact solution, the structure of the wave function is analyzed and some particular cases are considered where a clear interpretation of the wave function emerges. An expression for the exact wave function in terms of the isospin triplet of pair creators is given. The ground-state wave function is analyzed as a function of pairing strength, for a system of four protons and four neutrons. For small and large values of the pairing strength a dominance of two-pair (quartets) scalar couplings is found, whereas for intermediate values enhancements of the nonscalar couplings are obtained. A correlation of these enhancements with the creation of Cooper-like pairs is observed.

EXACTLY SOLVABLE PROTON–NEUTRON PAIRING HAMILTONIANS AND QUARTET CORRELATIONS

J. Dukelsky, B. Errea, Sergio Lerma-Hernández +3 more

Exactly solvable models have played an important role in helping to elucidate the physics of strongly correlated systems. Recently, we have extended the Richardson-Gaudin (RG) models of SU(2) like particle pairing to higher rank algebras. In particular, we will discuss here the SO(8) RG model of proton-neutron pairing as a model of strong quartet correlations. The failure of proton-neutron BCS suggests that new approaches have to be developed to account for them.

Integrability and exact spectrum of a pairing model for nucleons

Jon Links, Huan-Qiang Zhou, M. D. Gould +1 more

A pairing model for nucleons, introduced by Richardson in 1966, which describes proton–neutron pairing as well as proton–proton and neutron–neutron pairing, is re-examined in the context of the quantum inverse scattering method. Specifically, this shows that the model is integrable by enabling the explicit construction of the conserved operators. We determine the eigenvalues of these operators in terms of the Bethe ansatz, which in turn leads to an expression for the energy eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian.

Exact solution of the Isovector-Isoscalar pairing interaction

B. Errea, Sergio Lerma-Hernández, Juan Antonio Caballero +4 more

A Richardson‐Gaudin exactly‐solvable model is presented for an isovector‐isoscalar pairing interaction. Exact results show the existence of quartet correlations at T = 0, that disappear at higher T where two condensates of identical particles coexist.
