Abstract

A Richardson‐Gaudin exactly‐solvable model is presented for an isovector‐isoscalar pairing interaction. Exact results show the existence of quartet correlations at T = 0, that disappear at higher T where two condensates of identical particles coexist.

Isovector Pairing within the so(5) Richardson-Gaudin Exactly Solvable Model

S. S. Dimitrova, J. Dukelsky, V. G. Gueorguiev +1 more

Properties of a nucleon system interacting via isovector proton-neutron pairing can be described within the so(5) generalized Richardson-Gaudin exactly-solvable model [1]. We present results for a system of 12 nucleon pairs within the full f{sub p} + g{sub 9/2} shell-model space. We discuss coupling constant dependence of the pair energies, total energy of the system, and the occupation numbers.

Exact Solution of the Isovector Neutron-Proton Pairing Hamiltonian

J. Dukelsky, V. G. Gueorguiev, P. Van Isacker +3 more

The complete exact solution of the T = 1 neutron-proton pairing Hamiltonian is presented in the context of the SO(5) Richardson-Gaudin model with nondegenerate single-particle levels and including isospin symmetry-breaking terms. The power of the method is illustrated with a numerical calculation for for 64Ge for a pf + g9/2 model space which is out of reach of modern shell-model codes.

Exact Solution of the Spin-Isospin Proton-Neutron Pairing Hamiltonian

Sergio Lerma-Hernández, B. Errea, J. Dukelsky +1 more

The exact solution of the proton-neutron isoscalar-isovector (T=0,1) pairing Hamiltonian with nondegenerate single-particle orbits and equal pairing strengths is presented for the first time. The Hamiltonian is a particular case of a family of integrable SO(8) Richardson-Gaudin models. The exact solution of the T=0,1 pairing Hamiltonian is reduced to a problem of 4 sets of coupled nonlinear equations that determine the spectral parameters of the complete set of eigenstates. The microscopic structure of individual eigenstates is analyzed in terms of evolution of the spectral parameters in the complex plane for a system of A=80 nucleons. The spectroscopic trends of the exact solutions are discussed in terms of generalized rotations in isospace.

Quartet condensation induced by the isovector pairing force

M Sambataro, Nicolae Sandulescu

Abstract The phenomenon of quartet condensation in the ground state of an isovector pairing Hamiltonian for an even–even N = Z system is investigated. For this purpose we follow the evolution of the ground state from an unperturbed regime up to a strongly interacting one in a formalism of collective pairs. These pairs are those resulting from the diagonalization of the pairing Hamiltonian in a space of two particles coupled to isospin T = 1. The ground state is found to rapidly evolve from a product of distinct T = 0 quartets, each one formed by two of the above pairs, to a condensate of identical quartets built only with the pair corresponding to the lowest energy. This finding establishes a link between the complicated structure of the exact ground state and the simple approximation scheme of the quartet condensation model. The mechanism at the basis of this quartet condensation turns out to be the same which is responsible for the development of a pair condensate in the ground state of a like-particle pairing Hamiltonian.

EXACTLY SOLVABLE PROTON–NEUTRON PAIRING HAMILTONIANS AND QUARTET CORRELATIONS

J. Dukelsky, B. Errea, Sergio Lerma-Hernández +3 more

Exactly solvable models have played an important role in helping to elucidate the physics of strongly correlated systems. Recently, we have extended the Richardson-Gaudin (RG) models of SU(2) like particle pairing to higher rank algebras. In particular, we will discuss here the SO(8) RG model of proton-neutron pairing as a model of strong quartet correlations. The failure of proton-neutron BCS suggests that new approaches have to be developed to account for them.

EXACTLY SOLVABLE PAIRING HAMILTONIANS

J. Dukelsky, B. Errea, Sergio Lerma-Hernández +1 more

We review the development of the microscopic BCS theory of superconductivity and the exact solution of the pairing Hamiltonian given by Richardson in 1963. We then introduce the generalized Richardson-Gaudin exactly-solvable pairing models for SU(2) (pairing between like particles), SO(5) ( T =1 pairing) and SO(8) ( T =0,1 pairing) algebras.
