Abstract

We find one-, two-, and three-component solitons of the polar and ferromagnetic (FM) types in the general (nonintegrable) model of a spinor (three-component) model of the Bose-Einstein condensate, based on a system of three nonlinearly coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equations. The stability of the solitons is studied by means of direct simulations and, in a part, analytically, using linearized equations for small perturbations. Global stability of the solitons is considered by means of an energy comparison. As a result, ground-state and metastable soliton states of the FM and polar types are identified. For the special integrable version of the model, we develop the Darboux transformation (DT). As an application of the DT, analytical solutions are obtained that display full nonlinear evolution of the modulational instability of a continuous-wave state seeded by a small spatially periodic perturbation. Additionally, by dint of direct simulations, we demonstrate that solitons of both the polar and FM types, found in the integrable system, are structurally stable; i.e., they are robust under random changes of the relevant nonlinear coefficient in time.

Localized nonlinear waves and dynamical stability in spinor Bose–Einstein condensates with time–space modulation

Yuqin Yao, Wei Han, Ji Li +1 more

Abstract Nonlinearity is one of the most remarkable characteristics of Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs). Much work has been done on one- and two-component BECs with time- or space-modulated nonlinearities, while there is little work on spinor BECs with space–time-modulated nonlinearities. In the present paper we investigate localized nonlinear waves and dynamical stability in spinor Bose–Einstein condensates with nonlinearities dependent on time and space. We solve the three coupled Gross–Pitaevskii equations by similarity transformation and obtain two families of exact matter wave solutions in terms of Jacobi elliptic functions and the Mathieu equation. The localized states of the spinor matter wave describe the dynamics of vector breathing solitons, moving breathing solitons, quasi-breathing solitons and resonant solitons. The results show that one-order vector breathing solitons, quasi-breathing solitons, resonant solitons and the moving breathing solitons ψ ±1 are all stable, but the moving breathing soliton ψ 0 is unstable. We also present the experimental parameters to realize these phenomena in future experiments.

Solitons in spin-orbit-coupled spin-2 spinor Bose-Einstein condensates

Nian-Sheng Wan, Yue Li, Ju-Kui Xue

We investigate the different types of matter-wave solitons in spin-orbit-coupled spin-2 spinor Bose-Einstein condensates. Using mean-field theory and adopting the multiscale perturbation method, the original five-component Gross-Pitaevskii spin-orbit-coupled spin-2 spinor Bose-Einstein condensate model can be reduced to a single effective nonlinear Schrödinger equation, which allows us to find analytical soliton solutions of this system. In this way, for different regimes of the spin-orbit coupling, Raman coupling, and interatomic interactions, we find approximate bright and dark soliton solutions. Particularly, the type of solitons depends on the dispersion properties of the system. When the lowest-energy band has a single-well structure, we find there only exist positive mass bright or dark solitons due to the dispersion coefficient of effective nonlinear Shrödinger equation always positive. However, when the lowest-energy band has a double-well structure, there will appear positive (negative) mass bright or dark solitons because the sign of the dispersion coefficient can be positive (negative) under different momentum. We employ direct numerical simulation of the original five-component Gross-Pitaevskii equations to confirm the analytical results.

Wave Propagations in theF=1 Spinor Bose–Einstein Condensates

Miki Wadati, Naoshi Tsuchida

Propagations of nonlinear waves in the quasi-one dimensional F =1 spinor Bose–Einstein condensates are studied. The three-component macroscopic wavefunction obeys a generalized Gross–Pitaevskii equation (nonlinear Schrödinger equation). Plane wave and solitary wave solutions are obtained explicitly. It is shown that the analysis of the plane waves leads to a classification of solitary waves, which are known as polar solitons and ferromagnetic solitons.

Three-component soliton states in spinor F = 1 Bose–Einstein condensates with P T -symmetric generalized Scarf-II potentials

Zhang-Lei Han, Jun-Yi Lao, Jia-Rui Zhang +1 more

Abstract Introducing P T -symmetric generalized Scarf-II potentials into the three-coupled nonlinear Gross–Pitaevskii equations offers a new way to seek stable soliton states in quasi-one-dimensional spin-1 Bose–Einstein condensates. In scenarios where the spin-independent parameter c 0 and the spin-dependent parameter c 2 vary, we use both analytical and numerical methods to investigate the three-coupled nonlinear Gross–Pitaevskii equations with P T -symmetric generalized Scarf-II potentials. We obtain analytical soliton states and find that simply modulating c 2 may change the analytical soliton states from unstable to stable. Additionally, we obtain numerically stable double-hump soliton states propagating in the form of periodic oscillations, exhibiting distinct behavior in energy exchange. For further investigation, we discuss the interaction of numerical double-hump solitons with Gaussian solitons and observe the transfer of energy among the three components. These findings may contribute to a deeper understanding of solitons in Bose–Einstein condensates with P T -symmetric potentials and may hold significance for both theoretical understanding and experimental design in related physics experiments.

Three-component Gross-Pitaevskii equations in the spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate: Spin-rotation symmetry, matter-wave solutions, and dynamics

Zichao Wen, Zhenya Yan

We report new matter-wave solutions of the one-dimensional spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate system by combining global spin-rotation states and similarity transformation. Dynamical behaviors of non-stationary global spin-rotation states derived from the SU(2) spin-rotation symmetry are discussed, which exhibit temporal periodicity. We derive generalized bright-dark mixed solitons and new rogue wave solutions and reveal the relations between Euler angles in spin-rotation symmetry and parameters in ferromagnetic and polar solitons. In the modulated spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate system, new solutions are derived and graphically illustrated for different types of modulations. Moreover, numerical simulations are performed to investigate the stability of some obtained solutions for chosen parameters.

Perturbation theory for bright spinor Bose-Einstein condensate solitons

Evgeny V. Doktorov, Jiandong Wang, Jianke Yang

We develop a perturbation theory for bright solitons of the $F=1$ integrable spinor Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC) model. The formalism is based on using the Riemann-Hilbert problem and provides the means to analytically calculate evolution of the soliton parameters. Both rank-one and rank-two soliton solutions of the model are obtained. We prove equivalence of the rank-one soliton and the ferromagnetic rank-two soliton. Taking into account a splitting of a perturbed polar rank-two soliton into two ferromagnetic solitons, it is sufficient to elaborate a perturbation theory for the rank-one solitons only. Treating a small deviation from the integrability condition as a perturbation, we describe the spinor BEC soliton dynamics in the adiabatic approximation. It is shown that the soliton is quite robust against such a perturbation and preserves its velocity, amplitude, and population of different spin components, only the soliton frequency acquires a small shift. Results of numerical simulations agree well with the analytical predictions, demonstrating only slight soliton profile deformation.
