Quantum vortices in Bose–Einstein condensates

Paulsamy Muruganandam, Ramaswamy Radha

Chapter 10 explores the dynamics of quantum vortices in Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs), covering single vortex dynamics, vortex lattices, and their behavior in Thomas–Fermi and lowest Landau level regimes. The vortex stability via Bogoliubov equations is addressed. The dynamics of vortices in dipolar BECs and vortex formation through merging condensates are also looked into.

Quantum state portrayal of a Bose condensed gas

J. Rogel-Salazar, G.H.C. New, Seok Jin Choi +1 more

Summary form only given. With the realisation of Bose-Einstein condensation in dilute gases, it has been possible to study the dynamics of quantum fields at finite temperatures. The Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GPE) has proved to be a very useful tool for describing Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) and has shown very good agreement with experimental results at low temperatures. In the present paper we apply the mean-field approximation to describe the quantum state of a Bose-Einstein condensate, using a phase-space representation to visualise such a state.

Collisionally inhomogenous Bose–Einstein condensates

Paulsamy Muruganandam, Ramaswamy Radha

In chapter 9, the dynamics of collisionally inhomogenous Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs), focusing on Faraday and resonant waves in scalar and binary condensates is investigated. The dynamics of stable vortices arising out of spatially inhomogenous interactions in attractive BECs is analyzed. Further, the impact of cubic–quintic–septimal nonlinearities arising out of collisionally inhomogenous interactions on BECs is also examined.
