Quantum Dynamics for the Control of Atomic State by a Quantized Optical Ring Cavity

Abstract

A generalized approach of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation is developed to analytically deal with the influence exercised by the spatial motion of atom's mass-center on a two-level atom in an optical ring cavity with a quantized single-mode electromagnetic field. The explicit expressions of tunneling rate are obtained for various cases, such as that with initial coherent state and thermal equilibrium state at finite temperature. Therefore, the studies for Doppler and recoil effects of the spatial motion on the scheme controlling atomic tunneling should be reconsidered in terms of the initial momentum of atom's mass center.

Effects of a Moving Mass Centre on Atomic Dynamics in Locally Inhomogeneous Quantized Cavity Field

Xiaoguang Wang, Chang-Pu Sun

By invoking an exactly solvable model as the generalization of the Jaynes-Cummings model, the influence of spatial motion of atomic centre on the dynamics of a single-mode cavity-two-level atom system are studied for various initial conditions. These investigations show that the Doppler effect exercised by the motion of atom in a locally inhomogeneous cavity field can lead to the phenomenon of oscillation collapse and revival in the transition probability and the atomic population inversion.

Dynamics of Two-Level Atom with Moving Mass Center Considering the Multiphoton Transitions

Yi Xue-Xi

We study the effect of moving mass center on atomic dynamics for various initial conditions, and the two-level atom coupled locally in inhomogeneous cavity to a near-resonant single-mode quantized field and the atomic levels are coupled by the multiphoton transitions. Our study shows that, the Doppler effect exercised by the motion of atom can lead to the modified phenomenon of oscillation collapse and revival in the atomic population inversion at the beginning of evolution.

Moving atom-field interaction: Quantum motional decoherence and relaxation

Sanjiv Shresta, B. L. Hu

The reduced dynamics of an atomic qubit coupled both to its own quantized center of mass motion through the spatial mode functions of the electromagnetic field, as well as the vacuum modes, is calculated in the influence functional formalism. The formalism chosen can describe the entangled non-Markovian evolution of the system with a full account of the coherent back-action of the environment on the qubit. We find a slight increase in the decoherence due to the quantized center of mass motion and give a condition on the mass and qubit resonant frequency for which the effect is important. In optically resonant alkali-metal atom systems, we find the effect to be negligibly small. The framework presented here can nevertheless be used for general considerations of the coherent evolution of qubits in moving atoms in an electromagnetic field.

Effect of moving mass-center and Stark shift on atomic dynamics in ideal ring cavity

X. X. Yi

The effect of moving mass center and Stark shift on atomic dynamics for various initial conditions is studied by the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model. Our investigations show that, the Doppler effect exercised by the motion of atomic mass-center can lead to the modified phenomenon of oscillation collapse and revival in the transition probability, in the presence of the Stark shift, the period of the oscillation is shorter than that in its absence.

Effect of Induced Gauge Field in Jaynes–Cummings Atom with Space-Dependent Coupling

En-Ke Tian, Chang-Pu Sun

The effect of the motion of mass center of a two-level atom on its transition in a quantized radiation field is studied in this paper by generalizing the Jaynes–Cummings model to include the coupling depending on space degrees of freedom. As an additional geometrical phase—Berry's phase in the oscillation, the effect of the induced gauge field resulting from the Born–Oppenheimer (BO) approximation explicitly exists in the transition probability between the up and down states of atomic quasispin. It is shown that when the atom's kinetic energy is small enough that the BO adiabatic approximation holds for the case with small atom's momentum or large detuning, the adiabatically approximate solutions are applicable and it is possible to localize an atom in the cavity.

Algebraic Structure and Analytic Solutions of a Moving V-Type Three-Level Atom Interacting with a Two-Mode Cavity Field

Cuiling Zhang, Rui Dang, Jiali Zhang

In the framework of algebraic dynamics, the dynamics of a V-type three-level atom interacting with a two-mode of the quantized cavity field is considered with atomic center-of-mass motion included. The general analytical expressions for the linearized Hamiltonian and the reduced density operator are derived, which can be used to calculate the expectation values of any system operators. As an illustration, analytical expressions for the optical forces are obtained.
