Exactly Solvable Two-Dimensional Complex Model with Real Spectrum

Abstract

Supersymmetrical intertwining relations of second order in derivatives allow to construct a two-dimensional quantum model with complex potential, for which {\it all} energy levels and bound state wave functions are obtained analytically. This model {\it is not amenable} to separation of variables, and it can be considered as a specific complexified version of generalized two-dimensional Morse model with additional $\sinh^{-2}$ term. The energy spectrum of the model is proved to be purely real. To our knowledge, this is a rather rare example of a nontrivial exactly solvable model in two dimensions. The symmetry operator is found, the biorthogonal basis is described, and the pseudo-Hermiticity of the model is demonstrated. The obtained wave functions are found to be common eigenfunctions both of the Hamiltonian and of the symmetry operator.

Exactly solvable nonseparable and nondiagonalizable two-dimensional model with quadratic complex interaction

F. Cannata, M. V. Ioffe, D. N. Nishnianidze

We study a quantum model with nonisotropic two-dimensional oscillator potential but with additional quadratic interaction x1x2 with imaginary coupling constant. It is shown that for a specific connection between coupling constant and oscillator frequencies, the model is not amenable to a conventional separation of variables. The property of shape invariance allows to find analytically all eigenfunctions and the spectrum is found to be equidistant. It is shown that the Hamiltonian is nondiagonalizable, and the resolution of the identity must include also the corresponding associated functions. These functions are constructed explicitly, and their properties are investigated. The problem of R-separation of variables in two-dimensional systems is discussed.

$\mathcal{PT}$ Symmetric Hamiltonian Model and Exactly Solvable Potentials

Özlem Yeşiltaş

Searching for non-Hermitian (parity-time)$\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric Hamiltonians \cite{bender} with real spectra has been acquiring much interest for fourteen years. In this article, we have introduced a $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetric non-Hermitian Hamiltonian model which is given as $\hat{\mathcal{H}}=ω(\hat{b}^\dagger\hat{b}+\frac{1}{2})+ α(\hat{b}^{2}-(\hat{b}^\dagger)^{2})$ where $ω$ and $α$ are real constants, $\hat{b}$ and $\hat{b^\dagger}$ are first order differential operators. Moreover, Pseudo-Hermiticity that is a generalization of $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry has been attracting a growing interest \cite{mos}. Because the Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}$ is pseudo-Hermitian, we have obtained the Hermitian equivalent of $\mathcal{H}$ which is in Sturm- Liouville form leads to exactly solvable potential models which are effective screened potential and hyperbolic Rosen-Morse II potential. $\mathcal{H}$ is called pseudo-Hermitian, if there exists a Hermitian and invertible operator $η$ satisfying $\mathcal{H^\dagger}=η\mathcal{H} η^{-1}$. For the Hermitian Hamiltonian $h$, one can write $h=ρ\mathcal{H} ρ^{-1}$ where $ρ=\sqrtη$ is unitary. Using this $ρ$ we have obtained a physical Hamiltonian $h$ for each case. Then, the Schrödinger equation is solved exactly using Shape Invariance method of Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics \cite{susy1}. Mapping function $ρ$ is obtained for each potential case.

SUSY QUANTUM MECHANICS WITH COMPLEX SUPERPOTENTIALS AND REAL ENERGY SPECTRA

Alexander A. Andrianov, M. V. Ioffe, F. Cannata +1 more

We extend the standard intertwining relations used in supersymmetrical (SUSY) quantum mechanics which involve real superpotentials to complex superpotentials. This allows us to deal with a large class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians and to study in general the isospectrality between complex potentials. In very specific cases we can construct in a natural way "quasicomplex" potentials which we define as complex potentials having a global property so as to lead to a Hamiltonian with real spectrum. We also obtained a class of complex transparent potentials whose Hamiltonian can be intertwined to a free Hamiltonian. We provide a variety of examples both for the radial problem (half axis) and for the standard one-dimensional problem (the whole axis), including remarks concerning scattering problems.

Nontrivial Exactly Solvable Potentials with Linear Equations of Motion

Ching‐Teh Li

Based on an equations-of-motion method in the framework of Heisenberg's matrix mechanics, we investigate the conditions under which a one-dimensional quantum mechanical system becomes exactly solvable. By linearizing the equation of motion which is a double-commutation relation of some appropriately chosen function of the position operator with the Hamiltonian, we obtained a set of nontrivial exactly solvable potentials in one dimension. These potentials not only can be solved analytically in closed forms but also contain both the Morse potential and the Poschl-Teller potential as their limiting cases. They may thus be valuable for some potential model calculations as well as for testing various approximation schemes. We also examine these potentials in the framework of supersymmetric quantum mechanics, which is particularly useful for studying exactly solvable potentials.

PT-SYMMETRIC NONPOLYNOMIAL OSCILLATORS AND HYPERBOLIC POTENTIAL WITH TWO KNOWN REAL EIGENVALUES IN A SUSY FRAMEWORK

Bijan Kumar Bagchi, C. Quesne

Extending the supersymmetric method proposed by Tkachuk to the complex domain, we obtain general expressions for superpotentials allowing generation of quasi-exactly solvable PT-symmetric potentials with two known real eigenvalues (the ground state and first-excited state energies). We construct examples, namely those of complexified nonpolynomial oscillators and of a complexified hyperbolic potential, to demonstrate how our scheme works in practice. For the former we provide a connection with the sl(2) method, illustrating the comparative advantages of the supersymmetric one.
