Abstract

We extend the standard intertwining relations used in supersymmetrical (SUSY) quantum mechanics which involve real superpotentials to complex superpotentials. This allows us to deal with a large class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians and to study in general the isospectrality between complex potentials. In very specific cases we can construct in a natural way "quasicomplex" potentials which we define as complex potentials having a global property so as to lead to a Hamiltonian with real spectrum. We also obtained a class of complex transparent potentials whose Hamiltonian can be intertwined to a free Hamiltonian. We provide a variety of examples both for the radial problem (half axis) and for the standard one-dimensional problem (the whole axis), including remarks concerning scattering problems.

New supersymmetry-generated complex potentials with real spectra

Óscar Rosas-Ortiz, Octavio Castaños, Dieter Schuch

A new form to construct complex superpotentials that produce real energy spectra in supersymmetric quantum mechanics is presented. This is based on the relation between the nonlinear Ermakov equation and a second order differential equation of the Schrödinger type. The superpotentials so constructed are characterized by the Ermakov parameters in such a way that they are always complex-valued and lead to non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with real spectra, whose eigenfunctions form a bi-orthogonal system. As applications we present new complex supersymmetric partners of the free particle that are P T -symmetric and can be either periodic or regular (of the Pöschl–Teller form). A new family of complex oscillators with real frequencies that have the energies of the harmonic oscillator plus an additional real eigenvalue is introduced.

Features of Complex Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics

Aishwarya Parthasarathi

The study of the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian systems within the framework of Supersymmetric Quantum mechanics (SUSY QM) has been carried out in literature in the last decade. Most of these potentials are either PT Symmetric or quasi-Hermitian in nature. But no formulation is advanced in literature to the study of general complex potentials within its framework. In this paper, using the complex phase space approach, we carry out the complexification of Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics to enable the study of any general non-Hermitian Hamiltonian system within its framework. The commutation relations among its operators are enumerated and the underlying symmetry is discussed. The eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the real and imaginary parts of superpartner Hamiltonians are also investigated.

Complex phase space formulation of supersymmetric quantum mechanics: analysis of shape-invariant potentials

Aishwarya Parthasarathi, Dayanand Parashar, R. S. Kaushal

With a view to increasing the scope of applications of supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSY QM), we formulate the same in a complex phase space. Within this framework, the concept of shape invariance is reinvestigated and an insight into the eigenvalue spectra of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians is sought. The results are applied to a variety of potentials. We claim that the shape invariance for these potentials in the complex phase space can be retrieved in terms of the prescriptions already proposed in the conventional SUSY QM, in that the transformation of potential parameters takes the form of a reflection in the parameter space. Interestingly, some of these features turn out to be the generalization of the concept of quasi-parity used recently in the context of SUSY QM of PT-symmetric potentials. Further, a correspondence of the present approach with other complex formulations of SUSY QM and also in two real dimensions is demonstrated.

Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics: The Duality of Two Elementary Models

Atlas Nesimi Çelik

This undergraduate thesis contains one dimensional introductory treatment of Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics (SUSY QM). The factorisation method is used to obtain Partner Hamiltonians, and the notions of partner potentials and superpotential are introduced. It demonstrated how energy spectra and eigenfunctions of partner potentials can be correlated for the cases of unbroken and broken supersymmetry. Generalisations of these cases attributed to Sets of Hamiltonians and shape invariant potentials are introduced. The devel oped formalisation is used to obtain energy eigenfunctions and spectra of partner potentials of some well-known quantum systems, namely the Infinite Square Well and the Free Particle. In these systems, the partner potentials are trigonometric and hyperbolic functions, respectively. A comparison of these two physically distinct but mathematically related partner potentials is provided. A new philosophical interpretation of SUSY QM is introduced, with an ontological discussion of supersymmetric notions and SUSY QM. The current observation problem of SUSY is discussed, and on that basis, two opposing arguments are presented. The method of Falsification by Karl Popper is briefly introduced, and an argument is produced regarding its application to SUSY.

Complex Isospectral Deformations of Conventional Shape-Invariant Superpotentials

Taha Koohrokhi, Abdolmajid Izadpanah

All additive shape-invariant superpotentials in nonrelativistic quantum mechanics can be classified into two categories: those that do not explicitly depend on ℏ and those that do. The latter category, known as the conventional superpotentials, forms a complete family. It has been demonstrated that the Schrödinger equation admits exact analytical solutions for this family, highlighting their significance in quantum mechanics due to this and other intriguing properties. This paper presents a mechanism for generalizing these superpotentials to the complex domain. The resulting complex non-Hermitian Hamiltonians possess real energy eigenvalues and are isospectral with their real counterparts..

PT-SYMMETRIC NONPOLYNOMIAL OSCILLATORS AND HYPERBOLIC POTENTIAL WITH TWO KNOWN REAL EIGENVALUES IN A SUSY FRAMEWORK

Bijan Kumar Bagchi, C. Quesne

Extending the supersymmetric method proposed by Tkachuk to the complex domain, we obtain general expressions for superpotentials allowing generation of quasi-exactly solvable PT-symmetric potentials with two known real eigenvalues (the ground state and first-excited state energies). We construct examples, namely those of complexified nonpolynomial oscillators and of a complexified hyperbolic potential, to demonstrate how our scheme works in practice. For the former we provide a connection with the sl(2) method, illustrating the comparative advantages of the supersymmetric one.
