QUARTIC ANHARMONIC MANY-BODY OSCILLATOR

Abstract

Two quantum quartic anharmonic many-body oscillators are introduced. One of them is the celebrated Calogero model (rational $A_n$ model) modified by quartic anharmonic two-body interactions which support the same symmetry as the Calogero model. Another model is the three-body Wolfes model (rational $G_2$ model) with quartic anharmonic interaction added which has the same symmetry as the Wolfes model. Both models are studied in the framework of algebraic perturbation theory and by the variational method.

Paths to optimization in the multistate Rayleigh-Ritz variational method: Applications to the double-well quantum anharmonic oscillator

R. F. Bishop, M. F. Flynn, M. C. Boscá +1 more

Both single-well and multiwell one-dimensional anharmonic oscillators have provided an extremely fruitful testing ground for various modern techniques of microscopic quantum many-body theory and quantum field theory. They have served both as (0+1)-dimensional field-theory models of their important counterparts in a higher number of dimensions, and as algebraically simple yet highly nontrivial problems on which various approximation or truncation schemes could be tested to very high orders. Such techniques have included perturbation theory and its many possible resummation schemes, and the coupled-cluster method. In the present paper the spotlight is focused on variational methods, and we concentrate on their application to the particularly demanding double-well quartic anharmonic oscillator. We examine in detail both single-state and multistate variational calculations based on either orthogonal (uncorrelated) or nonorthogonal (correlated) basis functions. Particular attention is paid to the question of the sensitivity and accuracy of the results with respect to any nonlinear parameters that characterize the basis states. Practical schemes are suggested for their choice and are shown to be capable of very high accuracy. Use of this simple model also allows detailed comparisons to be made with other techniques of a perturbative or perturbative-variational hybrid character.

A PERTURBATIVE TREATMENT OF A GENERALIZED $\mathcal{PT}$-SYMMETRIC QUARTIC ANHARMONIC OSCILLATOR

A. Banerjee

We examine a generalized [Formula: see text]-symmetric quartic anharmonic oscillator model to determine the various physical variables perturbatively in powers of a small quantity ε. We make use of the Bender–Dunne operator basis elements and exploit the properties of the totally symmetric operator Tm,n.

An approach to quantum anharmonic oscillators via Lie algebra

Mojtaba Jafarpour, Davood Afshar

We present a new Lie algebraic method to study the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of quantum anharmonic oscillators. We consider the Hamiltonians for the simple harmonic and anharmonic oscillator as the two generators of a Lie algebra, whose other generators may be found exactly or up to any order of the parameter involved. Speciflcally, the closed commutator algebra for the quartic anharmonic oscillator is established in a perturbation sense. An element of this Lie group, turning out to be the four-photon operator, transforms the quartic anharmonic oscillator Hamiltonian to the harmonic one in a perturbation sense; thus, facilitating the calculation of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the former.

A family of quasi-solvable quantum many-body systems

Toshiaki Tanaka

We construct a family of quasi-solvable quantum many-body systems by an algebraic method. The models contain up to two-body interactions and have permutation symmetry. We classify these models under the consideration of invariance property. It turns out that this family includes the rational, hyperbolic (trigonometric) and elliptic Inozemtsev models as particular cases.

An approach to the study of quantum systems

F. T. Hioe

A perturbation method for quantum mechanical problems is presented in which the successive terms are obtained by algebraic recurrence relations without the use of any diagrams. Two examples, one an anharmonic oscillator with quartic self-interaction, and one a spin with quadratic self-interaction, are given to illustrate the use of this recurrence relation perturbation method.

Investigating Single Quantum Anharmonic Oscillator with Perturbation Theory

Büşra Adalı, Ferhat Nutku

In this article, for pedagogical purposes we have discussed the application of nondegenerate perturbation theory up to the third order to compute energy eigenvalues and wave functions for the quantum anharmonic oscillator. Energy levels of a single quartic oscillator for 𝜆 values in range of 0.1-1 are given. Perturbed and non-perturbed wave functions of the levels up to the fourth excited level are compared. Ground, first and second excited energy levels are also calculated by applying finite differences method and, results are compared with the ones obtained via perturbation theory. It is found that perturbation theory gives comparable results only for a small 𝜆 parameter and for the ground state. The quartic term in the Hamiltonian of the anharmonic oscillator leads to a more effective confinement of the particle which is deduced from the plots of wavefunctions and probability distributions. Meanwhile, the number of zero crossing nodes of the wavefunctions increases as the energy level increases, which is an expected result for both the harmonic and anharmonic oscillator.
