Anyon wave equations and the noncommutative plane

Abstract

The “Jackiw–Nair” nonrelativistic limit of the relativistic anyon equations provides us with infinite-component wave equations of the Dirac–Majorana–Lévy-Leblond type for the “exotic” particle, associated with the two-fold central extension of the planar Galilei group. An infinite dimensional representation of the Galilei group is found. The velocity operator is studied, and the observable coordinates describing a noncommutative plane are identified.

The exotic Galilei group and

Christian Duval, Parc de Grandmont

Taking advantage of the two-parameter central extension of the planar Galilei group, we construct a non relativistic particle model in the plane. Owing to the extra structure, the coordinates do not commute. Our model can be viewed as the non-relativistic counterpart of the relativistic anyon considered before by Jackiw and Nair. For a particle moving in a magnetic field perpendicular to the plane, the two parameters combine with the magnetic field to provide an effective mass. For vanishing effective mass the phase space admits a two-dimensional reduction, which represents the condensation to collective “Hall” motions, and justifies the rule called “Peierls substitution”. Quantization yields the wave functions proposed by Laughlin to describe the Fractional Quantum Hall Effect.

Uncertainty relations for the relativistic Jackiw-Nair anyon: A first-principles derivation

Joydeep Majhi, Subir Ghosh

Abstract In this paper we have explicitly computed the position-position and position-momentum (Heisenberg) uncertainty relations for the model of relativistic particles with arbitrary spin, proposed by Jackiw and Nair (J ackiw R. and N air V. P. Phys. Rev. D , 43 (1991) 1933) as a model for anyon, in a purely quantum mechanical framework. This supports (via Schwarz inequality) the conjecture that anyons live in a 2-dimensional non-commutative space. We have computed the non-trivial uncertainty relation between anyon coordinates, , using the recently constructed anyon wave function (M ajhi J. et al. , Phys. Rev. Lett. , 123 (2019) 164801), in the framework of B ialynicki -B irula I. and B ialynicka -B irula Z., New J. Phys. , 21 (2019) 07306. We also compute the Heisenberg (position-momentum) uncertainty relation for anyons. Lastly we show that the identical formalism when applied to electrons, yield a trivial position uncertainty relation, consistent with their living in a 3-dimensional commutative space.

Noncommutative Quantum Mechanics based on Representations of Exotic Galilei Group

R. G. G. Amorim, S. C. Ulhoa

Using elements of symmetry, we constructed the Noncommutative Schrödinger Equation from a representation of Exotic Galilei Group. As a consequence, we derive the Ehrenfest theorem using noncommutative coordinates. We also have showed others features of quantum mechanics in such a manifold. As an important result, we find out that a linear potential in the noncommutative Schrödinger equation is completely analogous to the ordinary case. We also worked with harmonic and anharmonic oscillators, giving corrections in the energy for each one.

Relativistic and nonrelativistic anyons are described in a unified formalism by means of the coadjoint orbits of the symmetry groups in the free case as well as when there is an interaction with a constant electromagnetic field. To deal with interactions we introduce the extended Poincaré and Galilei Maxwell groups. 1

Fundamental dynamical equations for spinor wave functions. I. Levy-Leblond and Schrodinger equations

R. Huegele, Z. E. Musielak, John L. Fry

A search for fundamental (Galilean invariant) dynamical equations for two and four-component spinor wave functions is conducted in Galilean space-time. A dynamical equation is considered as fundamental if it is invariant under the symmetry operators of the group of the Galilei metric and if its state functions transform like the irreducible representations of the group of the metric. It is shown that there are no Galilean invariant equations for two-component spinor wave functions. A method to derive the Lévy-Leblond equation for a four-component spinor wave function is presented. It is formally proved that the Lévy-Leblond and Schrödinger equations are the only Galilean invariant four-component spinor equations that can be obtained with the Schrödinger phase factor. Physical implications of the obtained results and their relationships to the Pauli-Schrödinger equation are discussed.
